I genuinely missed this; PS2 aestethics. Models are still blocky and lighting is simpler, but texture resolution are higher, and overall visuals are smoother. I really love that time where, visual direction weren't wholly beholden to shader and material maps(era before Doom 3, FEAR, and Half-Life 2), so aesthetics has this diorama feel. The funny thing is, apparently (According to the discord and some pre-release stuff), the remaster increased the amount of health and ammo in the game, with no way to turn it back so we have a DOOM 3 BFG edition. I haven't gotten to play the remaster myself obviously but even in the original I felt like I had more than enough ammo and only had to worry about medkits, they really should give the option to play with reduced ammo and health like the og. Original game had difficulty only effect auto-aim, they really should let use choose the original ammo/health amounts and maybe even a hard mode with less resources compared to the original.

@samz86912 ай бұрын
@@KIRKCOLLECTS Obviously I haven't played myself but they did announce the remaster would have more ammo at least. I'm worried it may have a Doom 3 BFG problem. (that remaster *doubled* the pickups of ammo for almost every pickup in the game so you were constantly at max.) It's been awhile but if they were adding more pickups, then imo they should have added a mode with less pickups. It could turn out there's only a few extra pickups in some vital areas (MP5 ammo was plentiful in the original) but I can't say for sure right now and I really think a harder mode should have been included which there is currently no indication of. The Pistol for instance I almost never used in the original so a mode with less ammo where I actually have to consider using it would be good.

It don't like remakes as a concept for MOST games but FF is prime, 5/6th Gen underrated, somewhat flawed-rough games that could actually use it to fix and redo stuff to make a sequel a much more sure thing. So few squad-based shooters with a cool schlocky 80s idea (despite modern geopolitics) that could take its core ideas and improve them so much given how good IOI actually is at shooting mechanics, detail and wide levels. I finished the game last night. I really enjoyed it. I never had the headless bug, but it did crash once for me (AMD Radeon RX 6600 w/ driver version 24.10.1, Ryzen 5 5600, 16GB RAM, Windows 10 Home). The most annoying bug was randomly getting stuck on a curb. Fortunately, most levels have flat ground and crouching seems to fix it anyway. I saw a few characters T-posing immediately after loading a save game, and an enemy T-posing during a cutscene. The most frustrating moment (though not necessarily a bug) was when I was supposed to flip a switch to open a door for one of my teammates- except I was too slow so he ran right back to me and just stood there, and I couldn't figure out how to order him to try again.

