You forgot to mention how starting with Sonic Adventure all the way to Sonic Unleashed, Sonic was in a a world (presumably Earth) that was populated by humans (which I guess makes sense because you know….Eggman.) But after that game, the humans were never seen again and is now back in a world that is populated by anthro people like himself, leaving Eggman as the only human to be seen. Well, at least TailsTube does confirm that there is a separate location on Earth that is dominated by anthro people, while the rest of the world is populated by humans. But it still was pretty confusing to think about before that time.

They can’t decide whether it was have the world be established by humans with Sonic and his friends as the only anthros on Earth, or have the world be established by anthro people (Mobius I guess) with Eggman as the only human. They’re just no winning what fits better, which is why the world building in Sonic games makes no god damn sense. At least with Crash Bandicoot, the anthro-mutant characters rome around the world because they were all created in a lab by Neo Cortex and N. Brio by mutating real-world animals. With Sonic, it’s never explained. They’re just……there.

You have it backwards, Nack is the localized name. Fang is the original name. Also, he's a Gerboa acording to his character designer. The thing about Eggman being a feminist was apparently mis translated. He is supposed to be a womanizer.

I want to note that the trend with male anthro characters having limited attire is a general western thing. Bugs Bunny for example only wears gloves. The ages of characters have been removed from the Sonic wiki which means that they could be considered outdated. Plus CD takes place between Sonic 1 and 2.

@@gamerdomain6618 I won’t pretend that CD had some lore confusion in the past, in fact my main source is Sonic Origins, which is fairly recent. I recall a point when Sega retconned Classic Sonic to be a different Sonic than modern, but that has also since been fixed.

I know it explains Tails' absence in CD, but I don't like how this makes Metal Sonic the original robot Sonic while Mecha Sonic MK1 or 2 the later upgraded versions.. then Eggman goes back to Metal Sonic in later games..?? Also I kinda prefer that Sonic first meets Tails over Amy... Oh well. Sonic's timeline is as bad and confusing as Zelda's apparently.

@@eyzmaster I’m basing this information from the Sonic Origins collection, which has cutscenes that tie the classic games in via specific order. I think CD was put in earlier because it shows evolution of gameplay. I can’t say I agree, but I am not a fan of the IDW comics and Prime being “canon”. I generally like how the previous comics and shows were they’re own thing. The latter of which contradicts to the point where I just don’t see it.

