I've really been enjoying the way you approach KH overall- with clear love for the series, but always with measured and tempered reasoning regarding expectations and hype. You acknowledge the weird quirks of the series, but maintain positivity and affection, and I feel like that so incredibly rare to find online. I feel like everyone is either getting insanely carried away with the hype, or sitting in a corner and bitching about how the series "isn't good anymore," as though anything is going to be as magical to them now as it was when it was brand new and they were children. You are right about the limited movement thing in Missing Link. Interviews from the event are slowly trickling out and Nomura revealed he hates walking around to play video games, so while it does have Geo features they can be bypassed to play it stationary.

You play it stationary until you run out of ap then you can put it in auto, close the app and log back in later and you character will have moved, fought and gained ap to let you play stationary again.

i know i'm super in the minority here, but just Mickey and Friends has always been one of, if not, my favorite side of Disney. If we somehow got like 90% KH and Square original stuff, but Donald and Goofy still had a significant role in the story I'd honestly be excited to see what that would look like. That being said, as much as I like how D&G looking for Sora now is reminiscent of when they were looking for the key in Traverse Town, i'm gonna be fucking upset if that's the bulk of their involvement in the story

That’s how I was for 3. It was fun, but watch out for the trailers. They went a little too hard with them on the runup to 3. So don’t watch the trailer if the title seems spoilery. Almost every plot twist, plot point, character, setting, and gameplay form for KH3 was officially spoiled by Square Enix itself. Let’s hope they don’t do that for KH4

I think it would be interesting if Sora gets to spend KH4 in Quadratum or live action Disney worlds, while the other characters explore the animated canon related to death.

Very excited about the potential metatextual elements of this game. My absolute favorite moment of the trailer is the opening narration: “If this isn’t the ending you desired - if it brings you despair - then leave this world for another.” It immediately seems like a confrontation of the detractors who don't like the meta-fictional direction that the end of KH3 took. This is new shit. The quote at the end is a direct continuation of the opening: "However, if you do leave this world behind, don’t expect to return to the one from which you came." It seems like Nomura is saying that it's pointless to seek refuge in nostalgia or familiarity. You can leave Kingdom Hearts behind but it's going to keep moving without you. If you're here for formula, to see Sora and friends traveling to Disney worlds and doing the same things you've seen this franchise do for 20 years, you're bound to be disappointed. Not to say that this is going to abandon the conventions of the series (ie Disney content and keyblade combat), but I expect the skeleton of the game to be wholly different. Nomura is definitely commenting on the nature of storytelling in video games, it's no mistake he introduced Yozora to us as a fictional video game character. It seemed like a wink-wink nudge-nudge reference to his own FFVSXIII history but turns out that he's actually going to subvert that by making Yozora the vehicle for whatever meta-fictional message he's sending (tbd what that message actually fully is, but the narration from the trailer seems to be more revealing than some people are giving it credit for in their overly literal interpretations). I'm fully convinced that this game, and this entire arc, is not going to end with some sort of happy status-quo restoring KH2-esque ending. That said, if it's revealed that Sora and Kingdom Hearts are actually fictional within the world of Quadratum, I'm going to lose my shit (with excitement).

I feel like the “unreality” worlds that look more realistic will be the theme of this game. So, I rarely see anyone bringing up Melody of Memory when they're discussing where things are going in 4. From the cutscene at the end, it's clear that they've figured out roughly where to go to find Sora and Riku was sent to find him. Kairi will at the very least be unavailable for the beginning of the game since she still needs to train, but beyond that, the information we have is practically nothing. It's not likely that we'll be getting much more for a while, either. Probably a few more gameplay teasers, a couple world reveals and maybe a reveal on a couple of the keyblades we can expect to see in the game.

I really think Quadratum is going to serve as a sort of KH2 Twilight Town for 4. A tutorial, maybe a full first world, separate from the Disney worlds and SDG hijinks where we solely get focus on Sora's interim between 3, the side titles, and 4, and then once we get acquainted with new mechanics, have a big setpiece battle, and eventually get payoff for interspersed scenes of the crew piecing together how to get Sora back.

It's written in katakana, which is the Japanese character set used for transcribing foreign words, in the same way that the third option reads "Item" in English.

