Kirby G6 Whole House Cleaning

By popular demand, here's the first in a series of whole house cleaning videos requested by you the viewers. Next on the list will be my early 70's Hoover Convertible. And I'm dedicating this one to Mike from Finland since he broke the three way tie...and he has a G6 too.

G6 is a amazing vacuum and your transmission upgrade is fantastic. So quiet now combated what it normally is. Vacuuming with the Kirby is always a special moment. Thanks for the video.

Nice G6! I had one myself that I rescued from buying it completely beat up from a pawn shop in my area, and with a new oblique stiff brush roll, fan, and transmission selector switch, I was able to get it up and running and I used it for a while until I sold it for a Diamond Edition. I do miss that thing and it will always be one of my favorite Kirby machines (apart from the G5).

The G6 was the first to offer increased filtration and also debuted a new redesigned mini emptor for increased airflow.

You totally should, and of the older Kirby Generation Series would practically perform exactly the same as the newer ones.

I’ve recently put a 50ft cord on my sentria and plug it in one floor and I don’t got worry about cord length its nice but it dose not fill the cord hooks.

The little nozzle you said is worthless that strains the motor is actually a blower that used to blow up, blow off etc.. the massage brush is actually a brush to fluff carpet example in front of couches, middle of stairs that get Flattened and don't hold their fluff, Also to vacuum over dogs fur. And the the then tool to get into Crevices The brush is used for the metal part in windows also on baseboards top of door frames etc. thanks for showing us how to use the blowing part of the Kirby for paint too.. I forgot about that part. Awesome video

That tiny nozzle actually hurts the vacuum so much, Kirby now says to use it only for short periods. Very short. It essentially creates a temporary clog and overheats the vacuum.

I finally decided to try the transmission upgrade, and it’s amazing. I bought a $5 Sentria and used the gears and handle hook from it on my Gsix. Loving using to again.

One day I'm going to update and get a self propelled Kirby. I've been pushing a Classic Omega around for forty four years. The larger brush nozzle is actually a wall brush. They're great on drapery too. Because of the hose setup I've found it most effective to move all of my furniture to the center of the room that I'm cleaning and I clean behind everything first. Then I put the powerhead on and vacuum the carpeting.

A few years ago, I used the "wall brush" and was somewhat underwhelmed cleaning dust from latex painted walls. I found that a Swiffer did a better job. BUT, then I started using it on all sorts of fabric (pillows, cushions, etc.) and have been very impressed so far.

fantastic video, KIRBY is my favorite brand in the vacuum industry :) I do have one question, have you ever had a burning smell come from a Kirby vacuum? (like burning rubber?)

I have had a burning smell only under two conditions: 1) new belt was required and 2) the armature needed replacing. Do you have a Kirby that is exhibiting a burning smell?

I do not but I did have one that did 5 years ago and we gave it to a friend because it was to much for a small apartment we moved into. but I was wondering if it was just our unit or if it was common to have that happen? thanks for your help

Do you shampoo your carpets? They look so nice!!

No more than once a year. But I do use my high airflow Kirbys periodically and they can get most of the deep down dirt that can discolor carpets.

I'll have my favorite vac follower on KZbin know I got a G5 from a yardsale today. It's really dirty on the outside though and needs cleaned. What do you use to polish and make them look good. Help me help me.

Thomas Rectenwald I use three things depending on how badly scratched the finish is. First steel wool, then Mother's Mag & Aluminum polish, multi-stage sanding and buffing with a drill kit if necessary. Good luck!

VacLab I have seen several people use mother's mag aluminium polish. Mine doesn't seem to be scratched it's just caked with dust. The seller said it sat in his grandmother's house for a long time.

you know the kirby starship care system cleaner machines has a focus airflow and suction. it does vacuum and shampoo. my Ultimate G Diamond Edition does tackle my starship extremely well. that it did. I really like it alot.

