It's a new year Marvel fans, and Echo is kicking 2024 off with the new street-level banner, Marvel Spotlight. The new Disney+ series will also mark the return of Vincent D'Onofrio's fan favorite villain, Kingpin. Kyle breaks down what this new venture means for the future of the MCU and how Kingpin could be at the center of it all on today's Nerdist News!

They are. Daredevil has his own 18-episode series coming, and Punisher is supposed to be in it.

Absolute yes! More Earth based big bads that DONT die would be good. They wasted Red Skull, and the majority of Spidermans major villains, so having Wilson take up that role would be amazing, especially with Vincent carrying the character through. It would also go a long way in helping finally introduce the F4 and some lower tier mutants as well. Not only that but they could introduce Mr Sinister through Fisk and his cronies.

This is an excellent move from Marvel, as it will allow "lower tier" characters to grow in the eyes of the audience, and provide a platform to introduce other characters as we move ahead.

The netflix shows were produced a MCU shows. There has never been a statement saying they are not in the MCU. This just reaffirms what has always been.The Marvel TV shows provided tons of MCU stories that were mostly standalone. There are many movies as well. A connection or a reference doesn't mean you need to have foreknowledge. The way people talk you wonder how any of them got through the original Star Wars. Infinity War/ Endgame did require a lot compared to others but if you actually have experience with stories (whic I hope if you are over 10 you do) you can probably get through it with less than you think.

Absolutely loving Echo so far (2 episodes in.) The camerawork and fight choreography feels very much like the Netflix shows, which is exactly what I was hoping for. Don't believe the negative reviews that are hitting the headlines.

A little confused by the point that most comics in the Big 2 are able to stand on their own. Most of the time this is not the case, and most friends trying to get into comics for the first time are constantly asking where they should start. I remember when I was first getting into DC in the 2000s, and everything felt like long interconnected crossovers that I wasn't caught up on.

Casual viewers want to see characters they know and care about the broad strokes. Obsessives like the tightly brushed characters. The problem with Netflix shows was they didn't interact with the big movies. Imagine if Daredevil and Jessica Jones had fought alongside Falcon and spiderman against Thanos.

Iron Fist was OK, ended really strong, and wasn't about Iron Fist (danny rand) but the true Iron Fist (Colleen Wing) who really DOES deserve a continuation. But it's very easy to just believe the group consensus based on misinformation and generalized opinion and just sway that way for positive feedback, I suppose...

@@mile_high_topher As someone not really 'into marvel' I loved the netflix series as they were like the spotlight concept in that they were character lead but with some super/ edge of reality stuff but not overly unrealistic. Iron fist wasn't great. Big fan of the Punisher, daredevil, JJ, Luke Cage though. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the marvel films etc but the whole storyline has become so convoluted that for a 'normal' non 'nerd' fan it is incredibly difficult to keep up!

Honestly this is a good move for Marvel, they really shouldn't overthink it when it comes to including DD and other street level heroes into the larger MCU narrative. Just let it happen organically like in the comics for crossover events. Look at the Shadowland arc for example

They need to just keep the tv series and the movies separate. Pulling characters in from all over the place expecting the audience to already be familiar doesn't work. I think that is why Marvels failed - if they kept the TV Characters away from the movie stars might not have had such a bad outcome. If I hadn't seen Wanda Vision I would have been lost in DS2 - If they want more than hardcore followers they have to keep them in separate bite sized bits
