I really liked the movie. It makes sense that the human part isn’t yet over and they’ll make a final stab at regaining control before the apes truly take over. I also really liked how you could see the first steps towards the ape’s later social structure: the chimps getting interested in science, the orangutan's wisdom and them eventually becoming the cultural leaders and finally the gorillas as the military. They aren’t there yet, but the early signs are there and I can’t wait to see how that will evolve in what we see in the original planet of the apes.

I agree that human conflict is necessary for an Apes story to work, but the way this movie handled it was still a poor choice. They could've presented an interesting dilemma where the apes are simultaneously indebted to humanity while also treating them as animals. Or speculate on if apes are doomed to repeat the path of the human race. Or ask whether Ceaser would've prioritized helping humans even if they lacked intelligence. But they didn't do anything like that. Instead of finding some new, unexplored twist on this conflict, they seem perfectly content to restart the exact story we just finished

Just saw the film. It definitely keeps up the quality in so many ways. The animators and performance capture actors have outdone themselves again - WETA are the gods of this space and it’s good to hear them roar. The writing is mostly solid, but there are three scenes that really bring down the quality of the whole film through their sheer laziness and contrived set up. I won’t spoil the film, but you’ll know them for when a smart character does something inexplicably dumb, and leaves themselves incredibly vulnerable for no good reason except the story wanted something to happen to them and had no better way of getting them in position than for them to walk like lambs to slaughter. That really brought the film down for me. I really loved the librarian character - wish they actually utilized him more. Wasn’t sure what the point of him was by the end, as his inclusion at first seemed like it would be a massive deal, and then his knowledge and teaching affected nothing. But maybe that was the point.

New movies need to be about Apes enter in contact with a man that comes from the past and start a revolucion for peace between man and ape.

Are they ever going to connect Marky Mark with these?

It seems like it took 4 films of the new franchise to finally "remake" the first movie of the original franchise.

I'm with you, Dan -- the human element of doesn't work near as well as it should, to the degree that it does pull down the movie's overall quality. (despite this, I still really liked it, and plan on seeing it again.) no more humans!

"... made all the worse by doing everything he's doing in Ceasar's name." Absolutely no real world analogies i could make here. Nope. None at all.

Agreed that I’m not too interested in a man vs ape tug of war of power for another trilogy but in reverse.

Saw and early screening, and I'd pretty much agree with Dan. It's a really good, thought-provoking, heartfelt movie that lands just a tad shy of great. Man, humans really do make everything worse.

Well said, Dan, I agree with pretty much everything you brought up. I also hoped it was more emotional, the same way the Caesar trilogy was for me. But still, solid movie and I’m interested to see where they take the franchise.

I think this will ultimately lead to the true battle of the apes.....so it'll all depends if you rout for the apes or humans. If the humans are all killed off why would you wnat to go to a future movie of planet of the apes?
