Watch our Video on “How to Tie Dress Shoes”
Shoelaces have a disproportionate effect on the overall look a pair of shoes. A poorly tied pair of laces will not uphold the formal dress look that you want in a well-polished pair of shoes. In this video, Founder Kirby Allison teaches you how to tie your dress shoes using the Parisian Knot.
To perform the Parisian Knot, first, untie your shoes. Then, wrap the shoelaces around each other twice to form a strong base. Then, with your left hand, form the first bunny ear. After that, with your right hand, wrap the shoelace around your finger twice and push the shoelace through the middle where your finger was to create the second bunny ear. Once you have gotten the knot tied, you may need to play around with it to tighten the knot and get it perfect.

THANK YOU!!! I’ve watched 3 videos on how to tie the Parisian knot and couldn’t figure out what they were doing based on the angles of those videos. Plus, the instructions weren’t very comprehensive either. Your video was super clear and concise! I can finally say, “I get it now!” I love the Berluti knot and can’t wait to try this one now!

Wow, I’ve been tying my shoes with this knot for the last few months. I have never seen any instructions on the method, just went with what made sense to me. The first part is a setup to a surgeon’s knot which has high friction and doesn’t slip; the second part adds even more friction and makes a very secure, but easy to untie, knot. Glad know it has a name: the Parisian knot.. Thanks for the very clear video as it makes it easy to follow. Also loved the video on the Berluci knot, I’ll be trying that one soon.

I've been using the parisian knot ever since I've watched this tutorial a year and a half ago and it's by far the biggest improvement to my daily morning routine since learning how to button my trousers myself in kindergarten. No joke. I've been struggling with my shoes becoming untied over the course of the day for more than 25 years, always rejecting the standard double knot because of the added bulk. The parisian knot only takes that extra split second in the morning, does the job and looks great. Thanks, Kirby!

I happened upon your Berluti knot vid and promptly went to seek out your other knot techniques. I've found these extremely handy for women's leather oxfords or dressy leather heeled booties that have a lace up front, particularly those that have a leather lace. Although very thin, leather laces can be more stiff plus the rounded shape with a slick surface makes it so that a traditional bow falls out very easily. My point is...I'm glad someone is sharing solutions for the other persnickety dressers of the world.

I've been using this knot for years on kids and adults when their shoes come untied. I have found it also very useful on corsets and bodices when helping my lady friends because it's easily untied later but much more secure.

Nice demonstration of this knot. I switched over to this knot about a year ago, and I no longer find myself retying my shoes several times day. I only suggest that since this is an adult oriented video, and not for kindergarteners, don't talk about "bunny ears". Those are called bights. You form a bight, wrap the other working end around the base of the bight twice, then pass the middle of the working leg through the double loop you just formed to create a second bight. Pull both bights to tighten and dress the bow and voilà! You have zhe Parizien knot.

It's called the "better bow knot" at Ian's website. Most standard shoelace knots fail because they are slipped versions of a square (reef) knot, which really needs to be under constant tension to retain its strength. Effectively, these knots are tied around your foot which is constantly flexing as you walk, so the knot eventually comes undone because the tension goes through a constant cycle of relaxing. The Parisian Knot, however, is tied around a bight in the lace. It is tightened and the tension remains constant. I don't believe it is correct to call this a double knot. A double knot is just adding another knot on top of the square knot which delays its eventually unraveling. The Parisian knot is an entirely different kind of knot.

Hi,Mr.Allison I just discovered your KZbin channel. The first video that I watched was on the parisian knot.I've been trying this technique for several days that you demonstrated, and I still haven't mastered it yet. 1.Double knot-check. 2.Bunny ears-check. 3.Loop twice-check. 4.Pass lace thru-check. But my knot doesn't look as polished as yours. My question to you is,does the width and length of the shoelace factor in the outcome?Thank you.

I use a standard bow knot with the bow looped through on extra time. It looks a bit like a Berluti without the tails threaded through. The knot hasn't come loose on me yet still pulls out easily. It ties quickly too. The problem is, the knot is asymmetric but I've learned to have my laces a little longer on one side.

I've begun to use the Parisian knot , finally solves the age old battle of keeping round shoe laces tied. I saw a video of a woman stylist from L.A. and she insisted that you tuck your shoe laces in between your shoe and your sock to hide it. What do you think? I hated it.
