“All I like is having ice cream with my friends.” That drives home the point - ice cream and friends are inextricably linked in Roxas’s mind. Probably because he can’t remember emotions, so he substitutes “emotions” with events or objects. Ex. Kingdom Hearts = mission accomplished, or seashells = worry/uncertainty, or Saix appearing out of nowhere = I’m in trouble. It’s a nice little feature that is probably hard to express, because none of us can relate to having no emotion and no memory of emotion. It makes it more meaningful that Square went ahead and tried to replicate it anyway.

I really like Roxas's idea of ice cream and friendship. The Nobodies in KH remind me of the Androids in Nier: Automata and the Gems in Houseki no Kuni. All of them are non-humans with superhuman abilities and yet at the end of the day they enjoy themselves in really human ways like eat ice cream, collecting seashells, picking flowers, and all of them still suffer from universal existential dread.

6:40 that's why I don't like it when people make fun of the "who am I gonna eat ice cream with?" line. sure, it sounds silly, and kinda selfish, I guess, but in Roxas' mind, eating ice cream is equal to a strong friendship between people

I love Roxas' reaction to learning about Kingdom Hearts. "Great . . . I guess?" And the fact that he's questioning Xemnas' whole "Kingdom Hearts will make us so amazing" spiel that he gives from the very beginning.

Also, love that Roxas intuits long before he has any evidence that Xion might have visions of Sora like him, or at least be capable of it.

I don't think the Icecream/friendship dynamic is silly at all, and I think this is what they mean by "no emotions" they aren't born with any, so any understanding of emotions comes from what they're told emotions are: in this case, friendly affection is given via Icecream, and roxas mimicks the seashell thing from Xion as a way to share his concern with her unconsciousness, in other words, he's able to have feelings because their feelings and the expression therefore are (at least initially) intrinsically tethered to material objects, and other concepts that don't pertain to the nebulous idea of the heart

In other words, they _have_ feelings, they just didn't learn to express them in the way that (to pick a random example) DiZ would recognize, leading to some people to perpetuate the myth that they don't _have_ feelings, that they aren't real people, against all evidence to the contrary. Even when they work with one for a year.

@@timothymclean Yeah Pretty much, [insert obligatory correlation between the emotions of the Nobodies and the autistics here because there are some neat parallels, and internet theorising clearly cannot believe that a fictional species of thing cannot be rooted in reality in any way]

I have no idea how intentional it was, but the fact that Xion and Roxas can hear the ocean means they have hearts, in the anatomical sense. The sound of the ocean from inside a seashell is the sound of moving blood, echoing around the seashell and back into your ears where you can hear it. In order for them to have moving blood, they need to have a heart that pumps it around the body. Hence, Xion and Roxas have hearts. 'Xemnas summoned us. Nothing he says ever makes sense to me." I just had to laugh out loud with that one. And I'll bet most of the other Organization XIII people feel the same way too. Heck, I'll bet Saïx can't make much sense out of Xemnas either, but he prefers not to show it. "Do the other Organization members have their own routines?" Sure, Xigbar, Xaldin, and Lexaeus would hang out near Traverse Town's bell and eat Flamin' Hot Cheetos together. Zexion, Larxene, and Marluxia would meet up in Agrabah and eat falafel. And Luxord and Demyx would meet up with Vexen in Middleton and eat grilled turkey legs. Saïx used to hang out with Axel in Force-Land and eat roast Porgs, but ever since Axel left to hang out with Roxas and Xion in Twilight Town eating sea salt ice cream bars, Saïx just stays in the castle and raids the fridge. Also borrows Roxas's toaster without asking first. And these activites make too much sense for Xemnas to care much about. Having ice cream alone makes Roxas's hands salty and sticky? Something about that sounds like a euphemism.

1st paragraph: Hm, feels like a hint. 2nd paragraph: Yeah...Xemnas and sensical words typically don't go hand in hand. 3rd paragraph: Xemnas subsists solely on his arm-raised prayers to his Kingdom Hearts. 4th paragraph: Um...don't tell Roxas. His poor little mind has enough to worry about.

Did anyone else just realize the discrepancy where in a late cutscene Axel remembers the winner stick but doesn't know what you win, nor does Roxas know either, but in one of the early journals he goes and finds out.

Just a quick question about the Upcoming Birth By Sleep Story Mode. In the final mix version there entire level that was added to that game that connects with both 0.2 a fragmentry passage and the recent KH3 and you have to go through a bit of trouble to unlock. I myself was able to do it last year by beating the game on critical mode which I don't recommend. So I guess what I'm asking is are you going to try and unlock that level or are you going to do something similar to what you did here with 358/2 days?

You can get the secret endings/bonus levels at different difficulties, but they are harder to achieve. I played on Standard and got all three, but I had to complete everyone's sticker collection, collect all of the Xehanort reports, and defeat 9,999 enemies.

I find holding it with the wrapper annoying, my "technique" is to remove it and hold the ice-cream pointed downwards and not above anything that I care about becoming sticky when not eating it.
