The new Kings and Generals animated ancient historical documentary series covering the conquests of Alexander III the Great of Macedon continues with the aftermath of the siege of Tyre of 332 BC ( • Siege of Tyre 332 BC -... ), the battle of Gaza and the conquest of Egypt ( • Siege of Gaza 332 BC -... ) as well as the decisive battle of Gaugamela against Darius III in 331 BC ( • Battle of Gaugamela 33... ). Afterwards, Alexander's Asian campaign continued, as after defeating the remnants of the Acahemenid Empire at the battle of the Persian Gate and the Uxian Defile and the Persian Gates ( • Battle of the Persian ... ), Alexander marched into Central Asia, taking on the Saka at the battle of Jaxartes in 329 BC ( • Battle of the Jaxartes... ). Alexander's next target was the Sogdian Rock, where Spitamenes raised a rebellion against him and we also talk talked about the assassination of Cleitus ( • Battle of the Sogdian ... ). Then we discussed Alexander's campaign in Afghanistan, called Cophen (Kabul) campaign by the ancients and another assassination attempt, this time by the royal pages led by Hermolaus ( • Alexander in Afghanist... ). With the Cophen Valley secured, Alexander left Taxiles and pressed deeper into the sub-continent, making for the Hyphasis River. To do so, however, Alexander would have to pass through the territories of numerous Indian kings, having to either defeat or subjugate them in order to protect his rear. This portion of Alexander’s campaign from, Taxila to the Hyphasis, would prove to be some of the most difficult of Alexander’s career and the battle of Hydaspes against the Indian king Porus would occur during it ( • Battle of Hydaspes 326... ). Alexander's last campaign would be against the Mallians in modern Punjab ( • Alexander's Last War -... ). In the aftermath, Alexander returned to Babylon where he would spend his last year, making plans and enacting reforms.

There is this supposed story by Julius Africanus regarding Alexander's attempt at poisoning their wells/crops (?) to defeat the Scythian Allans, which none of the main sources (Arrian, Rufus, Siculus) had mentioned in their accounts. Are you familiar with this, and if so, when do you think this took place? I'm not even sure if this is legit since I'm struggling to find this alleged account on Google. It was a honor for you to be a part of history documentary and it was my honor to watch your documentary which was organized by 'Kings and Generals'. I have two questions to ask. 1, what kind of influence did the Ancient Iranians or Persians which was got by Alexander The Great's Administration and policymaking in the time of his life and aftermath of his death as a King of Kings. 2, How did the Parthian and Sassanid had a link with the Achaemenid dynasty and what are the causes of fall of Hellenic empires in later periods(accept Egypt, Bactrian and and Greece)? Would you please share the sources for the study? Because I too wanted to study the sources to have better understanding of Ancient history. 😅

I think Alexander arranged those marriages to Hellenize his empire from the top down. If his empire lasted at least a few lifetimes, I think the modern day regions would still heavily have influence. It’s interesting that a general and practical emperor would willingly fuse numerous cultures with his, and openly practice another culture, despite living in early antiquity, following historical figures before him, like Cyrus
@Sp-zj5hw

The Parthians took Crassus head to their capital , Ktesiphon and they showed it in their theater as the head of Dionysus, during the play "Bachaai" of Euripedes, in Greek. What biggest Hellenization one could expect? Also, do not forget that Eastern Roman Empire survived because it was a compact Hellenized territory with no internal cultural differences, unlike the mosaic of the Western one.
@boborappa

I always thought that being a Macedonian-Greek-Epirot made him think that mixing cultures isn't a threat. Considering he got mocked for his heritage (by macedonians for his mother being from Epirot) it's interesting that his fellow macedonian's children would be more like him, than them.

If that was his goal, he succeeded. All the places he conquered became heavily Hellenized over time, most effectively under the Diadochi states. For many centuries people in Bactria (Afghanistan) would worship Greek gods and write in Greek script; in northern India they would make Greek-style statues; in Iran they would watch Greek plays; in Pontus (north-eastern Turkey) they would study Greek philosophy; in Mesopotamia they would build Greek-style temples for their gods, etc, etc...

