When KISS got big I was in high school. I thought it was stupid. But then, over time I realized they had some pretty great songs. They weren't just a gimmick and I became a fan. Years later I'm in my apartment and listening to this song and my room mate walks in and says "Oh, yeah! DISCO KISS!". It was an insult... at least I took it that way. I turned to him to argue and realized I couldn't. He was right! That's exactly what it was. Still a very fun song though.

The make-up is an excellent way to hide that you getting old. When they started doing it they won’t have realized that, I suppose. And it always amazes me that they looked hardcore but this song is actually pretty middle of the road.

Desmond Child, Paul Stanley and Vini Pncia wrote this tune. Gene Simmons didn't even play on this recording. Paul Stanley played Bass and rhythm guitar. Ace Frehley played lead, then studio musician Anton Fig played drums and Vini Poncia played the synthesizer. So really it's 2 members of Kiss and two producers (Desmond Child teamed up and wrote and bunch of singles for Bon Jovi)

I think the story behind the song is exactly what he said. I remember reading an interview with him once and he said he went to studio 54 and was dancing and had this bass tone thumping up his arse so he went home that night and wrote it! Had to have a back beat at 126bpm (disco tempo because thats what the heart pumps at when dancing this style) a disco hi hat, a disco bass and lyrics for the here and now! Voila.
@kt1pl23 жыл бұрын

It really was KISS doing Disco. As a 10 year old in the late 70's Chicago. I remember that song was hated so bad by the Rockers. The local rock stations refused to play it. As a Disco/(Chicago) House Music/Techno Electronic dance music life long fan. KISS REALLY hit a home run with this Rock "dance" track. People didn't see it at the time, but that was proof KISS was more than a gimmick or all about money which they always admit. It takes talent to crossover genres in the middle of a career peak. They really pulled off a Rock song that people could really dance to, and it really is a good song. Especially in the middle of the Rock vs Disco culture (we even say race war against Blacks, Latinos, and Gay people). You gotta appreciate what they did now looking back at it. Other bands that went Disco Queen "Another one bites the dust" Rolling Stones " Miss you", even Rod Stewart did a cheesy "Do you think I'm sexy". All hated songs for their time, but timeless looking back at them. They way I see it... They are Rock bands that said... We rock but we can do dance music and still stay rock. You never heard of any Disco band do a Rock song????
@dynjarren75235 жыл бұрын
M Riley It was actually smart at the time to make a Dance track or Disco Song! It was popular at the time and Rock n Roll originally started out as Dance music with the 4/4 Backbeat! Some how it morphed into listening music that you sat down to listen to with headphones 🎧! But originally it was danceable music! Although Disco burned out when they put Violins 🎻 on everything like Classical music even. That was the end of Disco. Disco is still alive only now they call it electronic or e or Club music. Same Thing!
@SmithCommaBenjamin5 жыл бұрын
KISS changed with the music landscape. They went into thrash, metal, and grunge, over time. It seems they were always trying to copy bands that were one step ahead of them. Beetles, Zepplin, Ozzy, Metallica, Collective Soul, Nirvana, etc... the reunion tour was probably the best thing that ever happened to them, because they stopped trying to keep up, and relied on their back catalog for the last 20 years

The dutch band "Dragonfly" had this kind of make-up. They played brilliant psychedelic rock (Rudy de Queljoe on guitar), in the sixties. I always wondered if Kiss had their looks 10 years later from them or that it was coïncidence that they came up with the same idea. If the Kiss-boys had the Dragonfly-singles in their collection, they had at least a good taste for music-listening. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZy5c6ahftyXaNU

I've Kiss several times live and every time they kicked butt.. my favorite concert that I seen that really stood out was back in 96 at the Hampton Coliseum.. to me that Coliseum never fails with sound, I'm like the Richmond Coliseum that the music will bounce off the walls like crazy there.. I seen Alabama 2 times at the Richmond Coliseum and the first show was a total waste of money but they came back and it wasn't that bad... I think the Richmond Coliseum was more designed for shows like the circus and not music.. And I seen David Lee Roth solo at the Richmond Coliseum and man what a joke.. Even the Richmond Times-Dispatch made a joke about that concert the next day saying that the circus was in town.. Lol.. That was my first rock concert that the drummer did not do a solo and David Lee Roth cut the bass player off about halfway through his solo and sent out Steve Vai to finish it off.. later I found out that they did Lee Roth fired that bass player..
