Kit E68: Hulls Finished and Boat Parts order

We finally finished up the fairing and sanding of the second hull this week, and we finalized some details on our Goiot order of boat parts coming from France. So, join Captain Blood, Admiral Marianne, and our XO Brian as we push forward on building our 50 performance/cruising catamaran in preparation for our circumnavigation voyage to come on the sailboat we built.

I am blown away at the commitment to spend half a million and you still have to build the boat. Never stop working. Get something done everyday, no matter how little. It will get finished and will be an amazing sailing cat to cruise the world with.

That's the plan, exactly. I don't focus on the entire thing, just what has to get done next, then do it always with that carrot of sailing this catamaran wherever we choose to go.

Brian is an absolute beast of a worker. I am sure you are compensating him in some way.

Oh yeah, I double his salary every so often... let's see, zero, times two... carry the zero... hmmm. Kidding aside, Brian's compensation is that he doesn't have to put in the 500k the Admiral and I did, but he gets to come on the voyage around the world with us, where he will continue to work his ass off, because that's what he does. I've known Brian for more years that I want to count.

I'd be curious to learn more about the price of custom parts like this. I've been fabricating my own stuff a lot, it might make more sense to order from a pro instead.

Well... the custom work labor was no charge for us, since they sponsored our build, so I don't know the price for that portion. The 'off the shelf' pieces, which are most of them, we did pay for, but at a discount. If you purchase through Schionning Designs, you would get a discount as well. But you can ask Goiot for their standard price list and they will send you one.

Thank you for another exciting video shared. Never enough sanding ;-) I curious what is that Australian team building and sharing youtube videos for their Arrow 1520? I have quick search but nothing found. It would be interesting to compare.

I don't know if I am missing something but your hulls look way to small for example have bedrooms in and stand up in.

That's because those are the canoes, most of which are underwater, or the bilge on the interior. The hull living space is above that and uses chamfer panels and chines to widen the hull above the waterline for the living space. That way there is less wetted surface in the water for a fast catamaran, but increased living space above the bilge level.

It’s just the lower third of the hulls. It’s a smart way to do it. The builders can be on the ground, walking back and forth etc… and still reach the top. Much faster.

Woah, just a quick one, you guys need to get someone who knows about fairing. You seem to be working energetically but the hull will not be fair using the methods you are showing. For your own sake, you should get an experienced boat builder in to get you started in fairing.

The hulls are finished and faired nicely. Once the paint goes on you can see any imperfections, and they look great.
