i know what youre trying to say but often when you owe large sums of money like this companies will accept a lump sum payment which is less than owed in favour of nickel and diming you for years through collection agencies. i am 38 and have probably saved over 5k in my life offering to pay out money owed in a cash lump sum. it costs you nothing to ask
The mental capacity required to simultaneously act as 2 people having a seamless conversation while keeping it realistic and not messing up AT ALL, all with a scammer on the line and also answering his questions naturally is utterly insane. This man is a genius.

This is one of my favourite parts of his calls. It adds so much credibility to his side of the call. It's like the story of Mel Blanc doing the voices of Bugs Bunny pretending to be Daffy Duck and Daffy Duck pretending to be Bugs Bunny in a seamless conversation with each other. It made him a legend in voice acting. This is one of the things that makes Kit a legend in scam baiting.

I have a genius idea how to find all those call centers! You just need wireshark, geo-locate their IP and a bunch of seismographs. Let @Kitboga call them, give the rough location to the locals, install the seismographs and around the three to four hours mark they can measure the eruption of the scammers. The epicenter should point to the call center. For even greater precision you can set up some microphones and listen for the "No! No!" sounds.

Unfortunately, my grandfather fell victim to a scammer recently. We are sure what exactly happened, but we know he sent photos of his ID to these people. Luckily he mentioned it to my dad, and we stopped him from engaging further. Thanks for what you do, Kitboga!
@strawb_short_cake Жыл бұрын
Not sure if you've done that already, but there's software/services that can check the internet to see what of his personal information is floating around and where. Since sometimes, if the scammers can't get money from their victims directly, they sell the personal data they collected/stole. Since it was photos of his ID, that might open your grandpa up to identity theft. This stuff is also generally good to report to the police (via the non-emergency number, or by filing a claim online with their fraud department/the responsible government agency) so IF someone uses your grandfather's identity to do anything illegal, there is a record that his personal information has been compromised. I'm glad you and your dad were able to catch the scam and cut it short before things got worse! These fraudsters will often take advantage of elderly people who are not very tech savvy and don't know how incredibly advanced the techniques these scammers use have become :( it's really gross and predatory (especially considering a lot of these elderly victims live off pensions already and don't have a lot of money to their name). Wishing you and your grandpa the best!

Unfortunately they go for the numbers trying with tons and tons of people and making a nice chunk every one in 50 or one in 100 who either suffers from what would be considered special Ed level IQ as far as the American public school system is concerned (below 86) or by getting either a pre-dementia senior or an older person who simply believes he or she wouldn't know that the way business is done has changed so the ridiculous idea of sending I Tunes gift card money to pay someone isn't any less strange to them than it is strange that the very real IRS takes very real Visa gift cards if you choose to pay your taxes with them. Using a VISA gift card like any other credit card to pay something makes no more or less sense to technology challenged old people than using an Apple card to pay a fee. Just commenting a related thought for anyone who never thought it out by the way, I am sure you can or have hashed all that out on your own, Penny.

My grandma just got a trick phone call from actual thieves. They pretended to be the energy/gas company and asked questions about her gas system, etc. She answered all of it, cause she recently had phone contact with the genuine gas company. Then they asked how many people were in her house using the gas. She told, only her, as she is a widow. They made an appointment with her. Gladly she felt suspicious after that and called the police. They told her, that it had been thieves and how to prepare for the appointment date. She also had a (male) neighbor come look for her when the appointment was due. They said they'd change it. Never did. When I called, it almost had to be the same woman, no difference on voice or accent, or eagerness to say no problem. The scammy call was more like a business call, legit but I felt like the co.X woman was selling customers names/numbers. Or using them to promote her own business. You never know who who is working for the bank or wherever, using customer lists for their own purposes.

TheChase2010 they’re not giving bro are you dumb?
@IRam-iq7bp4 жыл бұрын
@@TheChase2010 In layman's words (or what I've learned from watching these videos) once the refund-scammers get access to your computer screen, they merely change what your screen says temporarily, with some minor coding/HTML editing tricks. In reality, they never actually touch your money whatsoever (because the reality of an ACTUAL financial transaction on your account by them is impossible). But sadly what they can do is an optical illusion: when YOU look at YOUR screen, it LOOKS like your account balance has been adjusted to reflect a new big total from the incorrect refund. If you were to hit refresh on the bank page, their temporary screen would be lost, and your true account would be there as it always was. All the scammer has to do is get the victim to believe the temporary, wizard-of-oz smoke screen for a moment, obey their constant "DO NOT TOUCH THE COMPUTER," and be emotionally motivated by whatever guilt/fear ("you messed up the computer....you will go behind the bars") or empathy ("ohmygod, I will lose my job") tactics the scammer employs. The scammer manipulates the victim into heading *directly* to Target/Apple/Walmart (instead of going to their bank and realizing the nonexistent issue) for the gift cards with the "owed" money that they actually never gave you in the first place at all. And thus, the scammer can con away thousands.

Allow me to say the following: This is the BEST comedy I've watched in my entire life, probably because I know it's real. Yes, I know it's a serious matter, and the main objective is to waste the scammer's time, but GOD do I have cramps right now. You, my boy, deserve every good thing in your life. Just wow.

Han Lockhart I think you mean scammers, generalizing all Indians that way is bordering on racism
@nathangamble1254 жыл бұрын
@@midcondition It's not anything specific to scammers, and it's not about "all Indians" but it is still true. It's an aspect of the work culture in India. People are expected to conform and follow basic orders without questioning them, sometimes even if those instructions are obviously incorrect or illegal. If an Indian person is given a suggestion (especially if the suggestion comes from someone senior to them), they will often unquestioningly agree, and follow instructions to the letter, unless those instructions contradict something they were told by a more senior employer. This can be anything from working ridiculous hours, to doing things which are obviously wrong (either factually or morally), or simply refusing to acknowledge or fix obvious problems because their boss never told them to. I've experienced this myself in working with people based in India, and I can see the evidence of it in these videos. It's not a problem with Indian people, but with Indian work culture.
