The neat old piece that looks a bit like a piano, was actually a pump organ. the slanted rectangles at the bottom are where your feet go on and you would push them down, alternating ( like pedaling a bike!)so as to keep the bellows inside filled with air that went thru the reeds or pipes to make the musical notes depending on which keys you pressed on the keyboard. good exercise they were! took a bit of practice tho to make them operate smoothly!

Using dressers is an excellent idea. Those are always available at thrift store. I also like the metal book shelving. I like the free-standing or "unkitchen" look. So much less expensive than having to have cabinetry created. I used two open china hutches to create my free-standing kitchen. I also have a farm table with storage baskets underneath. I added some wall shelves and a colonial style table and chair set. All items purchased used from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Total cost was only about $600. Great video.

Love these ideas!! The kitchen in the house we are renting had a lot of unusable room, but not enough room for an island, not a lot of counter space, and no pantry. I found a credenza at a thrift store that was close to the color of the kitchen cabinets. I have my microwave and toaster oven on it, and in the deep “file” drawers, I store microwave safe Tupperware in one (right under the microwave) and non-microwaveable Tupperware in the other. In the middle section, I store the cereals and cereal bowls (because initially my daughter was 8 and the credenza was a great place for her to pull out her plastic cereal bowls and cups. I up-cycled a wood aquarium stand into a cabinet to store my daily Fiestaware and put floating shelves above them for the serving pieces. When money and space are tight, you have to be creative!

I use it for my cookbooks, cookie sheets and baking pans, roasting pans all the things that aren’t used often. In the top I was able to display a salt and pepper collection I received from my sister-in-law who passed away as well as of thing that were from deceased family members. Some people think it is to big but I love it and that is all that maters. Love your videos.

Right now I'm keeping an eye out for a long filing cabinet like you see in offices. One that isn't real tall. I think it would make an amazing "cabinet" or island in or near kitchen for all those lids and baking dishes that take up so much space. Since they're metal, you can paint them to coordinate with other colors in home. Or it could be used in a craft room for all the stuff we all collect. So many uses. Now to just find one without spending a lot of money...I'm a firm believer in budget decorating.

In older homes, those are called Eat in Kitchens. Both the homes I grew up in had pretty much that same set up as you have in your home, Norrine. The first home had a Youngstown kitchen with everything built in, cooktop, wall oven, etc. It had plenty of storage for our young family. The next home we were all older and Mom bought a beautiful piece of furniture configured similar to a buffet and hutch, but the upper area was like wall cabinet doors. I now have it in my sewing room, which you would have seen when I emailed my sewing room pictures to you. Not sure you remember that now. It's between two two louvered door cabinets.

I have a rolling cabinet that I think was originally meant for kitchen use. It, however, has had many different lives as my life changes. First it was a place to store all my scrapbook supplies. Later I moved all that stuff upstairs and now it holds my coffee maker and my instant pot. Drawers hold place mats etc. and manuals for kitchen appliances. I have a basket for recycles and binders with recipes. And it looks nice and neat.

For many years I rented a storage unit and for organization I had 3 walls in a 'U' shape, of wire shelving. Since the pandemic, they've been difficult to find and became more pricey. The reason is that those who stockpile use them to store all the toilet paper and other items they hoarded. It's the same story with freezer chests; folks stockpiled meat, dairy, flour, and yeast. So then freezers were sold out as well. Come to think of it, it's really good survival planning.

I am glad that you did this video. Because I have been trying to find a way (since I have a small dining room area) to put up a small pantry instead of my hutch that I have had forever. Buying one is way out of my price range for what I am looking for. So a redo would be perfect. I could redo my hutch but that means I have no place to put my decorative plates that I display and other items I have in there for storage (office supplies, batteries, cards, extra silverware, recipe books on the bottom and of course tableclothes. If I could convince my husband to maybe converting it, I could paint it white and take off the bottom doors (2). There are a lot of TV cabinets at my Salvation Army maybe that could be another idea but I can't have them sticking out too far. I thank you again for this video.

@@TheCraftyOrganizer Yes, that's what I had in mind. In our case, we have a unit that I bought years ago BUT about 2/3 of the top of that one has space for a clothes bar to hang coats then the rest I used for my cleaning products cuz the shelves are really narrow. We just bought another unit (like the ones you showed) and I'm using that for pantry space. My problem is that the legs on the older rack are the same construction but thinner so the shelves aren't interchangeable. I'm thinking, once I do some more purging I'll have a better idea of what will best fit into that space :)

After watching your last video I come to realize why I have not been successful in organizing my craft room. I have been micro-organizing. So I decided to take your advice and macro-organize. My paints, wood plaques and embellishments and ribbons are all over my craft room, hallway and bedroom. I have started with my paints and organized the majority into my 3 plastic drawer organizer. I have to wait until my husband goes to work to get the rest. My ribbon will organized into my large tub. I will be separating off-the-spool wire ribbons and grosgrain separately into bins with lids into the large tub. All of my burlap ribbon and twine will go with them. I am keeping the thought of like-with-like. Especially if I use them together quite often. I have a huge collection of buttons. I have most of the main colors separated from the others. I do have large, medium and small jars with lids.(they are all mostly on cards). I’m concentrating on these three because they are the largest collections. My buttons and various embellishments (including feathers and wood beads) are next. I do have bins and boxes I can repurpose into organizing bins. I also have pegboards and various types of shelves I can use for my wreath forms. I have to go very slow because of my back and lack of energy. I have on vitamins and supplements that I noticed are helping me. My oncologist and surgeon stressed not to over do it. I did in December and in January I was back surgery with an infection.

I have an old wardrobe type cabinet, that my grandfather’s uncle made. My grandparents had books, and toys in them, but when I built a home in 1999, they gave it to me to use. I had it in our office to store office supplies. After my divorce, I moved into a rental house that had no kitchen pantry. I used the cabinet for that while I lived there. Now, it’s in my townhome, and I’m going to paint it, so I can use it for storing my baking supplies. My kitchen is small, and only has a small pantry, so this cabinet will contain the overflow.

Thank you for giving me the ok to convert a chest of drawers to a kitchen cabinet. Had ,4 drawers on right and door on left with a shelf (will add a couple more using your idea on a previous video. Good idea for using upspace by adding a cheap bookcase. I have the cabinet with cutting board top this will work perfect since I love kitchen appliances but don't use them when I have to dig them out to use. Tks❤️👍ps: very small kitchen!!

Thank you for sharing . I absolutely loved this video with all the different ideas and also your thoughts on them . I brought some of them wire stands for my sons bedroom almost 20 years ago and they still look new and as functional as ever . I loved the idea of using the big old tv hutch for a coffee bar . I don’t have the room but wished I did . I would love to see more of this type of video from you...I know we can research ourselves but it makes all the difference having your input . Thank you . 💛

I needed room in my kitchen for my New Wave, so I found an old microwave stand at the thrift store. The top was all scratched up, so I'm covering it in discounted tiles and broken ones from my daughter's old table. As soon as I get it finished, I'll send you a picture.
