I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

What if the goal was never to cash out the bitcoin, but instead make it seem like it was being laundered, and the reason it's sitting spread out across multiple exhanges is for the purpose of market manipulation? With amounts that large, you would be able to pump any coin you wanted, if you didn't care about losses on the accounts with stolen coins. Not to mention the tag alongs would end up holding some of the bags, thinking they were trading legitimate price action. You could coordinate to trade in the same coin pairs, and with outside crypto and clean wallets move the value without a direct link to the dirty coins. Just food for thought.

So did my friends who found out about it. Back in a day you could mine hundreds if not thousands of BTC a day... But at that point there was no real value anyone could perceive in it. The only thing you could buy with it was drugs on Tor network. But even that was sketchy af, because we were young and even if we wanted to try ordering something it was too scary to even attempt such thing being delivered to your address so, I stopped mining. I bet that my wallet alone would account for a small percentage of all of the BTC market. Unfortunately, that wallet could never be recovered.

Again, to be clear, since your reply seems to indicate you didn't understand, people in crypto do not remember or discuss this. This is why it's weird and why I mentioned it in the video, making your comment about other people not applicable. As other hacks are discussed, frequently, and widely known in the space. This one isn't. Meaning it has nothing to do with how losses are handled.

I've been making a lot of looses trying to make profit trading. I thought trading on a demo account is just like trading the real market. Can anyone help me out or at least advise me on what to do?
@Jeffrey_Ambrose3 ай бұрын
Trading on a demo account can definitely feel similar to the real market, but there are some differences. It's important to remember that trading involves risks and it's normal to face looses sometimes. One piece of advice is to start small and gradually increase your investments as you gain more experience and confidence. It might also be helpful to seek guidance from experienced traders or do some research on different trading strategies.

What if those new wallets that were created are owned by other people? Maybe they sold most of the bitcoins on the dark web in exchange for eth , usdt or anything. Like they opened new wallets , receieved those eth then sent btc to other wallets owned by the people who exchanged eth for it. then repeated the cycle with eth to btc again and again. Which made their total profit 100 million instead of 980mil but also made it almost impossible to track. (talking about the small wallets)((u never know how desperate some people are to make easy money without questioning where it came from))

It may be as simple as the original hackers no longer having a decent chunk of those funds - could they not have spent it at places that accept bitcoin? This would also explain why so much is sitting in exchanges…

Ok, recently I've watched a video about one of the largest bank heists in Japan's history and one detail from it may explain a lot here, so here's a speculation of mine: The entire hack might have been done within Japan's borders and possibly investigated by only Japan's law enforcement. That could explain why during the exchange of stolen coins only people from Japan who've purchased those coins were arrested. Going back to the video I mentioned earlier, apparently Japan has a 10 year period where they can investigate and persecute people for the crime. After that period, law enforcement drops the investigation and people responsible for the crime can't be persecuted and still can keep the money. That makes me believe that hackers (probably working in Japan) are simply waiting for the case to expire so they can legally cash out all the funds. And all those transfers are done only to make the investigation hard and decrease the chances of finding out people responsible.

it's not crypto itself that does, it's the custodians
@MikeGaruccio6 ай бұрын
Possible explanation here is that it’s not the hackers sending coins to the exchanges - they could have done a lot more, lower profile, swaps for other assets, or leveraged defi marketplaces, or even done things like funding NFT projects that would have let the funds eventually land with someone who could plausibly claim they didn’t know the funds were stolen, nor the actual identity of who provided them,and weren’t under any obligation to do the research required to figure that out.
@KiraTV16 ай бұрын
The bitcoin was collected into a handful of addresses and the filtering to new addresses is entirely consistent with every other hack you can see with analysis. Most of the bitcoin you can see sitting at an end location as of right now, so that isn't a plausible or possible explanation unfortunately.

What if they are waiting for the statute of limitations to run out, I checked and its only 15 years in Japan or 30 years if the crime is punishable by Life imprisonment. So in 9 more years they can freely spend the cash and who knows how much its going to be worth by then billions maybe, that kind of money has a lot of power attached to it