Thanks for the inquiry! Based on the responses, the Hoover Convertible gets the nod for the next whole house cleaning. BUT, right after that, I'll do the TurboPower 5000. Actually, I can't wait to use it because I rarely break it out of its basement hiding place.

I picked up a "free" Kirby G6 from CraigsList. Nice. I polished it up and got all the built up stuff out of the unit. I find the suction is a little less than a SEBO canister unit that I have. I use these vacuums for cleaning a church on the weekends. We'll see how the unit holds up. I am a little disappointed in the units ability to pick up stuff and debris from the church carpet. The carpet is very short nap. Sometimes I have to go over and over the area to remove loose paper or stuff. I think if the suction was better - it might perform better. The brush seems to be making good contact with the rug. I don't know.

Do u think you would have a higher nozzle CFM with a shorter power cord?

Maybe, depending on the resistance of the extra 18 feet of power cord. Probably around 1 more CFM or so.

Someone left one of these out by the trash cans at my apartment and it works just fine. I've been wanting a kirby for 4 months now but couldn't afford one. Excited to upgrade all of the parts for it. What kind of transmission alteration did you do? You said you cut something, a hole?

I changed 2 gears and a belt to slow the G6 down. Newer Kirbys have this change as standard. I think the changed first occurred in the Diamond edition.

@@DJR5280 if your carpet is at least medium pile or taller and of a flow-through variety, a high airflow machine like a Kirby or Royal with clean best. Kirbys are available very cheaply used. Think $50-$100 for a 2-3 year old model. But, you have to search for them. I just picked up a 2008 Sentria with tools and shampooer for $25 from Facebook.

Aye what sorry no MONTH (I mean *not* year- 😊 year is on the machine handle) is that bought I'm eleven days after nine eleven happened as of naval family also BTW is that available for my familys model "the Ultimate G series Diamond edition"? Its from 2003-2006 before the first sentria came out...its the one where you have the WHITE polypropylene H11 CERTIFIED HEPA so the regular Ultimate G series as well as rthe G6 have this sorta uhh its really not that easy for me to find available its not even made any more it is thee H10 certified Brown paper micron magic HEPA filtration bags that which at first glance youll probably be noticing the first thing IMHO that's the "NEW &/OR IMPROVED HYGENIC BAG COLLAR" aka the "S shaped SLICE over the previously normal/round HOLE" in the "Vacuum bags inner disposable bags Diaphragm- Reduces the POOF factor when changing disposable Bags" And the main differences told to me from Kirby were the in either ultimate G series (early 2002-mid to late 2003) or ultimate g series Diamond edition (mid to late 2003- around April maybe it was Julyidk soemtiem 2006) also the IMPROVED OUTER "PERMANENT" BAG (tbh I've replaced this on the eleventh year of having this vacuum since it was brand new/when I was three or four years old at 13/14 yrs old and the cord as we L but hey at 85$USD (outer bag for ultimate g series Diamond edition Kirby) and oh I wanna say probably aboud theory two or thirty five is what it was either for the new "Volex" brand Kirby cord genuine 32 foot or else it was just 35 and it was just for thee brushroll new replacement one that had just a quote I had down on it... I can't believe they had wanted to trty an sway my mom to pay MORE for the vacuum than what we got it was nno more no less my mom says she refused out straight up and down to that man that she owudl have I t for One Thousand (united states dollars) that's heat it was back when we lived back down in San Diego California rented a house it was 9230 irongate lane I was 3-5when I was there,..so three years we had lived in that house twjas a rental but now we've gone up to been in WA for about a decade or so was just barely turned six right after parents bought the house here... So anyways looping back to the conversation sorry didn't mean to dreift I'm special needs/autistic,HFW,I have autism,aspurgers, ADHD an I'm hyperactive. I suppose or at least that's heat I'm toldim supposed... But hey at least IMHO I'm lucky as much as I was/am for the situation..