About the ages: Maybe that's why they removed all the ages on Sonic Channel, and maybe the characters will all become ageless, so like that they will not have to change when the years pass, and characters can get older but stay the same on voice, personality and apparence, like if they grow up but at the same time not Also, yes, Shadow has technically 2 fathers, Black Doom and Doctor Gerald, technically has a brother, the Biolizard, and Maria was kinda like a sister to him Also Sage and Metal Sonic, even being a robot and an AI, kinda have a father, Eggman call them their children, and Cubot and Orbot casually sometimes are called like brothers to Metal and Sage, in Sonic Colors Rise of the Wisps Orbot calls Metal Sonic his "big bro", and in Sonic Frontiers Sage asks if Orbot and Cubot are like her brothers And no, the "last adventure" that Sonic had before Sonic Adventure wasn't Sonic 3 & Knuckles, games like Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic R are canon to the timeline and takes place after Sonic 3 & Knuckles, technically the last Sonic game before SA1 was Sonic R, just like in real life since Sonic 3 & Knuckles was released in 1994, 3D Blast was released in 1996, Sonic R was released in 1997, and Sonic Adventure in 1998, and Sonic R was the last Classic Sonic game, until Generations released and they decided to continue the classic Sonic universe Now technically since apparently at the moment, the classic Sonic universe takes place at the past of the current modern timeline, that Forces line of Tails saying Classic Sonic was from another dimension, was retconed in TailsTube, saying that "the past is another dimension in the time and space continum", so he still from the past but was called like that because time is "another dimension" (before that TailsTube retcon it was actually theorized that after Sonic Generations, Classic Sonic splitted from the modern era after Sonic R events and started a new universe, leading to Sonic Mania, so Modern Sonic didn't experienced the new classic games after Mania and Classic Sonic would not lead into Sonic Adventure), but since TailsTube retconned that, and it was proven false, Sonic Superstars is Sonic's last adventure before Sonic Adventure, until they release the next classic game that takes place after Superstars, because they'll keep the Classic Universe alive and release more classic Sonic games Sonic CD takes place after Sonic 1 and before Sonic 2, that was confirmed with Origins and was said before Origins release the most accepted theory about Blaze is that 06 takes place BEFORE Sonic Rush, when Blaze sacrificed herself to seal Iblis, and when 06 was reseted at the end of the game to go back on how it was at the start of the game but without Solaris, Mephiles and Iblis, Silver's future was now a good future instead of Crisis City, and since Blaze sealed herself with Iblis into another dimension, with the reset, she was not sent back into the future with Silver but was now in the Sol Dimension as a princess Also, in the Encyclo-speed-ia it confirms that Eggman Nega is in fact from the Future, a descendent from Dr. Eggman (and that is the case for the timeline as a whole, both Rush and Rivals), and not Eggman from Blaze's dimension, Eggman Nega probably travelled to Blaze's dimension in Sonic Rush and tricked everyone into thinking he was from her dimension instead of the future And the Boom series still isn't canon, it's not even possible for it to be due to Knuckles not being on Angel Island, the designs (that could be retconned), all Sonic's friends living on Hedgehog Village on Seaside Island, etc. And it cannot be canon not even on the future, after all the modern games, since Sonic and his friends meet Sticks on Rise of Lyric (or Shattered Crystal), and then she joins their group on Fire and Ice and the TV Show But Sticks is canon, and for now, they met her off-screen probably

the "last adventure" is not known, tecnically, it should be Sonic 4, because Sonic 4 happens before Adventure 1, but who knows if Sonic 4 is still canon, and they never stop releasing classic games, so... we'll never know what is gonna be classic's last adventure, the one that was being referenced in adventure 1, was probably 3d blast, it is considered canon and happens after sonic 3k, and that's an actual adventure instead of a racing competition. That theory about Blaze is wrong, because she was NEVER from Silver's future, that's a common misconception in the fandom, in the sonic 06 official website it says that Blaze IS from another dimension, always was, we just don't know why she is in Silver's future, i guess she visit it? idk.

@@banjo9158 If still canon, it's most likely that Sonic 4 takes place right after Sonic 3, and before later games such as 3D Blast, and Sonic R That's because Sonic 4 IS the return of Metal Sonic AFTER CD in Sonic 4 Episode Metal (and Episode II), with him being reactivated on Stardust Speedway, on Little Planet, after Little Planet's return, since he was abandoned in there after his race with Sonic, so it has to be the first game that Metal Sonic appears after CD, so it has to take place before other classic titles such as Sonic R, since Metal Sonic appears in that game It might be odd since Sonic 4 use the modern designs, but it isn't the first time that the Modern Designs are used to represent or show flashbacks from the Classic Era, in Sonic Adventure there is also Tails' and Amy's flashbacks of Sonic CD and Sonic 2 with the modern designs, in Scrapnik Island from IDW Mecha Sonic has flashbacks from Sonic 3 with Sonic and Knuckles having their modern designs, and in Sonic Prime with Sonic having Flashbacks of Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 with the colored eyes So even tho the classic designs represent their past versions, sometimes they can use the modern designs to the classic era, but it """""doesn't count"""""

The Blaze thing still makes no sense, since her fire powers canonically stem from her being the guardian of the Sol Emeralds. So unless the Sol Emeralds randomly decided to grant powers across dimensions for absolutely no reason, there's no way she should have had them in 06 if it took place before she became their guardian. The most logical explanation is probably that they wanted 06 to be a complete reboot of the franchise and potentially explain what was up with Blaze in the cancelled Silver the Hedgehog game after the fact, but never got around to it.

