I was born in Germany and since the age of 4 I had the feeling that I am more English than anything else..my family is German...I also still have the dream of moving and living in England one day...simply out of the love of anything ancient and historic as well as living in the NOW and enjoying the details and tiny things in life....Where I live now..is in North Germany..but I also have a very authentic ENGLISH style in my HOME..so I do have a baywindow in my flat (from the 1900) which is not so common in Germany, and an English fireplace .English TeaMugs BONE CHINA with English Country scenes on it...(Cotswolds)...the list goes on and on..what I do not have is the stunning breathtaking and very well taken care of..ENGLISH ROLLING HILLS and Countryside...Joerg and Kirsten are showing us in their videos...that is why I am sooo thankful for them sharing their passion and by that reminding me constantly..what my childhoods dream was...TO LIVE IN ENGLAND...they inspire me and help me not to put this dream aside... :)

I adore your house and the two of you are just the sweetest couple! My goal is to be like you, have a beautiful small home and a wonderful partner to share it and appreciate it with. You’re such an inspiration! Design wise - if you keep your current pretty cabinets, I would suggest using some of those darker teal tiles, get some brass knobs, a new sink (in brass!) with brass hardware, and then some pretty white quartz countertops!!!

I absolutely love DeVol kitchens! They are timeless, and there’s such a humaness to them as well… I think the way you guys are going to do up your kitchen sounds perfect. I bought a second hand wardrobe, 20 years ago, and simply by changing all the knobs over from plastic to; brass ornate handles, knobs, and decorative additions, ... the whole piece of furniture looks beautiful. It was an investment in purchasing the fancy brass wear, and took my personal time to use an electric drill, hammer and nail, to do the "up styling", ... but living on a humble pay packet as a hairdresser, ... it was a project worth doing. Still love this bedroom wardrobe. Similar with my kitchen zone. Tiny additions, simple, humble, low cost, gradually improved everything, over a period of time, to "live within my own means". Super happy. Yes, I don't need a big house, just a beautiful room. Good luck with your kitchen improvements. Very wise planning. Love Princess Holly of Australia, hairdresser, and apartment owner. 🕊🌿🌳🌱🌲🍀🍃🌴🕊🌿🌳🌱

You can do a lot with the kitchen! You can even take down the wall behind the sink and it would let more light in. Don't forget tiles can be painted and stenciled with a deft pattern, or a Morrison pattern for example. New hardware makes a world of difference! Adding molding to cabinet or door fronts also makes a huge change. We bought a copper sink and I'm in love with it! Also we bought a wood exhaust hood. Good luck, but I know you don't need it....your style is always beautiful ❤️

If it were my kitchen, I'd replace the splashboards, scratched countertop; the cabinets are nice but I'd replace the black knobs with white or ivory color knobs or brass, and maybe do a new stove setup... of course, if I had won the lottery, I'd probably be tempted to take the easy way out and just gut the old kitchen and replace it with a copy of one of the beautiful displays in that gorgeous showroom. Note: In my opinion, everything you've done so far to redecorate and remodel your home is absolutely perfect. It looks like you hired professional contractors and yet it was all done by you, yourselves. Joerg did an amazing job of hanging the wallpaper and the newly painted walls all look perfect as well. Love it. Thanks so much again for sharing another great video too.

I always loved the Devol kitchens as well and like you, I visited the Devol showroom in NYC for inspiration. When replacing my own cupboards I looked for the same style in a cabinet company I could afford. I found one that offered inset cabinet doors (rather than overlay) with a barrel hinge in the shaker style (Candlelight cabinet company here in the U.S.) and sourced my own knobs and pulls (best quality I could afford). I splurged on soapstone tops (with no tile backsplash to copy the look) and a Shaw sink and faucet. For my upper cupboard I asked for a bead board back panel and plain glass to mimic the look of an English cupboard. It looks just like an English Devol kitchen with my antique table and flea market finds and I am so very happy with it. Thanks for bringing us along today I really enjoyed it! Best of luck with your own kitchen plans

Here we go...Kirsten and Joerg you never fail to deliver on your "field trips" in showcasing the wonderful craftspeople of England...this tour of Devol's is one of my faves. How clever to do their showroom in a beautiful old building and the bucolic grounds to match, and offer not only their glorious kitchens BUT the antiques that are on display. Loved ALL the kitchens but the Real Shaker Kitchen gets my vote for the elegant simplicity that will always be in style - add the island from the Heirloom Kitchen and well that would be a little bit of heaven! So glad to have you both back on your adventures and as always allowing us to tag along.

I love the brass faucet as well; I love everything about the DeVol kitchen. This kitchen is Shaker style. The Shakers were a religious sect that had guiding principles of simplicity, utility and honesty. I’m from Ohio and we would go to the shaker village when I was a kid just to look around at their houses and gardens it was fascinating. Today, there are just a few Shakers still alive in a village in Maine. They are dying out because the members are celibate. Just a little history on why the kitchen is called Shaker. ❤️ it!😊

And the fun begins...We shall enjoy the journey with you, and I shall be taking lots of notes along the way!! Marvelous video, as always. Painting my cabinets, tile, and changing the hardware made an enormous difference in my kitchen. I did need to have the countertops and sink professionally done, though. I changed from very similar black countertops to white granite with a beautiful gray veining, and painted brown cabinets a lovely soft sage green. You'll be thrilled when it's done, and have quite a bit of designing fun as you go. Cheers! xxElizabeth (Essex,Connecticut)
