My husband and I have been married 35 years and we have no children. We’ve had a lot of hurtful comments over the years by people. We’ve seen a lot of families with children that haven’t been so great. So, many people think your not happy without children. But life is good just the way we are. Lovely people, We didn't make this video because we felt the need to explain ourselves. We asked for assumptions so we could make a video and people get to know us a little bit better. We only share about 15-20% of our lives, the rest is private. And we wouldn't have shared an assumption that we wouldn't feel comfortable with. We wouldn't ever film being with friends either; we have the impression that so many got the being introverts fact wrong as well, it just means that you need your own space as well unlike extroverts who always need to be surrounded by people. the questions telling you to “explain in detail” why you can’t have children are so terribly inappropriate and hurtful. at least for me, because of health issues i may have infertility (though i don’t know and havent been tested yet), i cannot imagine somebody demanding that i disclose such private information. of course i’ve been curious about both of your families and if you’ve had children, i think its natural to wonder, but it is so, frankly, wrong to ask such a thing and especially in that manner. blessings to both you, absolutely wonderful people! you two bring me such peace as i am surrounded by turmoil (there have been riots on my street, young men threatening my grandmother and burning fires twenty feet away) i feel like i’m safe when i watch your videos. i especially love the little sheep in the wales videos haha. i hope you’re both happy and healthy

Kirsten & Joerg Portland, Oregon. the center of the US riots at the moment. i’m mixed race myself but because me and my granny (who is mixed italian and arab) think that rioting and abolishing the police is wrong, i get called ignorant, racist, and even threatened by my white neighbors... the state of things is just truly horrible right now. shootings in this city have gone up 300% because the rioters demanded they defunded the police, the city council relented, and now its mostly women and children that are being shot... i support reformation of the police, but i don’t support the defunding and abolition of it... we’re already seeing how dangerous that world could be. but it seems like all sense of reason has been lost, and only a few (my latina neighbor also supports us and tries to get the rioters to leave our street) have kept their compassion and sense of true justice. i hope i didn’t sour your mood with all this nasty news! i’m getting an associate’s degree as a paralegal that will hopefully allow me to be able to move. i’d actually love to be able to move somewhere in the UK or Ireland, and that’s how i found your videos originally 💗 you keep my mind on where i want to be, and help take my mind off of where i am currently. thank you so much for all that you do!

I completely understand about having children. My baby son died at 13 months. I had 3 girls at the time. So many people asked when I said I had 3 girls, " no boys? Will you try for one?" One woman said that her life wasn't complete until she had a son. That remark sent me into depression the rest of the day. People need to stop that remark if someone only has girls or boys or no children. They need to stop. There are so many reasons for the children they have or not have. Some stories very sad..... My husband and I have 4 girls. I was close to 40 when we had our last daughter after 2 miscarriages. We had to have an amnio so we knew the sex of the baby. When I told my sister it was another girl, but that she was healthy, her reply was that she thinks families that have boys and girls are better. It's been 28 years since she said that and I will never forget it.

I would never never NEVER tell anybody they owed an explanation to the world for something as personal as that. It's really horrible that somebody would try to place that onus on you, but you handled it very graciously. There is, these days, a distorted notion out there that "the public's right to know" includes every bit of personal info about anybody at all who happens to attract the least public interest. It absolutely doesn't.

We would only ever answer questions we feel fine with and if people go overboard we usually ignore them or give an appropriate answer we think.

We have been in Switzerland for just over 3 years now, and I completely understand how difficult it is to make friends as adults living in a new country! It's also harder when we (like you, I think) are somewhat introverted as a couple and enjoy spending time with each other. I so enjoyed this video - even though I was aghast at some of the assumptions/questions! You are a lovely couple and I enjoy spending time with you through your videos. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to both of you today. As for assumptions, the only ones that I had, turned out to be correct. I have seen the close bond between you, and I understand those bonds form after years of give and take, of growing together. My husband and I have been married for 47 years, and yes, we are both retired. We are happier now than when we were starting out, and more in love than when we first met. It's rare for people to weather the storms of life through time, and as you say Joerg, never give up! My husband is the optimist, I am the worrier, but opposites DO attract and what creates tension in the early years mellows to perfection in later years. I was taken back at the statement someone made, regarding an explanation of why someone would or wouldn't have children. You certainly do not owe anyone any explanations about your personal lives and did well with your answer. About being "wealthy", you have like myself, "champagne taste on a beer budget". Anyway, you are a wonderful couple, and I appreciate all the time and hard work that you put into your videos. Have a beautiful weekend, Cheers!

My dear mother and father.. Bickered with each other, all THIER 64 years of married life.. And they got everything out in the open... They thought the same as I lived over there, but I wasn't wealthy, but always looking for quality. I watched this some year’s ago and. enjoyed it again. My husband and I were married 62 years. I have been without him now for 5 years. I am slowly getting used to it but still think I hear him in the kitchen sometimes. We had a wonderful life and I do live on memories. A lot of couples could do with taking your example. i admire your honesty and love watching your videos. what i find unreal are the questions people have put to you but despite this you have answered in a polite and calm manner.