can't sega just make it a fashion style? nowadays anthro animals not wearing clothes is barely an issue at all and is common now in stuff like kiff (a disney channel show who's main protagonist is an anthro squirrel girl who doesn't wear clothes) so there literally is no excuse or reason for the girls to have to wear clothes while the males don't,can't they just make it a fashion style? and for some reason the female characters in IDW (the characters that originate from there) always are drawn with chests that go a bit more forward which implies that they have boobs (which is weird considering that all the game characters except rouge are drawn with flat chests) that is a thing that makes me not like most of the IDW character designs because they feel more like fan made OCs than characters that would be designed for an official sonic game

The problem is that they unnecessary give the girls chest and then try dresses and stuff to let you know they’re girls. Despite the fact they can just stick to the eyelash thing media does. Which is precious helpful. But like even stuff where it’s literally just regular animals that talk, they still are perverted enough to try and emulate a human chest just because it’s a girl character. But maybe sega can just give the boys some clothes, at the very least pants or clothes that kinda make people look nude

​@@tsarinastevens9447Well the chest stuff makes sense if you think about the fact that they are anthropomorphic female mammals. Female mammals have mammary glands, and if you're anthropomorphizing them, it makes sense to make those glands more human. But that still doesn't mean you have to make the female characters wear clothes. The perfect example of this is Sally Acorn. She just wears an open jacket and you can see her chest. There aren't boobs there but her body shape does somewhat imply boobs. There's nothing weird or creepy about her design, it just looks more feminine, and she has a dressing scheme much more similar to the male characters.

0:54 It's actually the opposite, Fang the Sniper is his true/original/japanese name, and Nack the Weasel is his name, given in America, he is not even a Weasel (at least not in the original version), he is a Jerboa, actually he was called a jerboa and wolf hibrid originally on Triple Trouble's japanese manual, but Fang's creator and designer always, since the beginning, made Fang to be JUST a jerboa, and didn't liked the idea of him being a hibrid beetween jerboa and wolf, and it seems that nowadays they corrected/adapted/accepted this idea since now they always call Fang just a Jerboa, and not a hibrid Also Fang makes a lot more sense, since he has a big fang, and normally Sonic's characters names are supposed to match a characteristic they have

The odd thing is that his original name was probably supposed to be "Nack" or, almost certainly, "Knack" as in the synonym for "Skill". I think the U.S. translation team got some older design document that had the name "ナック" written on it and that's why the American team called him Nack. But the weasel part was their own creation. So maybe his real name is "Knack the Jerboa" but he just puts on other aliases or claims to be a wolf or a weasel because no one is going to take you seriously as a treasure hunter or bounty hunter if you admit to just being a jumping rat.

the sonic folks really like pulling obscure animals from time to time. the protagonist of the murder of sonic the hedgehog is a quokka, and we've now got surge the tenrec and kitsunami the fennec fox in the comics (among others). and of course, before knuckles came about, echidnas weren't exactly common to see in... any kind of media.

@@GamepadStudios Yes, since Archie used the american manuals and everything they could, they introduced the Chaotix, Mighty (and Ray too, but he got separated from Mighty and Mighty joined the Chaotix) and Knuckles togheter, how they were in the american manual of Chaotix Since Charmy's age was "retconned" in Sonic Heroes, and Archie Charmy was already 16 and had a love interest, they decided that he would suffer from Amnesia and start to think and act as if he was 6 years old

I used to love reading the Sonic Heroes character bios in the manual. I read them over and over and even brought it to school to show my friends. Even back then though I was confused as to why Sonic was a teenager hanging out with Tails who was like 8. But, Tails is my favorite and that manual was the first time I learned about his full name, which was super cool. Good memories!

There is a list that SEGA made, in which sets a rules. Its quite an intressting list. Some examples are: female characters have to wear pants, sonic can't cry and game characters can't die. Though the list is more made for the IDW comics, its also a general ''rule'' list for other contributors to the series, and the list is kinda 50/50 when it came to the archie sonic comics.

