I always thought it was weird how the chamberlain sounded a little different in terms of speech pattern and pitch when talking to the gelflings as opposed to the other skeksis - then I found out that originally the skeksis had their own language with their dialogue being provided in subtitles. When the chamberlain spoke to the gelfings in English, it was him basically speaking a non-native language that he'd learned since arriving on Thra. That means the chamberlain both knew the gelfling language and was smart enough to use it to try and manipulate them into being captured. It's why the line 'Give us the shard and you can go free' is even more chilling because you really get the sense that the Chamberlain's manipulation game is always on point. Love this movie, chamberlain is MVP of evil in my opinion - definitely the most clever of his group.

Omg him in the show just makes your comment even more valid , yes he was a huge manipulator and one of the main reasons for the geilflings extinction. He definitely talks to them in a lower, earthly tone. Compared to his regular sinister, high pitched whine. Some people call him the clown and outcast of the group but he really is the smartest of them all and the show really amplified that for him!

You can be purely evil without the violence like SkekUng promoted. Chamberlain was easily the worst IMO. Articulate and intelligent and a master manipulator. Only reason he wasn't Emperor was because he showed his hand twice being greedy. Trying to grab the dying and than dead Emperor's sceptre.

My mom took me to the 40th anniversary and for years made fun of this movie only seeing pictures and dreaded taking me to see it… however, she was practically standing at this part saying “save the crystal, save Kira!!!” Then I look over after the UrSkeks ascend and she’s sobbing saying she wants to watch it again!! She loves it now! The magic this movie brings will live with me forever

4:04 I love that one shot and I just have to wonder how much of a nightmare it was to coordinate this entire sequence. You got all of these large puppet characters all running around as well as the castle falling apart. And that forward moving shot is so cool as the urRu slowly get into place.

Its sad seeing this after watching the series. The Gelfling are all but exstinct. Their consumed souls, their "essence" cannot return home to the afterlife, or even see Jen healing the Crystal and all of Thra.

im pretty sure with the crystal healed and the urskeks reformed, the gelfling "souls" are returned to the normal life cycle. this is kinda evidenced by the land being restored cause it withered because of the imbalance the skeksis caused with draining essence

I don't like how the Skeksis just automatically lost their evil individuality. It doesn't feel right that, after a thousand years of individual memories and personality, they could simply fit back with their Urskek counterparts.

The Urskeks mention that it was their fault the crystal cracked. Meaning whatever evil, arrogance and ambition that the Skeksis feel, was already lingering with in them before and after they crack the crystal.

0:56 , 1:10 , 1:32 and 1:50 I love how the Skeksis were begging Jen not to heal the Crystal, despite just killing his one true love. Like he’d listen to them at all after that. 2:50 It almost sounds like SkekOk either says “Oh, the UrRu, oooh!” Or “Oh the Horror, oooh.” I can’t quite tell which. 2:31 , 3:32 and 4:03 One of the many ways that the UrRu and Skeksis were obviously polar opposites is that the UrRu wanted to return to their true and whole forms, while the Skeksis feared that above all else (other than death.)

She did die , she was already close to death as they drained her somewhat. But having her come back looking 10x better?! It’s awesome. The UrSkeks also gave Jen and Kira immortality to watch Thra for a very long time, there’s comic books for afterwards that show them humbled, old, & chilling behind a curtain behind the Crystal for many years. It’s pretty dang cute.
