Great video. More arcade companies should use something like this and not the cheap stuff they pan handle

the biggest problem is that price, that is not just that, and it requires the storage, heatsink, fan and the power adapter, no free international shipping, so that price means nothing at all, but looks nice on paper, if that counts
@kiodiekin
@kiodiekin 3 ай бұрын
typically if ur in the hobby u already have storage just like any other device. u typically already have a psu the only other thing needed is the heat sink for 6.99 its not a bad deal at all.

I got mine with the fan, used my Pi 5 power supply, and connected my own USB3 Batocera drive build, and it was up and running fast. (Note: Without the CR1220 RTC battery, it can take a while to boot, however) Basically, it's still cheaper than my Pi 5 (Which also needs storage, a fan, and PWR. Most SBCs are sold like this) and it way exceeds what my Pi 5 can or will ever do emulation-wise. (It also runs Windows 10/11 with far fewer issues.)

What are your thoughts about intel nuc minis . do you think the cost to benefit ratio makes it better , or would that only be if your getting one at a decent used price .

What chip is it using?

Its way too cheap for $40, I think it's a bait, they sold those profit free, low batch, to gain popularity, and once those are back in stock those will be like $60-80 EDIT: What a clickbaiter, and radxa trolls, it doesnt come with the heatsink which is pretty much mandatory and sells for like $15 lmao

The chips r kinda old now. They have been discontinued. The heat sink is only 6.99

I don’t remember all of him, but I did do a live video on it a couple of months ago. You can check it out. I’ll probably end up reposting clips from it. It was comparing this unit to the raspberry pi five.

Kiodiekin I have one of these boards and when I plug power to it only the fan spins. Im using a pi 4 official power supply is that not enough? Do you think my board is DOA?
@kiodiekin
@kiodiekin 3 ай бұрын
No, it’s not enough power the X 86 processors require more power. You need the one from the pie five or get the radxa to exclusive power supply

I'm afraid that I found this piece somewhat disingenuous. The $39.99 entry price is mentioned quite a few times, despite the fact that cooling is going to be pretty much mandatory, which means adding $9.90 straight away. This is also before adding any other options, such as power supply wireless and storage. It is the 8Gb model that is actually being demonstrated here, where something like the 2Gb is going to be an absolute no no for something like Windows and with no indication as to how only 2Gb RAM might impact the other capabilities. All in all, if you were to compare this full built with some N100/N95 mini PC's, I feel that this might not seem to have the value that it initially attempts to indicate. The J4125 is now nearly 5 years old and whilst eminently capable for some uses, what we can find now would indicate that the price differential between old and new processors and devices can be rather small, resulting in questionable value for the old. Comparison with the likes of the Raspberry Pi 5 and Orange Pi 5, where the additional GPIO and other I/O options not found on a mini PC has more rationale but which is not related to the demonstrations shown here.

the cooling is 6.99. the powersupply is the same as a pi 5 if u already have 1. thats standard for any sbc is to purchase or already have a power solution just like an sd card or some form of storage unit. just like a raspberry pi 5 if we use that same logic then everyone one should be listed at $127 approx. for the 8gb model. i mentioned the price i paid for this was 69.99 but keep in mind theres no need for heavy robust development here like buying an arm chip. for the same price point as an arm based device. this is very reasonable and outperforms most arm chips in the same price category.

@@kiodiekin N100 mini PC's are ~ $149, have 8GB RAM, a case, an HDMI cable, 128GB nvME SSD, power supply, Wifi 6, integrated heatsink/fan, an HDMI cable, and usually a VESA mounting plate (see Chuwi Herobox). Plus, the N100's are almost twice as fast as the J4125. Your comparable setup is : Radxa 8GB - $70, Power supply $10, Wifi module $10, Heatsink - ??? (can't find price, assume $10), some sort of case say $10, 2' HDMI cable $8, 128GB SD card (name brand) $8, for a total of $126. The N100 system will be almost twice as fast on processor-based programs, and the igpu is also going to be faster on the N100 (if you care about 3D). The pricing difference is only $23, and thats assuming that you can find all of those parts at the same store and only get hit with shipping once, AND you're trading off the SATA-SSD in the N100 for a MicroSD card, so disk I/O on the N100 will clobber the X2L unless you pay more for a better drive (note that the Herobox mentioned actually has a 256gb M2 drive)
@glenndoiron9317
@glenndoiron9317 3 ай бұрын
What I'm trying to say is, the X2L is a Pi5 competitor, but there's no reason to buy it (or a Pi 5) with the low cost N100 mini-PC's that are available.

@@successfulrepresentative6400 The N100 comes with all of those items in the same box... ? You only pay shipping once. These are all parts you need to use the devices. If I see this and I don't have those spares, its going to cost me as much as the N100 to get an equivalent rig.