Here's another oddity about pants: In Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Sonic and Shadow have unlockable full-body Race Suit costumes for 2 Player. These outfits were recently added to the officially licensed Roblox game, Sonic Speed Simulator, but with a notable difference: The "pants" part of the outfits are now gone for some reason.

One odd but interesting is Vector being religious in the JP manual of Knuckles Chaotix, Vector is a religious. Maybe it makes sense since he was looking for a island or "miracles" but the fact that we have a Christian in the Sonic series is kinda cool.

I have a headcanon with Blaze, I think she's originally from the future, but when the timeline was rebooted, she didn't return to her original timeline, she just rebooted into another dimension where she became the princess.

Even in the story of 06 she is still from the sol dimension,the explanation for why she was in the future was cut from 06,her entire character is literally meant to be an alternative dimension counterpart of sonic,most (if not) all her character traits are built with that mind set and are direct parallels to sonic,and plus the events of 06 were erased,so everything that happened in that game never happened,heck in the story of 06 she also isn't from the future so she was never from the future to begin with,so that headcanon makes absolutely no sense

Guess what: Maekawa (the writer of 06) agrees with "Blaze is originally from the future" theory. Rush and 06 were originally supposed to connect to each other in a way, but then 06 flopped, Rush Adventure retconned the 06 connection to some degree, and now everyone's confused. Think of it a worse version of the "is the Shadow we see in SA2 a replica" mystery that got retconned after Heroes? Battle? ShtH? Honestly idk.

Fun with the names- in the SatAM cartoon, they call Sonic "Sonic Hedgehog" as his full name, so he's canonically (I'm that show) Sonic Hedgehog the Hedgehog. The Archie Comics that adapted itself to be very close to that version of the Sonic universe expanded on it so that his full name is Sonic Maurice Hedgehog. Family wise, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog gave Tails parents and SatAM gave Sonic his Uncle Chuck and again Archie went crazy and gave everyone parents. Sonic Underground famously gave Sonic a brother and sister and a mother. I think the only main character to get a family in the games is Robotnik with his grandfather and cousin.

Yeah, from what i understand they used the transition between archie and idw to clean up the sonicverse as a certain former archie writer that will remain nameless made a total mess of the comics to the point where they had to do a cosmic retcon just to purge hundreds of characters out of continuity that said former archie writer now owns due to negligence on archies side. And they went so far that they literally hired the guy who replaced he who should not be named on the comics to write the most recent mainline game. You will certainly never see anything like sonic underground or satam ever again as even the live action movies are under strict guidelines(especially that upcoming knuckles show)

That's not how it works though, there's 2 time travel theories, the multiverse theory, where you travel back in time and creates new timelines, and the theory that changing the past changes the future, both can't coexist, it's literally impossible. so, Sonic time travelling can't create new timelines, so Classic Sonic should have to be Sonic still, and he was changed to be Sonic from the same timeline as Sonic once again. also, as far as Days of Future Past, yeah, there's no new timeline there, the old timeline just changed, so, it's not Multiverse theory either.

My theory to the whole Classic Sonic timeline thing was that there was a timeline split after Generations, like when Classic Sonic went back to his original time. So when Classic went back, he didn’t experience the same timeline that Modern Sonic did. So the "long journey" has to obviously be the last classic era game. Now, by the timeline that would be Sonic Superstars. The closest we've gotten to an official Sonic timeline is from Naoto Ohshima, who, when asked about when Sonic CD takes place, said "Between Sonic 2 and 3, because that's when it came out." So I guess he's saying that the games just take place in release order. Honestly, though, Sonic fans who obsess over "the timeline" are weird, sorry. It's always been pretty clear that the franchise plays fast and loose with continuity, and is just supposed to be like an episodic cartoon, where things don't necessarily always connect seamlessly.

