Kirby G4 Whole House Cleaning

My first Kirby G series machine. The funny thing was that I thought all G series vacuums would "handle" the same...wrong! I don't miss that nifty transmission whine in my upgraded G6 and of course Sentria II.

My favorite Kirby model - the G4. I bought mine new - so that (partially) might be why it's my favorite. I have several Kirbys - Omegas, Classic III's, a Sentria, and a 514 model - all but one has the complete attachment set (with shampoo systems and Handi-Butlers). However, the G4, for me, has it all - performance, ease of use, useful attachment set, and appearance. Very glad that you have enjoyed yours!

This is amazing, it looks absolutely brand new! The only G4’s I can find are heavily used and worn .

gilmon43 oh, this one was a total wreck. Many hours of sanding and polishing later, it looks as you see now. 😀

Well, I'm running out of vacuums to use for them. I'll have to see what else is out there at the thrift stores. Been looking weekly for the last 6 months and nothing interesting has popped up yet.

Hey Vaclab, , I am thinking about buying an Avalir 2, and I guess first I am wondering if you think they are a good upgrade from previous versions, and secondly where do Kirbys excel? airflow, agitation, suction? Thanks for any input.

Vacuum Wars any high CFM machine will excel with a medium/high pile flow through carpet. See my flour under the carpet tests. Rubber backed or sealed carpets won't be so great. Dirty air machines have high airflow and low suction. Bare floor performance will also be great.

If properly sealed does the size of the airflow box matter? Should I theoretically get the same results with a small box, large box or no box at all?

It makes me wonder what Kirby has done differently to their new machines to make the tech drive so much more quiet? I can’t hear my avalir tech drive when I push it at all and this G4 is very noisy.

Dannial Williams there are new/different transmission parts (gears) available to upgrade older models to the quieter version. I have performed this upgrade to my G6. Check out the whole house cleaning video and you'll hear the difference.

Great video as always, I'm stuck though between my Kirby G4 and my rainbow. Love the power of the Kirby and it excels with my thick pile rugs but love the freshness and versatility of my rainbow, which would you stick with?

Well I have 1000's of square feet of flow through pile carpet, so a high airflow machine cleans best in that circumstance. Are you able to keep them both? I would probably at least have 4-5 vacuums of different types anyway.

Shame you can't use the oblique 152505 brushroll on the G4 it can only use the chevron style thats soft bristled.

You can use any G series brush roll in the G4. The only thing that wouldn't work would be the BPI light.

I just got this vacuum what is your recommendation for new brush roller, vacuum fan and polish? Where do u get those items for cheaper? Also my handle seems to be wobbly in the tab that holds it and vibrating from side to side is that normal?

Fan and brushroll: the standard recommended Kirby replacements. I get everything on eBay. Tighten the upper handle screw (cord hook) to remove the loose-ness.

My Grandma has this vacuum at her house ,but it doesn't have a headlight did you modify all of your Kirby Vacuums that don't have headlights?

Patrick Picanso generally, our shoes are clean. We don't really track in much dirt. But when they get dirty, we take them off and clean them and put on another pair of clean shoes.

What causes my Kirby G4 to make a buzzing noise. The motor and the bearings and the fan are good. I figured out it could be the brush roll that could be adjusted wrong or the belt. Can you tell what makes this buzzing noise on the brush roll.

Kirby might have been something that was cool in the 50 but these days they got so many different battery power tools and light portable vacuums that this thing is Obsolete and too high priced

That's why I only buy them used. I nabbed my Sentria 1 for $25 and that included a full toolset and the shampoo kit.
