For those who are curious about Days name, it’s supposed to reflect Roxas and Xion story through almost a year. You end the game at day 358, and the prologue to KH2 shows the last 7, completing a year. Info was from Days ultimatmaina with an interview with the creator.

I feel that people shitting on 358/2 Days only do so because a few reviewers said it was a trash game without even giving it a chance. I’ll admit, it’s not great, but it’s certainly not as bad as many think it is. I had a TON of fun with it back when it was released at the age of 17, where I was old enough to know what a truly shit game was. And this game isn’t one of them.

I mean cutscene collection even not that good - Square Enix did a sloppy job there. Everglow's recap of Days is so much better with all moments there - funny ones like "that's a stick" and "wrong buttons" scenes and seriously awesome like fight against "We don't accept resignations" Saix.

I think you might be a bit nostalgia blind. kh games are sorta known for being awful. their only redeeming quality is that its kh. 358 is bad for the gameplay, the story, the mechanics and gets a pass for being on a handheld and KH. its odd how if you don't enjoy it its because you never gave it a chance to wow you even with others who played it full still ranking it pretty badly. for a game to pull, its functional leads me to think its a bad game. there is little to no reason to choose an average game that are made a dime a dozen over finding an actual good game (unless its a invested series). could you actually recommend a game like that. even BBS is broken from the ground up and thats a game i enjoy that i woul write off as bad but ( a enjoyable turn off your brain kind.) golden sun is also a game i enjoy thats a complete mess. stuff like this reminds me of ff13 and that it gets good at about 20h in. its ea sy to see that people who just went off and completed the game when it opens up a bit not like it as much as those who did the optional content. a game that only allows you to actually play it in side missions. most people don't want to wait for post game to enjoy something and non main title kh games are just that (waiting for it).

Awesome part 2, Looking forward to the finale. I have a little note about "Osaka Team" discourse, In reality, it only applies to BBS, DDD, and some DS games, KH3 while technically made by the same team diversion. but the development team has been changed/expanded so much that it's barely the same as in 2011-2013. Especially for the gameplay designer team (which is where criticism mainly focuses on), only one person, Tai Yasue, remains from BBS/DDD to KH3.

@@Mario_KHX its the prevalence of medium sized enemies (only combo finishers flinch them) to large enemies (full superarmor), and their unusually bloated HP values and decent phys resistance to encourage magic usage which along with status effects is actually extremely broken in this game. So basically more on the RPG side of ARPG

I still respect Re;Coded for achieving what seemed impossible - bringing actual BALANCE to "Command Deck" system. BBS, Dream Drop Distance, Days... Every one of them had problems - either too limited and weak like Days or having OP stuff like FRICKIN' BUBBLES and SURGE SPELLS... And then what seemed like the most unimportant game in the series... Actually has the most balanced iteration of "Command Deck" - at no point can you just go and meld Endgame Commands in first two worlds like MEGA FLARE or Raging Inferno and steamroll through the game, you can't just pack 4 Mega Flares and explode everything on screen because guess what MEMORY LIMIT - Data-Sora's Commands have a Memory Size to them and you can't go voer capacity - so take your time to make a BALANCED deck and not just slam 4 screen clearing nukes. Seriously "h.a.n.d. Inc." (guys behind NDS games) managed to do something in Re:Coded that Osaka Team never did - bring balance to COMMAND DECK system. This alone makes this game worth remembering if not for the story then just for showing the REAL potential of Command Deck system if it is balanced and fine tuned properly instead of "SLAP BALLOONS ON IT". ------------------------------ Also on Terra - he is not per se "Stupid" and more of "I ran into suspicious person - So I'll play along till I'm sure they are evil" - he doesn't know like Player that he ran into a villain so he gives everyone a benefit of the doubt. I mean he plays along and kinda follows Queen's order to "kill Snowhite" only because he is gathering evidence about Big Picture situation and doesn't want to fight with locals without need - I mean it was a smart thing to do "Yeah sure gimme the box and give me a free passage through your castle" instead "BRUTE FORCE THROUGH ANY OBSTACLE". On the other hand Master Xehanort looks like bald creepy supervillain to players... But to Terra it was a legendary Keyblade Master that was a close friend of Master Eraqus and kinda had 75+ years of protecting Realm of Light to back him up - why the heck he should suspect the man? At least Terra didn't try to kill Tremaine family like Aqua did just because "I feel some Darkness inside them" and didn't need Fairy Godmother to talk sense into him.

