What a magnificent interview Maya. I began following Kirsten a month prior to the start of GGR2022. She truly impresses me with her humble and generous spirit. Her perseverance and dedication to sailing and the environment are extraordinary. She cares for her Cape George Minnehaha as if she were family. And her caring concern for others, in particular Tapio’s rescue. To forego and risk her standing in the race for the safety of another was incredible. Her heartfelt concerns for Guy and other colleagues was so heartfelt, and then she was able to comeback and persevere onwards. She is a woman, a person no other can compare to. I was so thrilled for her to place first overall from such a community of excellent, experienced sailors. She brings hope to other sailors, young women in particular. To see how Minnehaha handled the conditions was such a compliment to how Kirsten had restored her. To know that Minnehaha began here locally on the peninsula of the Puget Sound was an even sweeter win. Thanks for sharing your interview Maya. As usual, superb questions, background music and editing. ⚓️ Through your storytelling and like Kirsten, you have inspired and reminded all of us that dreams are important and always possible. ❤

I met Kirsten 2 times when she was preparing for the GGR. Actually I knew the previous owner of her boat Minnehaha, that was Dr Mike Bottomly, now deceased. I helped her take physical possession of her boat in Fortune , Newfoundland; and that was quite a struggle for her because of Covid 19 travel restrictions in place back then The 2nd time I met Kirsten was in Prince Edward Island where she had just completed a huge refit of that boat. Both my wife and I were very impressed with Kirsten; she was humble, down to earth, intelligent and incredibly committed to overcome any obstacles to get to the start line of the GGR. Believe me, her battle to get to the start line was just as impressive as her performance in the actual race. The community in PEI adopted Kirsten and helped her in many many ways, really because they were inspired by her drive and determination. What a champion. Can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next!

Kirsten Neuschafer is a natural born sailor thanks you Maya so much for posting this! Not only did Kirsten win she's the first woman ever to win the Golden Globe award. So followed the race it was awesome to see her take the crown. Says a lot about the Cape George 36 being such a capable offshore boat. Kristen, being so upset over Guy running aground. showed how sweet of a person she really is. She doesn't just think about herself but also for her fellow competitors as well. Just goes to show how much character she has, as she made that difficult decision to go help Tapio out, whether she lost the race of not, that didn't matter She instead chose to help Tapio out, what a great gal as far as i'm concerned from that point on she deserved to win the Golden Globe as far as I'm concerned.