When it comes to 'parents' or reproduction or just how the populace of 'Mobians' (just to classify them I know it's not canon), I as a person who detests organic methods of production have come up with two ideas of how Mobians come to be, especially with the undeveloped potential of Chaos Energy as an alternative force of power in the Sonic universes: 1. Mobians are born from chao that have bene adopted, fully raised and can evolve into actual baby Mobians of the person they were raised by. This makes it possible for the new child to get traits from one or multiple parents. But it has to be a long and strong positive relationship for the chao to extensively not only adapt traits from the person, but full on evolve into their species, hence why they gotta be adopted and not just met constantly in the gardens, it's gotta be nearly 24/7 contact (this also could explain why adopting chao to live in your home isn't done by anyone else except Cream with Cheese since Vanilla would've done that to make Cream) 2. Mobians are evolved animals from Earth that cross dimensions into Mobius for easier life. Chaos energy is very unknown, but we see that it exists across dimensions and worlds, and can be adapted to anywhere for anything. So perhaps some animals are evolved by chaos energy into higher sapience and functioning, and can travel between worlds to go to a place that better fits their new lifestyle, but also can stay on earth to adapt to what they've known. Thus Vanilla and Cream may just be a mother and daughter that evolved together. Of course this chaotic evolution is random like chaos energy, just as how rings in Sonic's world appesr all over the place with no concrete order in why

For the Age changes, Sonic canonically had a Birthday, hence 15 to 16. If that Japanese site for Rouge's age is meant to be after Heroes, then the same can be assumed for her. Chaotix for all intents and purposes got rebooted, so KnuxChaotix info is irrelevant, save for Charmy because of how he had to get... "reworked" in Archie because of the games rebranding him. Basically, he was a prince in his teen years, got trapped in some Eggman creation and brain damaged, then Super Genesis Wave happened and Thanos snapped his fiancé out of existence. I don't know the explanation in game canon, but in some comics (I think Archie), Amy found some kinda magic ring and wished to be "old enough to date Sonic" (paraphrasing) as that continuity's justification for her redesign.

Bean the Dynamite is based on Bin and Pin from Dynamite Düx. Until today, I thought that Bean was a duck since around the mid-2000s. Fang is actually half jerboa and half wolf. SEGA actually mandated that male Sonic animals don't wear pants but it's not a hard mandate as there exceptions as seen in Sonic Prime and The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog. On the other hand, SEGA mandated that female Sonic characters have to wear pants or skirts; that's actually how I realized that Trip from Sonic Superstars is a female animal. Cream was actually going to make her debut in Sonic Heroes but she made her debut earlier in Sonic Advance 2 so Sonic fans would be familiar with her and to make that game feel fresher compared to the first Sonic Advance.

Mephiles The Dark kinda deviates from the naming scheme too, though I suppose because he's not an animal, but simply disguising as one. There's the conundrum of the emeralds in Superstars as they give Sonic and co. special powers, though they're not shown using said powers in later games (though I guess you could argue some of Sonic's abilities in Frontiers derive from that). Classic and modern being in the same timeline also raises the question of where the classic characters went canonically, and why Sonic and co. never seem to speak of them. We do see missing posters for some of them in Generations, making me wonder if something bad happened to them after the classic era ended (maybe Starfall Islands' cyberspace had something to do with it?).

Amy Rose and Charmy Bee originated from a manga that didn't bother with the naming scheme and they just didn't adjust the names when adding these characters to the games.

Loved your video. Nice tone and style. Lots of great weird points about this series you brought up, well done. I just love the whole timeline/parallel world stuff, even if it barely makes any sense. Also the male characters being naked never bother me much, I guess it's just classic legacy elements. Like I never wondered why Donald Dudk didn't wear pants, why the Looney Tunes only wear gloves or why Felix the Cat's always naked while his girlfriend(s) usually wear clothes.