h.a.n.d keyblade fighting look and felt better. If kh3 was made by hand, the base game would be a lot better than osaka team's base game. one of few flaws is that upper strike is a card when it should have been like days when you hit another button to get upper strike.

THANK YOU, Terra is not dumb just gullible. Of course the player knows the Disney villains are evil, we’ve known them basically our whole lives, but Terra literally just met them. He doesn’t know anything about them, he just drops into a world and strikes up conversation with the first person he sees (which is a little questionable but again, he’s gullible and has lived in a nice castle his whole life surrounded by friendly faces). The Evil Queen example is, as you point out, a sign that he’s actually not that dumb and is able to pick up on red flags, like she tells him to kill some random girl and he’s like “okay” but did he ever intend on following up on her request? I don’t think so since all he does is strike up a conversation with Snow White when he meets her even though he could’ve easily just killed her and returned to the castle if that was his goal. It seems more likely that he was curious as to why the Queen wanted Snow White’s heart since, y’kno, hearts are kind of a significant concept in the franchise and it’s relevant to his mission. Anyway, rant aside, Terra gets a bad rep that he doesn’t deserve. He may be dumb but he’s not an idiot.

I really enjoyed DDD, the drop is annoying on occasion, but you can plan around it. I enjoyed flying around the levels grinding and shit. But tbh is dead easy, you can command grab every enemy and it can chain. So you just hop from enemy to enemy, but it looks slick so that's fine.

