I saw this movie on Wednesday night and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s not on the level of the previous three films, but there aren’t a lot of trilogies on that caliber. What Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes does is build around what the audience knows and doesn’t know, as well as what the characters know and don’t know. That dynamic makes for a very engaging story being told. The CGI is fantastic and the actors portraying the characters all give rock solid performances. Now, what I will say about this movie is that it didn’t evoke the emotions that the Caesar trilogy did. Again, that’s an incredible high bar, but when comparing the themes to even just Rise of the Planet of the Apes to Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, it’s not at that quality. Right now, this is my third favorite movie of 2024 so far, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this film cracks my Top 10 Favorites of the year by the end of 2024. Still, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is a rock solid entry to this continuity of Apes films.

Idk if this is a hot take, but I think I prefer Kingdom to Rise, Rise still a 9.5/10
@Do0msday7 ай бұрын
@@miguelgcgamer9878 I think I'm with you on that. Rise was a great movie, but 'Kingdom' reminded me a bit of it. There were parts of both that felt a bit flatter/slower, but it was essentially info dumping/world building. Similar to 'Rise', this movie had to showcase how the current world was and how different factions were. I do feel it lacked a bit of the emotional connection that 'Rise' had, but I actually preferred 'Kingdom' with how the world wound up looking. Seeing nature reclaiming buildings, the use of CGI/motion capture, and the issues with trust were done so damn well in this movie. Noa was solid, but he is no Caesar, and yet I still loved this movie. So I agree...I think I liked Kingdom as a whole (including how it will be used as a launch point to start a new trilogy) just a tad more than Rise.

I actually liked Mae a lot more than I thought I would. Conversely I didn’t feel like the ape part of things ever quite reached amazing heights. Based off the trailers I thought Mae would be someone that Noa takes a liking to and protects her along their journey. I thought the direction they went with her was a lot more complex and interesting. If you think about it, an intelligent human in these times cannot have such straightforward motivations and goals.

I think Kingdom is wonderful. Exceeded any possible expectations I might have indirectly possessed, because I tried not to have expectations either and don’t feel like I did, but it’s hard when you have such love for the trilogy. I think Kingdom is proof that you can have an actual good franchise. The stories all interlock and it’s amazing to see all the little tie-ins to the first three and especially how they all have nods to the original PotA. And obviously Ceasar is supreme and all of the original characters are so beloved, but we had three films. This one is just the intro to the new characters, so there’s not as much time to be invested. I will say though, Rako is no Maurice, but I was very fond. The opening act made me cry like a baby, too. Ceasar created a legacy and it’s such a sad but beautiful story. These movies are so special to me. ❤❤❤

I really like that they continued the genesis of the apes’ intelligence into this 4th one. Part of what made the original trilogy so great was seeing the apes evolve from movie to movie - one word to use of tools and horses to conversation to curiosity and civilization, etc. In this one they capitalized on that with Proximus - an ape that now has such a curiosity of history and a narcissistic personality that makes him just like any charismatic human dictator who came to power. Helps just continuously drive home the theme of humanity and the comparisons between the two species in the movies.
@jermainehaslam56347 ай бұрын
This movie is so good, I've watched it twice and it still blew me away the second time but Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is still the best in the franchise. I thought William H. Macy was a cool character but I feel like he needed more development, him excepting the downfall of humanity and doing anything he could so that Proximus would spare him that was a cool idea.
Maze Runner gets shoe horned into the teen movie genre because it came out alongside a lot of movies like divergent and it does have a little of that flavor but they’re pretty damn good. I’d recommend giving em a shot.

I thought this film holds up very well even compared to the previous, amazing trilogy, I binge watched every POTA movie before watching this new one. What I liked about this one, is that it does let you sit in this world and take it all in, I think maybe more than any in the franchise yet. Like I stated, I love the previous trilogy, having just re watched them, I do feel like , some over look the imperfections in that trilogy tho, but of course Andy Serkis cannot be matched, I did think this new cast did very good at upholding his legacy. Think like stated at the end of this vid, this film has the potential to age well with time and more context.

The old 1960s, 1970s films I remember, mostly because dad had the VHS then DVD sets of them, so I grew up with them, I know those quite well, but not the newer ones. I'm even more familiar with the live action TV series and cartoon than the newer films, which is why I need to rewatch them. Hoped had more time, but guess not. However, I know I'll see it eventually, do want to. Anyways, thank you, Cody.

It's kind of unfair to compare Noa directly to Ceasar. The whole point of Rise was to build his character up. Kingdom was more about the world-building. However, there is a point where Noa takes a turn and changes for the rest of the movie. I like him a lot more after that.

One thing I noticed was that this film was very similar to War which was kind of meh imo. Spoilers: In both films, 1) the bad guys attack the hero at their home early on 2) Hero seeks out bad guys to get their captured tribe 3) Hero gets captured in the process of trying to free tribe 4) Hero then has to work together with his tribe to get free and kill their oppressors. Now the circumstances are different of course but 4 things being very similar to the last film was pretty annoying for me personally. I thought this film was at least better than War because War…had no war at all really since i just watched that on Saturday. Half of that film is trying to track the humans only for the main human to be taken out by a virus and then humans v. humans happens in the final 15 min of the film and then they all are wiped out in seconds by an avalanche. Long story short Kingdom is better than War i feel but it was damn near beat for beat plot similar to the last film.

Overall still a great film imo and a worthy successor when you keep this film within reasonable expectations. I continue to look forward with this new trilogy as I now have complete faith in the team running this franchise to make another great story. So, agree to disagree there. I do think the Caesar/Noah comparison is a bit unfair from the perspective it sounds like you were taking Cody. If you just wanna comp Noah with Dawn... Watched Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) on Wednesday. I really liked the new characters in this movie. Noa, Noa's mother, Raka and Soona, especially Raka. He was easily my favourite character. Kevin Durand as Proximus Caesar was a good villain. He wasn't on the same level as Koba or The Colonel (Woody Harrelson) but still far superior than Tom Felton and Steven Jacob from "Rise". If I have to nitpick something about the movie then it would be the character of Mae (Freya Allan). I couldn't really connect to her character up until to the point where her true intentions were revealed and that happened in the 3rd Act and then the movie ended. I thought the character played by William H. Macy (whose name I don't even remember anymore) was pretty useless. I wish Proximus Caesar had more screentime in the movie. There were some logic errors which have to do with this time jump of 300 years. I guess that will be explored more in the future Sequels but right now they are logic errors for me. There was also a scene that is a reference to the original "Planet of the Apes (1968)" and it felt too much "Member Berries" for me. The filmmakers even reused partly the same Jerry Goldsmith score in that scene. I felt like that Leonardo DiCaprio Pointing Meme when I saw that on the big screen. But overall I still really liked this movie. If I have to rank it in this Reboot/Prequel Era of the Planet of the Apes Franchise, I liked it better than Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) but it wasn't as great as Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) or War for the Planet of the Apes (2017). Kingdom of the Planet of The Apes (2024) gets 4/5 stars from me.
