You are absolutely right about the grits, and native people. In fact a lot of bbq techniques are a mix of African and native Americans styles. I believe corn bread is also. My Grandma was from Missouri and Grandpa was from Shreveport La. They taught me how to cook. And instilled a lot of good values in me, I'm truly blessed

Hi, Matt! I'm such a foodie. I enjoy watching you chow down and give reviews. I don't know if you've ever watched the movie (one of my life-time fave movies), "My Cousin Vinnie," there were scenes / discussions about GRITS and how long they should take to make them. Joe Pesci was absolutely hilarious in his role as Vinnie, and Marisa Tomei was even more hilarious and even won an Oscar for her role in that film. Side note: I always like sharp or extra sharp cheddar, but I normally prefer my grits with butter and a little milk and sugar, almost like a chunky Cream of Wheat hot cereal. Namaste

Perfect grits? 5 to 1, liquid to grits. Liquid = chicken broth, seasoned water, or 1/2 water or broth and 1/2 milk. Low and slow (30mins+) and KEEP STIRRING! Season to taste and drop in a fistful of cream cheese at the end. The real secret? 4:1, liquid to grits, IN A PRESSURE COOKER! Magic.

@@MattDV I know. But in the other video it’s really like just eating the normal foods served in regular fashion in regular restaurants. ‘Soul food’ is special though, distinctive from all the rest, makes a person get up early in the mornings and don’t eat nothing else all day until it’s time for some ‘soul food’, makes a man forget all his problems and worries when he eats ‘soul food’. A trifling ugly woman can still get married as long as she can cook ‘soul food’. Makes a man forget all his wife’s indiscretions when she cooks him ‘soul food’. Makes a man work two jobs if that’s what it takes to get some ‘soul food’. Silvia’s in Harlem’ NYC does it right, or used too. 👍🤷🏼