Realistically, I don't see Star Wars becoming a part of the Kingdom Hearts universe. I think people are blowing things way out of proportion, sort of how they did with the announcement of KH3. Yes, the tiny circular object does look like the foot of an AT-ST. However, I don't see Endor being a world in the game. Nomura may be a big Star Wars nerd, but it's more likely he's drawing inspiration from that franchise to create something new alongside Quadratum. Logistically, he would have to go through many red tapes to get anything related to Star Wars in the game. While Lucasfilm is owned by Disney, it's operated entirely on its own, though Disney's heads have the final say. I'd imagine Kathleen Kennedy would want to have particular involvement in the development process. The same would probably go for Marvel. I would love to see Sora venture through these universes, but I don't think it would integrate well with Kingdom Hearts' traditional structure. If it does end up happening, awesome. But, I'm not going to overly hype myself and keep my expectations at a standard level. Otherwise, I'm excited to see the next chapter.

Dream Drop Distence had characters from The World Ends With You, the possibility that they’d covering all of them as potential avenues for returning Sora from the dead , maybe even combining a few of them, would be a very interesting route to take.

i actually think star wars is really, really likely even putting aside the forest in the trailer. the force in sw is narratively similar to the concept of 'heart' in kh, and there's also the light and dark side aspect. the anakin/obiwan and xehanort/eraqus parallels write themselves (it's not perfect but it's absolutely there), and then you have the fact that 'force ghosts' exist throughout the series, giving a clear tie-in to the themes of the afterlife and how people are still with you even after they pass on, etc. personally i'm all for it, i think there's a lot they could get out of pulling from sw, particularly if they start with luke or anakin rather than with the newer movies. but maybe i just want sora to fight boba fett and be friends with luke skywalker and r2d2, who's to say! i think of the animated disney properties you mentioned moana is a shoe in, and coco is a strong contender. soul is a maybe because it's obviously perfect in its story, but i struggle to see it working for gameplay/battles. i also think we're likely to return to toy story if they can figure out a way to do it, perhaps skipping ts2 as far as story goes and jumping ahead to ts3 since that covers themes of loss and letting go. since the original toy story world was also the one that connected us to verum rex in kh3 that may make it even more likely. now onto what i don't want to be involved...which is marvel. i genuinely just think there's too much to bite off when it comes to the mcu at this point and i don't really see it thematically working here. i think they'd have to pick a singular character like captain america (who would maybe work thematically since his relationships with bucky and peggy actually aren't a bad parallel for sora/riku/kairi) but if they end up doing a whole mcu or avengers world...well i guess we'll see. maybe i'm just burnt out on the mcu in general but i fail to feel any excitement when thinking about the concept, except for maybe imagining sora meeting peter parker, which would admittedly be very cute. all that said, khiv is clearly a while in the future so as you said at the end of this video i'm probably going to set all that aside and focus on other things for now (except when new regular pat videos come out of course lol). i think i'll just end by saying while kh3 was hampered by a lot of things, i think it's always going to be harder to end an arc than to start a new one. there's more natural excitement when something new is on the horizon, and i am absolutely feeling this about khiv.

If it wasn’t for the fact the civilians reacted to Uber dark side I would have said this is the UG from the world ends with u considering sora and strelitzia are “dead”. Which would thus be the follow up to ddd. But since most people in twewy are part of the RG, they wouldn’t be able to see monsters so I have no clue if twewy will be a part of all this but it’d be weird not to. Like why make quadratum look like shibuya and shinjuku and not have the twewy or neo characters in some capacity? Ok so I looked up at Twitter and read various articles and there were many interesting info like at the start of the event Nomura said that 'He was confused whether to make Verum rex or KH4' so he instead decided to go for KH4 cause he along with fans were worried about sora and we are all anticipating that new saga so from what I can gather: Yes, Quadratum was a world from verum rex and it was realistic looking, no doubt about that but in that toy box world that trailer displayed completely new characters, and it was clearing teasing FF versus 13 related stuff and so we all thought it was a Easter egg and nothing more and nothing less but now from this comment I can say that after KH4 Nomura is gonna make a sub/side franchise which is 'Verum Rex' and if not that then most probably another spin off game but imo it all points verum rex becoming it's own franchise. And since nomura stepped down from director from FF7 remake due to 'unprecedented amounts of projects' tells me that alongside with KH4 he's working on another game or two but we'll see and other than that I am really excited for the future of Kingdom hearts!!