The death of Hephaestion must have been devastating for a man who's mental health was probably very fragile in the face of all the power struggles he encountered and had to preside over. I think it was Arrian who states that Alexander said that while most loved him for his success and brilliance as a king only Hephaestion loved him as he was. Arrian even states that Alexander was willing to forgive the Egyptian satrap for his crimes providing he built a monument to Hephaestion. It's interesting to wonder what Alexander would have done next in Arabia, Carthage and Sicily, all of which he would have to do without Craterus and Hephaesition, the two men he trusted the most.

I perceive similarities between Alexander and Kublai Khan: 1⁰- They both took over an empire. 2⁰- The two gradually adopted the costumes and culture of the conquered people and they even tried to blend their cultures with theirs. 3⁰- They both struggled against the most traditionalists sects. Ariq Boke antagonized Kublai and Hermolaus antagonized Alexander. I see the Yuan dynasty as a reference to what Alexander's empire would have been like had he lived longer.

I've been following your channel & few others since 2016, and I just love all that there is about Roman and other history related to them on this channel here, along with the others from Invicta... love your works! ❤ We need more vids about Rome's trade with the tribes of Northern Europe & others during its republic & empire + trade with Persia = Parthia & the Sassanids in goings on back then, Arabia and the rest of Northern Eurasia between the Nomadic tribes... that would be great ideas for up next in the near future for Summer projects to make. And even one about, did Rome's trade with India actually destroy the empire's economy? Because Rome's desires for silks, spices and other previous goods were traded mostly with their own gold & silver coinage and bullion to India, that eventfully dried up over time in just a few centuries since the days of the republic = till the crisis of the 3rd century with the inflations & debasing of their coins... due to shortages, and the mines running dry. That situation was never fixed till the Eastern Roman Empire's time under Justinian and after, due to diplomacy in exchange deals between them... and monks stealing silk worms from China in making their own industry of it all back home in the empire. Pompey the great's backstory in history from beginning to end = with his campaigns against the Crete pirates + his involvement in Spartacus's late rebellion, the last remains of the Seleucids in the east and the Jewish state of the time. As well as Sulla, Crassus and more on Marius too. Maybe try this for future vids please Kings & Generals? 👌😎😉 Thanks again for all your hard work over these many years ongoing! 👍✔ Keep up the great work.

Alexander was the MAN. Imagine the horror of war, the politic game, the citizens and the army's of that huge empire, the time spent getting shitdone, familly drama, his own guilty pleasures, training his boddy and mind and still going for more.

I think Alexander’s decisions were mainly practical because realistically if he lived and died of old age and his son succeeded him then having an internal cultural divide would have made ruling difficult. Also him trying to what seems to be force the blending of Hellenic and Persian cultures rather than a gradual integration would understandably infuriated both peoples because they were the conquerers and conquered and resentment on the side of the Persians would be realistic. Though with the introduction of Persian soldiers be adding to the army so short after the final conquest especially in the number of 30000 which was essentially 3/4 or 3/5 of the initial size of the whole starting army and also adding them to the companions who had not grown up together as the sole Macedonian companions would be strangers who many would have seen as not earning their place. Though introducing a conquered peoples into one’s army is always going to happen and some point having them separate and having mixed squadrons and infantry battalions over time would be a possible better solution with maybe keeping the core Macedonian infantry nucleus with Persian missile and cavalry troops keeping the combined arms approach of introduced strategy.

I wonder if Alexander lived longer and left a offspring ( likely to spread like wildfire, as everyone would wanted to have marriage bounds with Alexander's blood) his workship as a God may had become a true established world religion. Basically like Christianity and Buddhism, but with a warrior-god figure instead of a philosopher/sage god figure

After reading Duverger on Hernan Cortes, I see Cortes and Alexander the Great as quite similar. Conquerors larger than life that seeked a mixing of cultures. It would have been interesting for Alexander to have lived longer to enact his policies more.

Its hard to look into ancient times before abrahimic religions eith modern lenses . I dont think loving another man was a big of a deal back then . Infact it would have been considered more normal than loving a woman since they only mated with women and didnt consider them partners.
