Nobody thought her protest of Catholic Church child sex abuse was cowardice. They reacted as they were told to by authorities that is was blasphemy, because they'd rather worship some weird old Nazi man in an ornate dress than listen to the God they claim to understand. The vast majority are moral cowards when they run in packs.

I don't think the world thought it was cowardice but rather the world (not the world but the media and those reading/viewing the media at the time) just didn't know how to deal with it. I can't imagine the outcry/negativity and hatred if that SNL episode happened in the day of social media without any context. At the end of the day, her voice and music should be her legacy, not any perceived controversial actions. One of the best voices ever.

@@JTHBS She has not lost her mind. How shallow of you to say that. She suffers from depression related to PTSD from being severely abused as a child from her mother. It has come to a head for her the past few years after decades of keeping it bottled up. She improved after you wrote this but she has slipped backwards a bit recently after a dear friend of hers passed away. She is now, finally, getting the emotional help she has so greatly needed. None of this means she has "lost her mind" as you said. It makes her human!

The brilliance of making a song about England's brutal oppression of Ireland ("your rage is like a fist in my womb"), and the hope for peace and dialogue ("Oh let glorious love be done"), be in the form of a song about a man and a woman. Rest in power to a true artist, radical, and iconoclast whose voice carried the souls of her ancestors with whom she is now reunited.

As an Irishman I truly appreciate your sentiment & while we don't hold any animosity towards English ppl for the atrocities their forefathers committed, at the same time we cannot forgive British government when to this day they still fail to give access to documents in relation to the Dublin monaghan bombing & the role of their military in murder of 120 innocent Catholics in 1970's/80's & how they lied for over 50 years about the massacre of 11 Catholics at ballymurphy with only a pathetic apology by Boris a few weeks ago after an inquest directed that non of the ppl Massacres were combatants, yet British gov & military denied parents of those murdered the truth & had their names desecrated as terrorist taking their pain to the grave.

@@Anonymous-sf5qj wrong, she was not totally insane, and she also dealt with her own child abuse from her mother & also losing her mother when Sinead was 18. "She criticised child abuse within the Church but did not have the guts to name the homosexual fifth column within the clergy as the perps." " criticised" what did you expect her to do to stay silent about the abuse, btw it's never been just the abuse of boys, it's child sex abuse it wasn't committed only by homosexuals, girls were molested by the Clergy as well. You talk as though you think rape is sex, it's violence. She believed in religion inculcated into it by family, maybe you don't know that the 3 abrahamic religions all stem from one, it does and one who think they're better than the other two, a myth they created, she believed so she sought peace in the wrong place, religion. She had every right to renounce her religion or to become a priest if she so wanted and could.

A real Irish artist, like Dolores and many more. This is so heart-wrenching, but so cleverly written about when Ireland was invaded by the British, described in a metaphor as a young couple, the Irish being a young girl who was in a relationship with a British soldier and fell pregnant with him, and he walked away and left her alone heartbroken. ( the official video depicts this, this live version just reflects her pain and heartbreak so much )

Your music has been a comfort during the tormenting bouts of insanity and your life was an inspiration which I always strove to imitate during my brief moments of lucidity. My heart is beyond broken! You paid your dues and the whole world owes you! The world lost its fiercest warrior today. More a man than any man, a great brother in time of need, and a mother/father of the church that was most sorely needed. 2 of the best songwriters☀️Sinéad and KrisKristofferson...What a grande fellow.🤩..He once said Irelands audiences🍀 were his fav and the best to play for....he stood up for Sinead🍀 O'Connor on stage ... even wrote a song about her and the ill treatment she endured for decades... now they are having the last laugh together as she was right about so many things she fought for, as was he ✅️...both way ahead of their time in standing up for the underprivileged and the wrongs of the world again and again...⭐️ In 1992, Kris Kristofferson comforted Sinéad O'Connor when she was booed off the stage at a Bob Dylan anniversary concert for tearing up popes picture which was aimed to bring awareness to the church and ill❌️ treatment of innocent children. Sinéad O'Connor, just 25 years old at the time, was introduced on stage by American singer-songwriter Kris Kristofferson. He later wrote this for her saying... May we all have her courage. May we all tell the truth.🫶 Words to the song are: "I'm singing this song for my sister Sinead Concerning the god awful mess that she made When she told them her truth just as hard as she could Her message profoundly was misunderstood There's humans entrusted with guarding our gold And humans in charge of the saving of souls And humans responded all over the world Condemning that bald headed brave little girl And maybe she's crazy and maybe she ain't But so was Picasso and so were the saints And she's never been partial to shackles or chains She's too old for breaking and too young to tame It's askin' for trouble to stick out your neck In terms of a target a big silhouette But some candles flicker and some candles fade And some burn as true as my sister Sinead And maybe she's crazy and maybe she ain't But so was Picasso and so were the saints And she's never been partial to shackles or chains She's too old for breaking and too young to tame” You were both the best truth advocates we had💯 ...fly high and have fun 🎉playing whereever you are🎵

She wrote this song, correct? If so to me this may be the most touching and most important of all of her work. How this is not sung and played in every pub in Ireland, and even some in the UK is beyond me... I am mesmerized by how the song was crafted. On the surface it is a simple song about an Irish Woman singing to her Englishman lover or husband. But it is actually an allegory to the UK's relationship with/domination over Ireland over the centuries. Simply breathtaking when combined with the beautiful music and Sinead's amazing voice. "Why have you never told me you love me? Why have you never said you are sorry?" We love you Sinead and Ireland, and we are sorry. Please find the healing you need and deserve.

Good for you mister Jim Cambell, I do understand your point of you, but be aware that you are not responsible for your father's "duty", irish people have suffered a great deal, and it's still going on, differently, certainly, but it is still there, tensions between two communities. I , for my part, would like to see the whole of Ireland reunited, that's my wish. I've lived long enough in Northern Ireland to have known what life looks like over there, I can never forget, nor forgive the massacres perpetrated on innocent people who were just eager to simply live decently. My only hope is to see Irish people live freely, on their own land, carry on speaking irish gaelic which is originally their language and keep their own culture. Perhaps, one day battles will be over, but I have doubts...
