Thanks for the video Ben! It’s a good reminder to start adding some info to my report regarding the rationale and be on the lookout for when my area adopts the new code.

Thanks. Glad you found it helpful! When reporting safety hazards, use clear but measured language that: (a) States the specific defect and its location (b) Explains the safety risk in factual terms (c) Notes if it's a common issue that can be remedied (d) Provides practical next steps. Example: Instead of "DANGEROUS electrical hazard poses IMMEDIATE risk!", write: "Missing GFCI protection at kitchen outlets. This safety defect increases shock risk near water sources. Common in homes of this age - recommend licensed electrician install GFCI protection." This maintains professional credibility while ensuring clients understand and address legitimate safety concerns.

Good video. Nice explanation of this change even if I disagree with the code change. Now, some folks will run extension cords to operate their blender or mixer on the island. So, what is the lesser evil?

Thanks, I appreciate that.

But those outlets are so handy for plugging in your stand mixer! Just because it is optional how does it make that a hazard? Wouldn't any outlet within reach of a child be considered a hazard then?

Building code commentary really pours it on describing the safety hazards and the need to improve the building code. codes.iccsafe.org/content/IRCComm2021P1