I got a fan theory for why there's so many loop-de-loops. Basically, the Chaos Emeralds radiate beams of powerful energy which loop-de-loop, zig-zag, and go in all sorts of crazy directions, because chaos. Most linger for just a few seconds, but occasionally a very large number of beams will 'prefer' to travel down the same route, creating chaos energy leylines. The most ancient of these leylines shape the earth into towering cliffs, loop-de-loops, corkscrews, and all sorts of wacky terrain. Green Hill is one of these areas with lots of ancient chaos leylines, which is why Sonic loves to run around there. Other leylines aren't old enough to affect the shape of the earth, but they still serve as conduits for energy, which can be harnessed for good or for ill. Many cities are built with lots of suspended, twisting infrastructure in order to draw upon the leylines in the air, which powers the city with a sustainable source of energy. Eggman also builds his bases in locations with leylines, which is why they have so much of the same hedgehog-traversable structures as non-Eggman aligned cities. He can't just create a big lead-lined box with extremely cramped space-filling paths to slow Sonic down, because doing so also significantly reduces the efficiency of being able to draw chaos energy from the leylines. It's a delicate balancing act.

The naming sense I feel wasn't really suppose to be followed strictly since Amy and Tails came soon after with their names, I think it was to emphasis a character like for example "Sonic THE Hedgehog" because he isn't the average hedgehog, so it's a title. As for Fang, Nack was his original name but it was changed because it sounded to similar to Knuckles in Japanese so it was changed to Fang. The pronunciation issue didn't exist in English though so it stayed as Nack but I'm not sure where they got "the Weasel" though. He was always suppose to be a Jerboa or a Jerboa-Wolf hybrid but it could be an idiom for his deceitfulness. Recently they sort of acknowledged that he goes by several names in-universe so technically they're all correct.

The Sonic Forces retcon is no longer canon, Classic is back to being a younger Sonic in the current canon. (You can thank Ian and the other people working on Tailstube for that) As for the timeline, Classic Sonic games take place in the past before Adventure, with the most recent currently released game, Sonic Mania, taking place before Sonic Adventure and explains why Metal is back on the Little Planet in Sonic 4 and why Little Planet is back to having a bad future in 4. Speaking of CD Origns confirmed that CD takes place after 1 and before 2. Tailstube in general is a series dedicated to ironing out the continuity and fixing the damage the Meta Era did to it.

Now i wonder, does Sonic Mania happen after Sonic 3D Blast? Because that's the game where Sonic learn the Homing Attack, but Sonic Mania was said to be directly after 3 and Knuckles, but 3D Blast is also after 3 & Knuckles. and Superstars i think is also after 3 & Knuckles and maybe before Mania? this timeline is a mess.

@@banjo9158 Sonic actually learns the spindash in Sonic 2 (Genesis version) according to the manual. (and if the US manual is taken to account as well as the original story it was invented by Tails as a way to keep up with Sonic) As for Sonic Mania it can't possibly take place right afterward of Sonic 3 because Sonic hasn't met the Hooligans yet. Without a doing a full timeline I would say the games mentioned go Sonic 3D Blast > Sonic Mania > Superstars. A good rule of thumb is unless stated later games come later on the timeline.

@@TheSwordsman100 Spelled it wrong, i meant Homing Attack, as far as the Hooligans, that could be their first canon appearance in the timeline, considering Sonic Triple Trouble is probably not canon, than their only canon apperances would be Sonic Drift 2 for Fang, and Sonic The Fighters, and both could be after Sonic Mania with no issues.

@@banjo9158 Ah OK, technically while similar that isn't "the" homing attack but the "blast attack", think of it like a prototype for the actual homing attack that would be perfected later. As for the Hooligans I doubt that as there would no reason for Heavy Magician to take their forms otherwise and according to Ian Flynn the only official games (as in the actual series not stuff like Sonic Schoolhouse or Popcorn Maker) not canon are Knuckles Chaotix and Sonic Chronicles the Dark Brotherhood.

@@TheSwordsman100 Knuckles Chaotix was changed to be canon again, Sonic 2 master system and Sonic 1 master system are not part of the same timeline as the other games so, pretty much not canon, Sega is not sure if sonic labirith is canon or not. so, it's mostly up to intepretation which game is canon or not, they're mostly up to the table, but i would say is very unlikely for Trible Trouble to be canon.
