The hot knife was to cauterize the big incision that was made down his back. Cauterizing stops that cut from bleeding so he won’t die of blood loss. It was a methodical and cruel way to kill him, which I’m sure was exactly the point. To set him out on a display is meant as both a message to others not to cross them and of their ferocity, aswell as a tribute that their father could see from Valhalla. Revenge for their fathers death is not only about righting a wrong that was done to them. It was also about helping to make sure that Valhalla was the place he went and not hel.

@Shannon-vv6rr18 күн бұрын
@@thegreenreaper6660I don't think it's really a morbid curiosity of pain.. Ivar idolised his father and was told to be ruthless. He is absolutely seething like Floki in this scene. Floki and Ivar had such a lovely for Ragnar. It's not just Ivar watching like a serial killer- he specifically wants his "heathen" face and smile to be the last thing the Christian King sees. His smile is more ... Soaking up the justice of avenging his father and watching the man who did it perish. I'm sure anyone would feel pretty similar if their beloved was thrown into a snakepit and tortured to death. Aella underestimated a Vikings pure rage.. think that's the scariest Flokis been in the entire series. Ivar simply wants to see him suffer - he's not curious about the pain, he's SAVOURING it because that man took his dad. And because he wants Aella to see his face. Making Aella watch Ivars smiling blood splattered face as he's carved open, as a Christian, was added torture. Just as Floki when he's smiling at Aella- it's not a happy smile per say. They're furious. And they're gonna revel in ending the man who ended the man they love.

Was pulled from the wreck before suffering too many burns. Had a very large injury above my left eye to the top of my left ear from the windshield pillar folding downward and pinning me. Anyway mostly wanted to say when you havw determined that the moment has arrived, your body releases enough endorphines to grant you pain free passage. I lived through and the pain of daily burn dressing changes by far excedes any pain that a human should endure

What makes this more satisfying is that when Ælla and his men tortured and killed Ragnar, Ragnar didn't cry, beg, break, and didn't fear death. But when the Vikings punished and killed him, he cried, beg and even tried to bribe them, and was very scared, and hopeless.

People just tend to feel more positive thoughts and emotions about someone's death when it's someone you hate or you think deserved it. Ragnar's sons decided that Aella would pay for executing their father by giving him the same fate, according to their customs. Aella was begging, blubbering and just about shitting his pants before they killed him. He realizes that his offer of riches wasn't going to work, and yes, they were going to kill him, and he is absolutely petrified.
