0000 steel wool is best for removing the rouge residue. As a final step, I use automotive paste wax. The wax seems to seal the aluminum and virtually stops it from going dull in the future. Great video! Thank you for it!

I have found some fine grade steel wool (0000) to help remove some of those stubborn spots. Nice job, and great machine! I have a 519 (1959) and a Diamond Edition (2005).

Matt Jones Yes! I have been using that in the last couple of Kirby,s. Yes it's amazing. Thanks for the tip though. Someone else recommended it and I use it with the mothers mag and aluminium polish and it works perfectly

Matt Jones I'm over visiting the states in November visiting friends in Buffalo. I'm going to be looking out for places where I can buy Kirby micro fibre bags and bags in general for my other vacs. Any places, chain stores or the like where I could get hold of these?
@mattjones76217 жыл бұрын
Not sure about a chain store, but you should find them, easily, at a Sew & Vacuum outlet, vacuum cleaner sales and service, etc. Also, I highly recommend this website for all Kirby needs: www.kirbyneeds.com.

Matt Jones Thanks Matt, I have been doing some googling and there's a few places in Buffalo I will get in touch with beforehand.

The can’t clear coat them. Once the metal is polished to that super high mirror shine it’s also super smooth almost like glass. So because of that the surface offered nothing for the clear coat to stick and bind to which would allow it to peel and flake off very quickly and easily. Even with the most minor of bumps Into furniture.

That's so true, shame.

Gonna have to invest in a buffer me thinks, the shine on that G4 is fantastic

Brings back memories as a m8 of mine had a Kirby shop in stoke and he used to polish them in this way but he used AUTOSOL which is what I use. He did them this way cause he pulled them all apart to service them. I use a mini angle grinder with polishing pads as there Velcro backed and easy to change and you can polish the Kirby without stripping it down too much. Kirbys do go dull within about 6 to 12 months so its a pain to totally strip them down just to polish them.

dyson37 I agree about future maintenance, I don't have the small dremmel tools yet, but I will get some for future upkeep of the Aluminium. The majority of my Kirby's were in a bad way needing replacement parts and complete overhaul, now in the future it will just be light maintenance thankfully

Talking of dremmel. Did you know the sentria 1 has a handi butler which is a air driven dremmel.

What the heck do people do with them. Forty four years without a repair. Just brushrolls, belts and we replaced the fan when Kevlar fans became available and we're determined stronger than metal.

Thanks for the video. It's was really helpful to me

You're very welcome. I'm glad it's helped, I think it's important to keep a bit of history, no matter how insignificant, alive and looking good!

Insignificant? It's just the sixteenth model that Kirby ever made that's all!😂😂😂

Do you know what site you got that polishing guide from?
@HooverLux5 жыл бұрын
Oh gosh, it was a few years ago now, it I just did a Google search and copied and pasted information onto a word document to create my own list. I use it to this day.

Oh you made that yourself? Wow, that's a quality job mate, thought it was some big chart you just printed off Google Images and laminated.

When your using this machine try not to use gloves because the gloves could get caught in the machine.
@HooverLux5 жыл бұрын
Oooh yes, if I’m using the grinder or the wire brushes I definitely try not to use gloves on it, but when polishing I’ve never had an issue with it catching and pulling my gloves as it’s kinda soft and non catchy. I do use now the rubber disposable gloves for safety. Thank you for the advice my friend 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

No problem

Yeah, when using the wire wheel, the little wire whiskers will hook into the gloves like nobody's business and pull your whole wrist and hand in there. No need to use gloves with the buffer wheel, it's just cotton and polish.
@HooverLux5 жыл бұрын
I’ve had that issue to begin with when I was using gloves and a wire wheel drill bit, now I take it very very slow and careful with using wire wheels and the drill.