So I wanted to update my comment with a more in-depth analysis of this remaster. The first point I want to point out to anyone is the fact this does look a lot better and play a lot better. They kept the atmosphere intact while adding plenty more wow including improved sound effects for the monsters with some more environmental sounds. However there is still a lack of overall sound design and there are moments of sheer quietness that honestly add to the intensity of the environment. The character for Blake controls a lot better although I think the weapon wheel is poorly implemented just because you use the left stick to select both weapons and gear and it just doesn't feel like it responds correctly. Quite often I would find myself taking damaged trying to switch weapons. Probably because of the new controls enemies feel a lot easier to take down but to compensate there are more of them and they have indeed added some new types of thing enemies to the game, and a few of the enemies will respawn every now and then. Ammo pickups have indeed been expanded upon and there are new hidden crates where you can find late game weapons earlier if you look for them. In compensation the early game weapons seem to do a little bit less damage and are less accurate. The squad system is actually fleshed out a bit more and there are very few scripted deaths in the game now however night dive did Implement some cheeky ways to kill off your squad mates if you don't know about those particular triggers. They are not scripted but designed in a way that unless you know about them your squad is probably going to die pretty quickly. The most notable example is the level with Collins- there is a hallway where a body is located next to a flamethrower and if you pass it nothing happens but if he does a bunch of things pop out and attack him causing him to change if you can't defeat them quick enough. He can no longer change in the hallway and can actually be brought into the boss fight but will most likely die immediately as soon as he gets attacked by the boss. The squad strategy is more prominent and certain sections that were hard can actually be easier if you can keep your squad alive but chances are you will put yourself at risk trying to keep your squad alive and fail often or have to experiment with the levels to see what you can get away with and what you cannot. Still it is a great addition to be able to carry your squad through the level even if some levels will not allow you to take your squad through them. Still it gives me a nice feeling trying to get my squad through the entire level alive. Replay value is still abysmal because this game is entirely experience that needs to be experienced once properly but subsequent experiences will damp in a little bit of the enjoyment. There are very few new additions to the core gameplay and while I love the changes the remaster includes, I do see the problems with it being priced at $29.99. The game has plenty of options to make it more difficult and to flat-out remove most of the hood adding to the atmosphere. And I do suggest at least two playthroughs using the modern and classic control scheme. The levels themselves are amazing and the remaster really shows in the revamped rooms and corridors of the complex certain rooms have been enlarged or made smaller with more clutter in them along with new weapons and pickups for exploration. However there is little reason to explore most of the outside areas even if they offer you a particular weapon or item early. The things act almost identical to how they used to and will run away if they take too much damage and they seem to actually engage your companions more frequently now. They do die quite a bit faster in this version and your squad mates seem to be stronger this is probably to compensate for the fact that if they get attacked too many times they turn into a thing. Certain enemies are a priority to take out if you want to keep your squad alive which adds to some of the strategy and the squad AI seems to be relatively the same with some more actions and quips they call out. The game's average length will probably be about 6 to 7 hours and a little longer if you want to keep your squad alive throughout the levels and find those collectibles. For subsequent playthroughs once you know how the game works average playthrough will be about four to five hours. Overall the levels are worth experiencing again and the new systems to the squad mechanics are worth playing around with but may not be worth it for some players. For newcomers to this game I do suggest to buy because the atmosphere and sense of exploration is enjoyable and this is the definitive version of the thing at this point. It is well worth a play through for anyone who hasn't already played it. The original PS2 and Xbox versions we're still some of the best looking and performing games on those platforms and this version enhances that. For anyone who it's already played the thing I do suggest waiting for sale or some updates that add some more content. Trophy Hunters might also like playing this game because there are only 12 trophies and you can Platinum this game in 2 playthroughs unless you know where everything is. My review is if you want to experience it go for it it's worth it but if you have already experienced it go into it knowing that it's still pretty much the same game with some new bells and whistles but maybe wait for a sale unless you're a hardcore the thing fan. If you want to support the devs it would also be worth buying but I do agree even for a hardcore fan of this game like myself $30 is a bit steep. Hope this little mini review helps alongside Kirk's review.

But for Suffering or The Thing yeah they need more enemies. And a few new bosses or two. Even add in a new stage. They did that with SH2 remake right?

Seems so odd on how much I still remember about the locations (you showed) even though it's likely been 12-14 yrs since I last played the ps2 version 🤯 It was fun at the time, but took more memory space that 90% of the other games I played so that was frustrating, but that was the 1st survival horror game I played. I'll have to get the remaster someday soon.

Can't wait to play this. Last time I played it when it was first released. Rented it from blockbuster.

Fantastic review! Next level honesty better than most IGN reviewers! Keep it up! And I’m glad that you’re back! And also are you going to review Forgive Me Father 2 1.0 release?

Played it back when it was on PS2, someone I worked with also bought it. Never finished it due to work. Now at least I can try to finish it... after I finish the other games I have.

This game looks nice, I understand having too much ammo could be annoying in terms of immersion, but after having struggled in another game while thinking I was sparing ammo, well...

John carpenter has stated this is the true sequel to his film. It’s not a what if scenario. He even makes a cameo in the game.

I was playing doom 3 while listening to this video. I miss horror shooters from the 2000s they had a certain edge that we don't have anymore

The original was liked? I remember gaming mags blasting it for simplistic puzzles and how the promise of any team mate being the Thing actually was scripted and didn't change.

Now we need The Warriors 'remastered' by Nightdive on PC.

The price in Poland (PLN) on Steam is 33.44$, the highest in the world. Thanks, Nightdive!

It would probably go on sale for like $10 I would just wait!
@SimplexPL2 ай бұрын
@@FadeToBlood Even on sale, it will still have the highest price in the world In Poland. where it currently costs $34.5. So even on "10$" sale it will still be $11.5 in Poland - still unfairly inflated price.

My problem with the game is that it feels too micromanagy for my tastes. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if all my guys got infected within the first 10 minutes because I'd run off only to look back and realise I'd left 1 or 2 people lagging behind.. and way too often I'm having to babysit grown men with guns because they got scared by some blood. What about me. I'm scared too. Why do none of them ever ask me how IM doing... :(

The Thing on PS2 is the first video game I can remember where they, from the very start, had the medkits with green color themes instead of the Red we had been used to throughout the 90's. I'll still never forgive the Red Cross for that debacle. Totally ruined their reputation with me and all gamers out there.
