It was a stroke of genius for Mr. Allison to wear his Kent-Haste 3 button suit so Rubinacci was able to properly compare the Neapolitan style with the English style of suit tailoring.

Good morning Richard actually really love you called it Neapolitan tailoring not Italian because as you soul know there is a huge difference between Naples style compared Florence Milan . Thank you 👍

when kirby got his jacket he seemed a bit disappointed/surprised by the lapel of a real 3 buttons and the tailor immediately said that over time it'll roll into a longer lapel line (akin to a 3 roll 2). Luca immediately pointed to Kirby that he had a 3 buttons and not a 3 roll 2. You can get a 3 roll 2 in british tailoring, Redmayne for eg, and it's very elegant; a bit more italian maybe, but it's not an italian vs british feature.

Well done Kirby - you keep producing high quality work on your own dime. On the other side you are a real brand in classic men’s wear. I have a daily blog called Fare Bella Figura - Make A Good Impression, Be A Sharp Dressed Man on LinkedIn and I reference what I am wearing, WHY and where it came from, so I mention Kirby Allison every blog because of the horn collar stays or Ancient Madder silk tie or the pocket square, etc that I bought from you. Please keep being a leader and beacon in a world which is sinking into the bog of informal function over form, unremarkable, sloppy looking, casual menswear. America is leading the world in the wrong direction but you are doing a great job to hold back the sludge tide.

Thank you, Kirby. When Gennaro Rubinacci founded London House in 1932 he had never been to London but heard that London was the capital of men’s fashion. Today, 90+ years later, it’s the English Savile Row tailors and New York designers who take inspiration from Rubinacci tailors. Vincenzo Attlolini, signore Rubinacci’s head cutter at London House, is credited with inventing the deconstructed Neapolitan jacket. Mr. Attolini believed that to be elegant was to be relaxed, casual, and natural.

45:39 *Correction: The pleats on Kirby's trousers are called pleats. They are forward facing - which is the traditional way of pleating a uniform. And the forward facing pleats is the cleanest look and way of doing them. Hence the use of forward facing pleats on uniforms. Backwards facing pleats are the more casual and modern way of doing them. Wisdom is key here - and I personally only wear backwards facing pleats (the casual version of pleats). Thank you to Rubinacci & Kirby for a very enjoyable viewing!

3-roll-2 button front is not a sign of handwork. In fact, it was first popularized by old American brands like Brooks Brothers and J. Press in the early 20th century, who mass produced all their jackets in factories. It’d be interesting to learn when exactly did the “Neapolitan” style of tailoring begin. People tend to think it’s a really old tradition, but it might actually be a relatively new tradition. If you watch old classic Italian films from the mid 20th century, you won’t see Neapolitan style jackets in them.
@AjejeBАй бұрын
You are partly correct. Neapolitan style is no older than the early 1900s (and only became popular in the 1950-60s). But also bear in mind that most of those movies you refer to were made in Rome. Roman style is completely different vs Neapolitan style.
