finally someone agrees with writing . i picked this book because of the hype and it took me more than a week to complete it because of the choppy writing.

I think 3 other main characters of this novel were MC dad's cancer , Sylvia's Chronic Pain and Margeret's ex being an alcoholic and constant denial to divorce her ( they are seperated ). Also Naomi' being a homeless and MC mom being a distant and not so parent have something to do with the story.Without these Intermezzo will be something else. With Luigi Mangioni case going on I think Sally did a great job by giving us glimpses what chronic illness can do to us and our relationships.

charu could you do your take on contemporary modern fiction as a whole? your thoughts on it, what you like and would recommend, and what didn't work for you. also shed some light on the authors in the sphere.

I haven't actually read the books but have seen both the shows of her book's adaptation. Probably going to do the same with this one. Should I read them??

Rooney has mentioned it time and again why she does the no quotations and punctuation writing style. Simply because she feels it serves no purpose, so whenever people mention how her writing is awful with every book, i find it annoying. Like, that does not seem to be changing anytime soon, so either make peace with it or dont read her books. I personally dont mind the writing style, and love her books to the core.

I prefer Intermezzo over Conversations with friends. Intermezzo felt more polished and matured. I had no issues with the sentences either. It felt jarring at the beginning, but sometimes literature is about disrupting the normal.

@arpanchatterjee525 def agree! And moreover books like these should be read at a slower pace to get the full experience! :P

The Alchemist/ I too had a love story/ Malgudi days/ How to win friends and influence people/ Who will cry when you die. Search them, find your genre. All are short and sweet books.

@@aspen602 for a beginner, I'd say preeti Shenoy is the way to go! I would personally recommend either "A hundred Little Flames" or "Tea For Two and A Piece Of Cake" by her
