KISS Caught Lip Syncing?

Multiple fans accused KISS of lip syncing during their performance in Belgium on Monday. Paul Stanley's vocals can be heard when he is not immediately in front of the mic due to some sort of production issue. KISS has not weighed in on whether or not they were lip syncing on stage.

I see so many Artists nowadays that use backing tracks. And I must say, it's pretty heart-wrenching. Nothing hurts more than to learn every word in a song or rap, spend all those hours copying your singer's technique to sing/rap their lyrics, just to see them live and have them sing/rap only half their song.... The studio version you hear is a mix of the best lines out of the 25 or 30 times it was played to record it. I don’t mind it being different than the recording. What I do mind is lip synching and faking it.

At the end of the day, there was no need for them to get to this point in their career. It is disappointing for the fans and a embarrassment for Paul. I got to see there "Sound check" a couple years ago in the 2000'S. I was blown away how horrible it sounded. I was in the KISS ARMY in the late 70's. Still love those guys but something is off. 🤘

Anyone who shells out thousands of dollars to see a Kiss tribute band shouldn't be surprised when there's a little smoke and mirrors on stage. Kiss concerts are as live as you can get. I have seen these guys probably close to a dozen times, I was front row and center for one concert they were recording to use in a DVD, Paul was defiantly not lip syncing in that particular concert which I believe was in 2015. Paul did have surgery on his vocal cords and since he has gotten older is no longer able to hit certain notes with regularity which is why they never play certain hit songs like "forever". In every Kiss concert the instrumentals are 100% live, Gene always plays and sings his songs 100% live, Paul does often have to do partial lip syncing in most concerts, basically his live voice is mixed into the backing track so the audience is hearing a sort of a combination of what his is singing live and his pre-recorded live voice, which is not the same as lip syncing. They also use loud pre-recorded loud noises to go with the pyrotechnics (which are obvious) and in certain songs that Paul does they use some degree of pre-recorded chorus which is also mixed in with the live chorus because that is the only way to make the songs sound right live. Compared with a lot if not the most of the other bands, many which haven't been going non-stop for 40 years, I don't see this as a very big deal. I have never seen a band that put's on a live performance as good as Kiss (and I go to a lot of rock concerts). I don't see this as dishonest in anyway, they are just improvising and using newer technology to give their fans a really good show and live performance and I have no regrets about any Kiss concert I've ever been too and I'm hoping to see one of their final performances before they hang it up. .

I have been a fan of KISS since the beginning and up through Lick It UP. I have seen them live once and the show was awesome. That was the first "Farewell" Tour...... One thing I have seen is the choreographed show with KISS, Same show every night, same stage banter, etc. I say, if you no longer have the ability to put on a LIVE show, NO TAPE back up, then stop just going out for the money. Example: Motley Crue: I saw them DR. Feelgood tour and Vince sung about half the words. Great Show. Now, "What the---- is Vince singing, and how come he sings about every 5th word and just holds the mic up". I see they are still touring and I wouldn't go if the tickets were free....OK, maybe to check out the opener. Saw Judas Priest last year and Rob Halford at 70+yrs old can still hit the notes, well worth the money. For some bands, they are going for all the money they can make, regardless of the quality of the show. KISS is doing this. Why?

I just wonder if in the future going to a live venue to just go and see holograms of a band playing will be a common thing, e.g. Led Zeppelin, pink floyd or ziggy stardust and spiders from Mars etc, maybe that will be the next big thing music companies will be working on once the technology becomes more advanced (yes I know they did it recently with ABBA). For myself I will always prefer the interaction and atmosphere you get with a real band playing, it can't be beaten, but I would be tempted to go to a recreation of Pink Floyd the wall tour if it is done as close to the original.

A lot of these older bands on click tracks have fake vocals and fake instruments, even in metal. I sort of understand if you're omega old, but considering how good some vocalists genuinely sound even deep into their 50s, it really is a matter of proper and sufficient practice and taking care of your voice.

Most bands have done this. I'm pretty sure even some of Michael Jackson performances were with him not actually singing. It's hard as a singer to dance around on stage and have the breath to belt out singing simultaneously. No one really notices or cares but almost all professionals have done this for various reasons. Maybe the singers voice is shot from the show before.

The vocals are pre-recorded to sound pretty crap so they sound realistic. That is the quality Paul could put out in the last 5 to10 years. No one would believe it if they used vocals from 1976. If Paul sings live now he sounds like Donald Duck. Just watch a soundcheck on KZbin from a recent show. It is sung live and sounds appalling. They really should have quit after The Reunion Tour in 2001 before they got Fake Frehley on board.

They were definitely really singing and playing at least 2 of the 3 times I saw them, I was too far back from the stage the 3rd time (no make-up era) to tell. Well you don't know the situation for all we know he could have had laryngitis or something similar. There is no doubt that Kiss is using backing tracks to assist the 70s something's vocals. But they are singing to the music and not lip syncing. Someone said that they are using AI during sound checks, but if you actually watch sound checks you can tell that's Paul's current voice. People want to hear the songs as they hear it on the record. Well then, you are going to get backing tracks. Another reason why this is the End of the Road Tour. Gene and Paul can't do the full gear shows any longer. Just get over this it is the last hurrah. I agree with 2015 Gene they should disclose. Backing tracks to enhance a choir and string section fine. In the way Kiss use them is a step too far for me.

Any band could be great with choreographed pyro and light show. thats all kiss these days. i was a fan from the 70s so to see them do the backing tracks is slap in the face to the true hard core fans. Thats why they shouldn't talk crap about other bands.

Don't be like a 40 year old baseball player who can't leave when they should of, stayed to long and swings at anything hoping for that last big hit, and needs to take a bus to first base if he get that hit!

They are just getting too old. They shouldve hung it up a long time ago and not tarnish their rep, but Gene and Paul do a good job of that! These guys were my heroes and now Ace and Peter are more my heroes. The egos just have gotten worse over the years! Still love KISS, but I dont shout it as much as I used too... time to hang it up!

Miming at 'live' gigs has been going on for years & it's not just Kiss either, I saw Michael Jackson in Melbourne in 1996 & had no doubt he was clealry lip sincing.

It's common in live shows, they often uses pre-recorded playbacks in case the singers are missing a line during a song of if there's a problem. Most playbacks are recorded during a rehearsal / live studio performances or pre recorded samples of the actual songs. It's common and most bands do so. So it's not nearly near lips singing. Any audio tech should know that.

Why is it that it seams like everybody wants Kiss to go away is it because nobody is getting what they wanted when this end of the road tour started and that's wanting Ace and Peter back . Or is it you are not happy with Tommy and Eric wearing the makeup that Peter & Ace used to wear. Or just maybe the last tour was not the last one So what is it ?
