Thanks for reacting to Alamat! That song is about the different perspectives from children of overseas workers. Here in the Philippines, it is common for at least one parent to be away from home for years just so that they can send money back to the family. As a result, many of these children grow up a little more financially stable than others but lacking in emotional support and parental guidance. Please react to their Wish Bus performance next 😁🙏

You're right that they do appreciate their parents, but the song also convey the sorrow of the kids whose parents left them to support the family by working abroad.

It hits hard so many of my friends are OFWs (overseas Filipino Workers) many feel there is no other choice than years away from family to provide better for them. I am talking contracts for 3 years away. I have one friend (a mother) who has work abroad now for 9 years or more with only a month or so vacation with family before a new contract is started. This song is that it is so sad that so many have to make this personal family sacrifice. Hard on the parents hard on the kids. Some go and they never come back sadly. Ken from SB19 is a child of OFW parents. Both his parents work abroad and he was raised by his grandparents so they could provide for him and his sister. He speaks of only seeing them his whole life maybe 3 or 4 times in person. This is the sacrifice so many make to help their families. Huge respect and my heart breaks that so often this is needed (years and years families must separate) to provide. This is very common over there. This addresses so many aspects of these OFW families. Love Alamat for these important messages in their music.

Thank you from appreciating ALAMAT, I decided to stan these guys because they are awesome and their songs are amazing. 💕 BTW, the song is about children with parents who work abroad which is common in the Philippines. The song basically states :to value their sacrifices for serving other household and babysitting other children to earn money instead of taking care of their own children. And the children to appreciate the effort of their parents and not spending too much of their hard earned money.

I'll do my best to keep you informed on this video. Maybe you can't follow because you're not familiar with the concept that parents go to another country for years, sometimes so long that their children have graduated college but they are still in another country, and their children only have at least a month a year to spend with their parents. It kinda became part of Filipino culture. While abroad, parents financially support their children while losing close connection with them. Sometimes children prefer to be with their parents because it is difficult to be apart from them, but it is also difficult to find work in the Philippines, so parents prefer to leave rather than suffer because they see their children struggling. The children are always longing for their parents. It's a sad reality, really. 3:26 this is called Penitensiya (a catholic lenten ritual in PH), this is to share the sufferings of Jesus. In this MV, it tells the story that both ends in the OFW family (Overseas Filipino Workers - it's so prevalent, we already coined a term for them), both parents and children share the struggles. It was also stated in the lyrics that they will work so that if they can already support the family, they will ask their parents to return home so that they can all be together. While their parents are away, the older siblings are sometimes expected to look after their younger siblings. You said the music changed a lot through the music video... actually, the music conveys feelings of longing for someone, so even without the lyrics, just listen to the audio and feel what they feel.

Thank you for reacting to Alamat! This song never fails to move me. I'm an A'tin and wasn't really looking to stan anyone other than SB19, though I'm a casual fan of several groups. But Alamat hits different. They have a distinct identity which sets them apart from the others. I love that they come from different areas of the Philippines, sing and rap in like seven or eight languages. They incorporate traditional instruments, music, dance, and culturally significant concepts into their work. They are truly unique and deserve a much wider audience. Please react to Kasmala🙂. Thanks again!

On top of ILY ILY wishbus performance, I recommend their recent rappler live jam performance for ILY ILY, Maharani, Hala & Gayuma. Aside from they sang a version of ILY ILY w/ just the 6 of them (the original version on its own is superb, btw) but if you want to hear them raw & live, it is the closest you could get. :)

yes, please watch and react at the Wish Bus performance , the live performance is epic, but you did the right thing watching the m/v first because it has the subtitle, the Wish Bus live don't have the caption. Thank you for reacting to Alamat.

This is dedicated for all the parents working overseas, the sacrifices they make just to provide food to the table and give their children a better future. The song also deals with the longing and loneliness of the children they had left behind even they are well provided. Also, the beginning of the song is a traditional Ilocano lullaby mostly sung by an older sibling that explains to the child that they should sleep as their mother is out buying bread. P.S. Yes please, react to their live version on the Wish Bus. Thanks!

It's a social commentary on how the parents go abroad to give the kids a good life and yet the kids ultimately feel abandoned. There's also the irony of having mothers taking care of other people's kids but failing to personally rear their own. They miss out on the formative years so some of these kids grow up spoiled, selfish and ungrateful. The emotional vacuum of not having your parents around can't be filled up with material things that's why there's sections of the MV where you see them throwing money, ripping gifts and balikbayan boxes. The song reminds this generation that the parents make a huge sacrifice in working overseas just to provide for their families. But there's also a social cost to separating kids from their parents just to attain financial stability.
