So cute when Nanook laughing at the end. I recommend to you the pasta with potato we call it grenadírmars or "krumplis tészta" or if you want something special i offer to you the "tócsni céklával"... Moi! my suggestion of Hungarian food is trying any dishes with potatoes, because I swear, Hungarians make potatoes in so many delicious ways. Either with sausages+eggs, or in a pottage+meatballs, it's really delicious. Also, welcome to Hungary

Here in SanFrancisco California we have a icecream treat called It's it . Two oatmeal cookies with vanilla ice cream in the middle and the entire cookie is then dipped in chochocolate and frozen . This was sold at a place called Playland at the Beach but luckily you can buy it in grocery stores almost everywhere! It is over a hundred degrees here in the Sierra foothills right now and a good excuse to have some icecream . Hope you decide to visit one day and have some California adventures!

You can separate it in several smaller bits, than you don't have to eat it all alone 😉 Those with ice cream are usually a smaller size kürtőskalacs, and they are filled with soft ice cream, totally stuffed, but it's easy to eat. But this is only a touristy thing to do, the traditional ones are like yours are!

Sweets like rétes, gundel palacsinta, zserbó, mákos bejgli, bukta, máglyarakás. Non-meat dishes like túrós tészta with garlic, grenadirmars, kőrözött. But Hungarians are really good in meat dishes like Jókai babgulyás, hortobágyi húsos palacsinta, székelykáposzta, töltött káposzta, pörkölt with nokedli. ...I became soooo hungry. :) Sorry thease are not necessary to translate, you can find those in this form of names. Hi Kirikou and Nanook! You mentioned that kürtöskalács comes from Transylvania and now available in Budapest as well. Well this is typical Hungarian cake and earlier Transyilvania belonged to Hungary so you can buy everywhere in Hungary and where Hungarians live, for example in Transylvania. Kürtöskalács is a really liked sweetness among Hungarians that you can buy on streets or markets. We bake them at home as well and eat them like a shell (snail) because it made rolled up and you can roll down when you are eating it. It is the best hot! 😊

Gulyás leves typically not meet free. It’s the most known Hungarian food. It’s okay, but even as Hungarian personally is not my favourite. Halászlé vagy Újházy tyúkhúsleves nekem jobban műkszik. 😉

My former house-mate ate almost everything with sour cream and pickled fruits such as peaches or cherries. That is supposed to be Hungarian, too, at least she told me it was and she should know as Hungarian. You have your normal food and on the plate you put some sour cream and in an extra bowl the fruits. And then you eat it mixed, a bit from the plate, a bit of fruit... If the food contains paprika (sweet pepper) it's already very Hungarian. Love Nanooks spontaneous pieces of wisdom... "It gets smaller when you eat it... " 😆

We have so much interesting food. For example Túró Rudi. It’s a cottage cheese bar, covered with chocolate. Light, delicious and very healthy. We used to trick small children to eat cottage cheese in this way and get the calcium intake.

Last time I recommended kürtőskalács, and there you are eating it! I want to find out if that works again. I recommend ... hmmm ... kókos, those brown chocolaty balls covered in coconut flakes. Or paprikás csirke nokedlival - but that's not really a takeaway food, you would have to cook it yourself.

Nice video! I somehow suspected that Nanook would be able to eat kürtőskalács every day. :) I suggest you to try lecsó (it's like ratatouille, but without eggplant), which you can make with or without meat. Another suggestion would be aranygaluska, with vanilla pudding (I think Nanook would love it). Regarding the kürtőskalács, we normally eat it by peeling it apart (there is a cut on the side, which makes it possible to tear, like you would do with parenica cheese). Also, the ice-cream filled kürtőskalács has the shape of a cone, so the ice-cream does not fall out at the bottom. ;)

This was originally a wedding cake, no ice cream though. And the original is with plain sugar glaze or sugar plus walnut. No cocoa powder, coconut. Of course, you can enjoy it as you like it. And yes, the portion is a piece of not more than 10 cms. :)

America has a cheap version - the "creme horn" - It's pastry dough like what you see there, except it's plain - no nuts - and filled with sweet whipped cream. They aren't anywhere near that large or interesting lol. The Uuga Buuga Pókember/Deneverember rating was higher with Kürtőskalács. "ice cream" = "fagyi" I thought "jégkrém" was another word, but that seems to be more for "ice cream bars". I would try some pörkölt or halaszlé or gulyásleves.

Fagylalt (fagyi) is more like gelato, everything else is debatable, but I'd call any ice cream that doesn't come in a tub jégkrém.

@@millenniumman75 fagyi typically made with water and some flavour (most of times powder) and usually formed in ball, take in a wafer cone. Gelato is rather milk and real fruits or other ingredients, like chocolate. Can coming in the same form like fagyi, but usually rather they use a machine and shape it in a twisted shape similar to the cone. And then coming both in plastic containers, like Carte D'Or or other brands. You would be surprised how many different flavour you can buy in Hungary! Much more than in the UK! And there are the same kind of ice lollies or, sticks, both milky or watery versions. I believe the most popular the Magnum and Cornetto...
