I did this trail a few years ago. It was a lot of fun. The ledges are not very steep and are pretty wide. It wasn't very technical and can be done on a stock jeep.

One of our favorites. Not difficult, but a great trip from Central City to St Marys Glacier. My wife even came over and watched you video. Great video. Was wondering if you could still see the pickup that rolled on to the south of Little Echo Lake. It was just a ball of metal. Glad the mailbox is still there. Before 9 11 there as a box there for notes, and even back then you had to add a rock to the area. Thanks a lot for the memories.

This was out go to trail for a quick trip from Denver. It was fun either direction. The old pines on the south are fun to explore and the north side has great views. The rock shelter overlooking Loc Lomond where everyone adds a few rocks to the structure, but I don’t think the mailbox was there? There was also a completely rolled up pickup on the left side of Little Echo Lake that had rolled down there about 25 years ago. It was there all the time we drove the road. thanks for the memories. We haven’t been in there since we loft Colorado in 2010.

I moved to Colorado in 1992.Rode my dirtbike up there many times.So that mailbox has been up there since the early nineties.Not there as a 9/11 memorial.But if that brings back memories of 9/11 thats fine.Its a worthwhile trip for sure. Very beautiful area and views.

It's no joke. In 1984 I was in a roll over off Gold Camp Road near Victor CO. That was a long time ago and I still have PTSD, though I still go off roading. My wife who was also in the accident won't go off road at all. We free fell for 80 to 100 ft is what the police report said. Then flipped end over end, then rolled. At some point I was thrown out and knocked out. Anyway, 4 people and we all survived somehow. Driver two bones in arm broke, passenger cuts and bruises, me 14 inch laceration of back to kidney with 2 surgeries, cut ear, arm, leg, and head, and severe concussion; wife 8 broken ribs, broken sternum, 3 broken vertebrae, punctured lung, 4 teeth knocked out. Be careful with those ledges!

I forgot to say I did the Loch Lomond trail this week in a stock 4Runner TRD Off Road. It was rough but I felt safe. I'd say a total of maybe 100 yards or less of drop offs on one side. Otherwise mostly in the woods. I'd recommend it with a high clearance 4wheel and go slow, but not with an average stock cross-over.

Those Jeeps look like they ride pretty good. I've been an off-road guy for years (dirt bikes and SxSs), but I'm thinking about getting back into a Jeep. Is the ride in these modern Jeeps like riding in a paint shaker or is it tolerable? I like the idea of being able to make a loop without always having to head back to the trailer. Thanks.
@Trailsoffroad
@Trailsoffroad 10 ай бұрын
Depending on how you build our Jeep, they can ride super smooth even while off-road. It is important to do your homework first so you don't have to do it a 2nd time.

See our other comment on Chicken, but we can't recommend traveling alone due to the risk that comes with it. Off-roading is inherently dangerous in nature.. But there is a lot of ways to find people that want to do the trails. Facebook might be the easiest. We have found a quick post on Facebook in local groups almost always gets someone wanting to do the trail. I hope you have fun, let us know how it goes.