I'm hoping KH4 will feature Kairi as the playable protagonist with Donald and Goofy serving as her partners just as they did with Sora. It's about time she graduated from damsel While Riku searches for Sora, Yen Sid instructs Kairi to visit different worlds and identify the new 7 hearts after Maleficent and Pete steal a Gummiphone and gives it to Pete's old friend Emil Eagle to see if the data inside will be any good to them. At the same time they also try to find info on the masked people (the lost Masters of course) they saw Xigbar with before they take the Black Box from him. In case Mleficent decides to go after the other princesses, Yen Sid orders Terra, Ventus, Aqua, Roxas, Xion, and Axel to guard Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Alice, Belle, and Jasmine respectively. Since it will be her first time traveling through the worlds, Donald, Goofy, and Jiminy decide to go with her to watch her back. As for Mickey, he's tasked with following aleficent and Pete. This mission will serve as Kairi’s Mark of Mastery. Before she starts her journey, each character bestows Kairi a magic ability: Fire (Axel), Blizzard (Isa), Thunder (Roxas), Magnet (Xion), Earth or Gravity (Terra), Water (Aqua), Aero (Ventus), Cure (Namine), and Stop (Mickey). The worlds Kairi visits will be based on these movies and in the following order: Brave Frozen 2 Cinderella 3 The Little Mermaid 2 Pocahontas The Princess & The Frog Mulan 2 Moana Aladdin & The King Of Thieves Winnie The Pooh (2011) The worlds for Tangled the series and Snow White would also be visited but only in cutscenes. Radiant Garden and the Bug Blocks will return. Pocahontas, Tiana, Anna, Rapunzel, and Moana will be confirmed to be 5 of the new hearts. There will also be 6 summons: Olaf, Fairy Godmother, Maui, Genie, Mushu, and the 7 Dwarfs. During all this time, there will be cutscenes of Sora and Riku's time in Quadratum and after clearing all the Disney worlds, Kairi, Donald, and Goofy find their way there and join up with them for the final battles. Towards the end, everyone learns a startling truth. When the X-Blade was broken into 7 lights and 13 darknesses, not only did the 7 lights become the hearts for the 7 Princesses, but the 13 darknesses became the hearts for 13 of the most black hearted villains, the 13 Lords of Darkness. And all of them must be reunited to recreate the X-Blade. I also came up with 2 side games: First there is "KH: Mickey's Quest". This game takes place during the first. It will focus on what Mickey was doing while Goofy and Donald were traveling with Sora. The worlds Mickey visits are based on Gummi Bears, Leroy & Stitch, Bambi 2, Song of the South, The Wind In The Willows, Bedknobs & Broomsticks, Darkwing Duck, and The Great Mouse Detective. The second is "KH: Bonds of Time" which will follow Roxas and Xion going on a special mission together. This will take place either before or after KH4. Yen Sid has the two of them go back in time to the days of the lost masters to learn more about them and their successors, 2 of whom they recognize as Ventus and Marluxia. Before they arrive in Daybreak Town, they travel to different times in various worlds. The worlds they visit are based on: Beauty & The Beast, The Sword In The Stone, The Hunchback Of Notre Dame 2 , Tarzan 2, Alice In Wonderland, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid 3, 101 Dalmations, and Ducktales The Movie: Treasure Of The Lost Lamp. I chose these movies so we can see their worlds done right with the new graphics and all and we can interact with the young version of Tarzan and Simba. We will also get to fight Gaston, Madam Mim, Cruella, and Merlock. Jiminy procures the aid of Bernard and Miss Bianca from "The Rescuers" to join Roxas and Xion to watch their backs and chronicle their journey on his behalf using the Gummi Phones. The gameplay for this game will be similar to Birth By Sleep only you don't have to create 3 games for 3 separate characters. Instead the player will be able to switch between Roxas and Xion during the journey and battles. Plus if one gets knocked out, the player will automatically be able to switch to the other and heal them when they can. Although both characters can be used, some abilities and techniques will be exclusive to each of them as they level up. However, if KH4 is going to once again have Sora as the playing character. I hope at least 9 to 10 of these movies will be featured as new worlds. 1. THE SWORD IN THE STONE 2. THE JUNGLE BOOK / 2 3. ROBIN HOOD 4. THE BLACK CAULDRON 5. THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE 6. DUCKTALES THE MOVIE TREASURE OF THE LOST LAMP 7. POCAHONTAS 8. A BUG’S LIFE 9. DINOSAUR 10. THE EMPEROR’S NEW GROOVE 11. ATLANTIS THE LOST EMPIRE 12. TREASURE PLANET 13. THE INCREDIBLES 14. CARS 15. BBS is my favorite game in the series, I was way more invested in this trio then the original. Mostly because the girl actually does something. Also Jesse McCarthy is probably their most talented "celebrity" voice and does a great job, his Ventus is really the glue that holds all the melodrama together.

The thing about Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days is that even though Roxas was the main character, it was Xion that contribute to the plot the most. It was Xion who question her role in the Organization and their motives. It was Xion that ultimately decided to leave and act on her suspicions while Roxas just did what he was told even though he share the same suspicions. It was Xion who ultimate convinces Roxas to return to Sora to become whole. Roxas for the majority of the plot doesn't know what was going on and is left in the dark. Alot of the he does missions are mindless fluff while Xion's scenes kept pushing the plot forward. What ironic is that Xion was clearly not meant to be important and just slap on this game. They added some BS in the end that when she dies, everyone in the game will forget her. But because of her large fanbase, she just kept coming back as cameos in other games. Not because they need her to contribute to the plot. (Every cameo in future games is unimportant and she can easily be cut out or replace.) She kept coming back because people really like the character.

But either way, the only thing worse than killing off characters just for shock value and nothing else, is killing off characters just for shock value and nothing else just to resurrect them from the dead. Nothing cheapens death like bringing characters back from the dead. Go on and jump off a cliff into water head first. Even if you land on rocks, you can respawn at the nearest hospital because death is but a few cents at most!

I played 358 days in middle school and loved it, fueling my appreciation for roxas as a character, and I never knew about the mission mode.

