Sheryn is a great singer by any standard, but MORISSETTE is just on a different level and here is why! first Mori's tone is immaculate. full with rich overtones throughout her vocal range. second Mori's phrasing and articulation is IMPECCABLE. Sheryn's phrasing is a bit off during the verses. she's trying to create emotions with varying onsets and offsets but it's just off. her diction is a bit off while mori had such a command with her phrasing and articulation. 3rd Morisette is just a master in volume and textural dynamics. Mori uses the push and pull effect to perfection. she can be soft or gritty and she flips into different tones and textures intelligently to create drama. and last sheryn's approach on the bridge part (starting with humahagulgul) was a huge drop off in momentum. One of the biggest reasons why Morissette version of this song became a hit and not sheryn's, is because of the uptick in intensity during the bridge, which mori perfectly executes in her solo performance/ cover version of this song. it's just a different level of technical proficiency that mori brings to the table. Remember, I said Sheryn is a great singer by any standard. but Mori is just a beast!
