Regarding pickled eggs. I had never eaten a pickled egg until I was in my 50s and it is quite a regional foodstuff. Here in the Westcountry you will find it in Public Houses and it's eaten with a bag of Crisps. They are actually better if pickled in Malt Vinegar and not the Acetic Acid that the commercially available ones are in. Better from a Farmers market than a supermarket. I haven't had one for over 20 years and I won't lose any sleep if I don't have one for another 20. Actually that is the standpoint of most people today apart from in the Westcountry, parts of the Midlands and parts of Northumberland. Regarding Jam RolyPoly and Kirsten, I do love the way you pronounce that 😉😬 You are right, homemade is best and that looked rather dry. We would serve that with Custard and it is really a school dinners or Nursery type of desert. Once again, not a favourite of mine as I don't really have a sweet tooth. I'd rather have a Bratwurst from a Schnelli or a Rindwurst and Potato Salad. I am very fond of German food and have always enjoyed to visit the Rhineland for a holiday. Maybe next time try Jellied Eels ? 🙄

The seaweed spread,, if it was similar in taste to dried seaweed (Nori) might be OK. However it was educational. I learned that the food item called a “Butty” was a Bun, like a dinner roll, large and soft. I hope i got that right The Tv coverage of the Royal Wedding mentioned that . Prince William ordered a large quantity of “Bacon Butty’s” for his Bachelor party. Those must have been wonderful.. i bet Jorge would enjoy a bacon butty. the whole episode was so much fun to watch. The Branston pickle, and pickled onions, go well with a simple salad consisting of a cheese selection, iceberg lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes and maybe some sliced ham - this used to be called a ploughmans lunch and you could get it all over the West country and probably most holiday resorts. Nowadays a ploughmans lunch is nothing as simple as that, so many tea shops and little restaurants try to outdo one another.

Dear Kirsten & Joerg, you are such lovely ppl. Thank you so much for sharing part of your life with us all. Blessing be yours.
@jackori6685Ай бұрын
My roots are English/Welsh (Father) and German/Russian Mennonite (Mother). HP sauce was always on our table. We ate more of the English foods that were well known in the midlands before the earlyv1950's when Dad emigrated to Canada than German fare as he could not handle spices, except he loved the schnitzel, perogi's with sausage, and cabbage rolls made with barley instead of rice. He often spoke of eating treacle on toast or fried herring with breakfast. His sister came over and made "chips by taking sliced boiled potatoes, dipping them in beer batter and deep-frying them. Mom was horrified and fascinated at the same time. She told dad to eat up and enjoy because he was never getting that again. Dad's mother gave mom her own grandmother's recipe for yorkshire pudding which I learned to make at 11 years old. I taught my 2 children the same recipe. It's a family favorite. I just realized that that recipe has been made by my family for 6 generations.

Cute video! I'm from the US southeast with both British and German roots.. I grew up with pickled eggs at family Easter celebrations. Ours were pink, as beets or beet juice was added to the recipe, which I read is apparently common for pickled eggs in the US. However, I don't know anyone else that eats them, so who knows. My mom said they came from my grandmother's German family tradition. I also read their origin had to do with Lent, as many Christian denominations forbade the consumption of eggs during Lent, but hens continued to lay eggs, and pickling provided a practical way to preserve them until Easter. Our family also had pickled peaches. A very different thing with spices like clove and cinnamon. I didn't love or hate the eggs - ours weren't super strong tasting, but I did like the peaches! Thanks for the memory! We no longer eat them at family gatherings..

❤You two are so creative. Coming up with a unique and thoroughly enjoyable video every single week is no easy feat but you succeed regardless and this week is no exception. Baked beans are considered a must have for picnics and barbeques in the U.S. along with potato salad, but I never thought of having them with toast however I have made baked bean sandwiches. Definitely not a breakfast food though, LOL! Thank you for sharing so much with us. ❤

@Dao. Hi. Same for Canadian BBQs/Picnics/Potlucks. Homemade baked beans & potato salad a must have tradition. Amazingly if 3 women brought baked beans they all can taste different...YUM is how I describe all recipes. Cheers.

@@zoidmo3388 Hello neighbor to the North. That is so true about different recipes having different flavors. Good recipes are coveted by those who find or develop them for that very reason.. The same goes for potato salad. It's all good which is why it's always popular at summer gatherings :)

@@dao8805 ❤you're right, true for potato salad too. Now I'm craving for it lol

When I was a little girl, my aunty used to fry fresh laver in a pan, sprinkled with vinegar and served with bacon... delicious!
@hunkhkАй бұрын
Yes you really need to fry the laverbread with bacon and can add some rolled oats as you cook it. I cannot imagine eating it with cheese and tomato on toast that's the vegan version 21st century version. As a kid we would be it fresh from the market in Swansea that's like almost 45 years ago. I'm sure it's really healthy. How can a chip buttie be considered weird? Haha you guys are cute though enjoyed this. All the best from Thailand. The only thing I never dared to eat is pickled egg all the others are real UK staples. Surely pickled onion is similar to sauerkraut lol

Marmite needs to be very thinly applied, nice on toast with beans or melted cheese. Branston pickle nice in a cheese sandwich, or with a ploughman's lunch.
@KirstenJoergАй бұрын
Definitely prefer it on cheese but not plain on butter even if it's super thinly applied :)

Oh yes, I can see that. We have Maggi in Germany which is more liquid but similar taste and use it in soups as well.

Hi Kirsten and Joerg great video 😀😀. You really need chip shop chips for a chip butty. Also pickled onions are best eaten with something else such as with hams and cheese as part of a ploughman’s lunch. The jam roly poly would traditionally be eaten with custard too xx