"Floaty" was never about how much time you spend in the air. It's more about the energy of the actual hits in combat. In KH2, each attack is super snappy and you never feel like you're not in control of your character for any length of time (outside of long limit breaks where you're invincible anyway). Meanwhile in BBS, you press the attack button and it feels like you're swinging a balloon sword through honey and hoping the enemy doesn't move before you hit them... And then you have to hope they actually got staggered or chances are you'll get hit while you're still wiping the honey off your sword between attacks. It's like basic attacks are just a suggestion, rather than control. Commands are basically always the better option because while many of them are also slow and clunky, they at least can do a good chunk of damage and/or leave you less vulnerable. The basic attacks, meanwhile, feel super unsatisfying to use. Even when you get through to your combo finisher, your big, lengthy, built up keyblade swing doesn't yeet enemies to the moon in a kinetically justified way - it just goes "clink" and does a bit of damage while the enemies react like they've just been tickled. The basic attacks in BBS are built just like commands themselves, with long, slow animations that make them useless for actually comboing and crowd-controlling enemies. So instead, you end up just running around until there's a safe opportunity to attack, at which point you might as well just use one of your actually good command attacks. Like, Jesus, look at 1:31 in the video. You're RIGHT next to Aqua, press attack, and she just walks around you in your windup so you completely miss. It's horrible. This happened in KH1, too, when you didn't have any abilities. It felt horrible, but it was still better because your recovery time was shorter, AND you'd eventually get abilities like slapshot that fixed it (also, it was the first game figuring shit out). In KH2 this kind of thing would never happen.

Good video, just one thing: re coded was released after BBS, and actually is its command deck to be the upgrade version. In BBS the commands are broken as hell, with fast cool down and most of them act like a single floaty move, separated from each other. In the other hand, coded commands are more balanced and is possible to link commands with normal attack to create more combo, that's not possible in BBs, save for some combination with magnete and thunder

All I feel is Kh 2 was the height of Kingdom Hearts. After that, BBS did have a new....wonder to it but it's inclusion I've realized did more damage then good. From complicating Roxas, adding new layers to Xehnort, mucking up Sora's inheritance for the Keyblade, it made CoM not the worst thing in the world. I hated that games gameplay but at least it didn't mess up the story and wasnt a must know for Kh2

I honestly thought the Osaka team designed BBS to be more grounded. The game doesn’t really enforce aerial combat. I can’t say the same for KH3 though; the gameplay kept you 20 feet off the ground as much as possible

PSP had some real gems and Birth by Sleep is just one of them. I know next to nothing about KH but BBS was such a fun game to play through back then. If there is one thing KH is really good at, its being a dumb but very fun romp through out.

Birth by Sleep was where the story started to suck actual ass. Three friends that don't feel like friends, shitty motivations for each and stupid drama that could be fixed by simple, **simple** communication.

So, the gist of what people were raging about for BBS, was that it was developed for handheld--a shift from frame-perfect movement, to RPG number-crunching, because that'd likely be easier for a handheld engine. Combat is less about dexterity, and more about strategy & preparation. ...Is that the extent of the issue, or am I missing something else?

People felt the Command Deck was horrifically unbalanced. That alongside the "floaty" issue and people yearning for KH2-style gameplay made the infamous Osaka divide that continues to this day. Of course, it diminished once Osaka made the best secret bosses with Yozora and the new Data XIII.

358/2 can FINALLY be played with multiplayer via MelonDS, and someone's making a fork especially for it to add enhancements to the visuals and such. Super cool stuff, thought I'd share.

BBS' story is dumb in a lot of places, but outside of a few scant moments in 1 and 2, it's like shakespeare in comparison to the rest of the series, a lot of it manages to just barely ride that thin line between cringe and genius, and a few scenes made me go from really just liking 2 to being an actual fan of the series, something that has been taken advantage of and served as a source of deep personal regret ever since

I have no regrets about playing the Shadow Hearts games on PS2 and skipping this series completely, but I have to admit games like BBS (and DDD) do look fun and pretty enough just as a good AJRPG with a crazy story. Still too much of an asshole to actually give one a fair shot yet though. Always interesting to hear about the franchise from a fan's perspective : )