the first thing that a friend of mine said about the blue-red flame character that donald and goofy search for in the "kh-world-style" is that its hades, the lord of underworld who brings people to the WORLD OF DEATH. So to think that the two got scared because he is one of the iconic disney villains beside maleficent, is fitting for their reaction and that they want to ask him for help because maybe he has a sort of insight of this "Afterworld" or world where people come after dying, to help them on how to get to sora or get him back is also really fitting. Maybe Hades would insist because they have the same enemy and he gets a chance to obtain the mysterious box of the master of masters, which he and Malificent search for, which is in possesion of Luxu. Also wouldnt it be possible that Master Eraqus and Xehanort and everyone who has died so far, came to that world after their death, if they didnt hold on to something like the "stars" in the sky-water world? And the most important question of them all: Would Donald in Quadratum look like a normal duck and Goofy be a proper dog like Pluto, if it is based on the real world?

Hadn't considered Missing Link using real world locations, that would be really cool! Also, I really feel it with needing to temper expectations post KH3. While not every potential aspect game-wise is super thrilling all the time, it's still such a pleasure to see where this crazy journey takes Sora and co!

My expectations are zero mostly because I didn't like KH3 much, but I have also come to realise I will never get the same magic I got from the PS2 games. Expectations and the insane wait time definitely didn't help how I felt about 3 but if 4 is similar, I'm not gonna enjoy it. I'll play KHIV eventually, but yeah, I kinda just...am ambivalent at this point. I hope it turns out great, I really do. But yeah, hopes are non existent. And I think it'll be PS5/Xbox series X release, with a PC port a year or two later.

One thing to note about the KH4 trailer mechanically is that it's quite possible smooth action of the chain bit may be a bit of a hint that we're seeing the DMC battle designer that's been working on FFXVI working on KH4's battle mechanics as well, since the key chain working similar to Nero's demon/robo arms from DMC 4 and 5 would actually explain the whip step, they just don't have the shiny ui element to show what's a grapple point or not in the gameplay just to make the gameplay feel that much more "smooth."

I’m really curious about how sora basically takes bites of darkness from that punch and integrates it into the drill attack, maybe one of the new combat mechanics will be building up power while fighting heartless and using their own power against them. Or this could just be the case of sora trying to really balance dark and light powers. Either way I’m hopefully to have darkness to be more central in the gameplay

The fact that the building is 104 and TWEWY has made appearances in KH before makes me really hope they bring in Shibuya again, but who knows. It's very clear that Tetsuya has been wanting to make a solid fantasy game set in modern(ish) day Tokyo for quite some time. The original plan for Versus XIII was to have it take place in Shibuya, then TWEWY and its sequel were in Shibuya, and now he's circling back to it with the end of KH3 showing Yozora, plus he took inspiration from a more modern aesthetic with the FF7 remake, etc. I just hope he gets the chance to 1) finally do it and 2) do it well, considering half the failures with it thus far have been his fault. ? Edit: also, TWEWY is almost entirely about the afterlife and post-death transformations, so it would fit.

I was sent the KH4 trailer and thought it was fake and someone made it on Unreal or something. With KH3 being more cartoon-like and this world looking like Advent Children, I wasn’t convinced until the action started. I hope they don’t overshare what all is gonna be in this like KH3, cause the mystery on how everything will connect is the most intriguing part

we'll have to wait and see. FF 7 remake was awesome. so if it can stand up to that and improve upon it, it could be one of the best games so far. maybe even rivaling the champion, KH 2.

I figure the universe with Quadratum will encompass Disney’s sci-fi properties as opposed to the cartoony “magic” ones we’ve seen in the past. Star Wars was one of the properties I was imagining being featured, along with Marvel’s MCU and Avatar (the blue alien movie) representation. Some are throwing around ideas with a variety of live action Disney movies like Escape to Witch Mountain, but I honestly can’t see them featuring such whimsical “magic” movies merely because it was live action. I think they’d be looking to avoid using such properties since it has the same tone as the Disney cartoon worlds we’ve seen. If anything, I think we might see Donald and Goofy (and maybe Riku or Mickey?) travel through some Disney cartoon worlds back in their universe while Sora explores this new universe’s offerings of Jedi, the Avengers, and the quest for unobtanium.
