Lol 3 comments after each other wrong. 1. It's literally one of the most famous bass lines 2. Gene Simmons is incredibly respected for his musical ability. 3. It doesn't matter how complicated/simple something is in music, it depends on bow unique and distinct you can make it while also being catchy for a song.

Daniel Prudhoe It was too disco. A dumbed down rip off of what was popular at the time. If Gene played a more rock bass line, they might not have lost so many fans at the time. A #1 hit that cost them dearly for decades.

This is one of the coolest bass lines ever. I gotta hand it to Stanley. He killed on this one. It sounds complicated, but in reality, it's very simple, which just goes to prove that great music doesn't have to be difficult. Very impressive cover. Great bass tone on this one. Thanks for posting.

@@NPC-mt1czNo, Gene Simmons had nothing to do with this song’s recording except recording some backing vocals. Paul Stanley wrote it with Desmond Child and Vini Poncia. Paul plays bass on the recording and Anton Fig played drums, bc Gene and Peter are terrible musicians and can’t play this simple octave bassline and play in 4/4 time.

I have this sneaking suspicion that too many musicians serve themselves during the writing process rather than the songs at hand.

It's funny - for years I've thought the bass was "galloping" along with the guitar, but I guess that would have made it too cluttered. This is great - and gives a great insight into the ARRANGEMENT of this iconic song. Good playing, dude. Also - to all the people saying Gene is an underrated bass player - no shit! Check out his early work on the Classic Six albums and you'll see there's a level of interest to all his basslines that keeps you intrigued, not just the same thumpa-thumpa on one note (that he actually adopted a little in some of the KISS songs of the 80s). Gene has always said that he would structure his basslines as if they were a horn section. You can't hear it in this particular song - but definitely hear that kind of approach on the Classic Six.

Does anyone know how should I put my bass amp settings (Treble - Bass-Mid)?

depending on gear used, i'd say general rule to have a good GS sound is us a moderate overdrive, boost the Low-midrange, scoop low & hi. Key is picking hard enough.

I had a great music teacher in grade school, music was part of everyone's class. Some enjoyed it, some didn't, I did, point in short I am still a good recorder player and can read music faster than I can tabs. Not Downing Tabs, Tabs are great, don't get me wrong.

Hi Paul, great video. Only it is not E5 and D7 (your tabs) in the last part of the verse but E7 and D9 (how you actually play it). Keep on rockin'
