I have many of these sawdust storage shelves that saved me when I moved into 1/3 of the space I used to live in. They were quick, simple, and absorbed almost all of my work and kitchen things. The stacks of cardboard moving boxes were out of the middle of my living room. Now, for reuse, recycle and repurpose. Thank you

My daughter used six of these on their side to raise her full bed in her dorm for storage. Not only does she have the cubbies filled but the space in the middle holds all her larger bulky items and suitcases. She left openings on two sides for access. She used a single 4 cubby above her headboard for storage. Then she created a desk by putting an old core door across them using the door knob hole for wires. It’s beautiful in her dorm . Holds everything she needs and cost $120 dollars total.

It seems an awful lot of hardwork. I'd just go to a furniture thrift shop. By the time youve paid out for the cubes, power tool, extra pieces of wood and varnish you may as well purchase a solid second hand piece and polish it. But I guess if you love mdf storage, and have plenty of time n money to spare, go right ahead! ❤

I came here to say that too. Been there for my preschoolers. I thought it would be fine cause they’re so little, nope! Lasted about two weeks started to bend and weaken. Just not made for sitting. Although the reinforced thick wooded ones might hold up nicely.

Yeah they don't make it long, especially if you forget then have birthday party and theirs about 10, seven years old and they believe they are frogger in hoping, jumping, WWE takedowns. Best bet is old changing tables good to break down make a seat bench, you can also use the crib mattress believeme they are the best whether you have a old one or a friend getting rid of one. Take a old wore out sheets, older favorite blankets can be cut down, cloth hot glue, cloth tape, sewing machine or hand stich. You always want to be able to pull cloth off to wash, I use them easy stich on velcro for on and off. Older dressers are good, you can use the drawers for something else, can't go wrong finding older pieces at curbside, you can make anything from Lego table to a outside bench seat. Just my opinion, I'm a wood collector though anytime someone has good dresser, shelves, wood doors at the curb or they going to toss out I stock pile in our old barn😂😂 what's best is when someone pulls out cabinets whether whole or pieces if it's older cupboards they are always sold wood, old farmhouses are the best. They work for hubby's car garage with the hoist, from tools to everything else. Anything whether metal shelves or cupboards, anything with wheels is worth taking the time to take them of and have a drawers full of them.

You’re gonna spend more money trying to cover a green cubby storage box when you can just buy the color you want when they make so many different colors. Some ideas are gonna cost you more than to buy the actual item.

My husband made shelves in our closets with these types of shelves. I found a warehouse that was selling these for 10 bucks new in the box, We purchased 6 of them and Taaa daaaa built in shelves in my walk in closet and all our other closets 😊 We topped it off with some trim pieces we have and they look like they came in the house this way ❤

For all the time and money spent trying to make the Walmart / closet maid shelves into new items one would have been better off buying ikea that came as the actual ready made piece of furniture needed. I found it obvious this video was made to imitate ikea kallax “hacks”. I agree with many other commenters, goodwill, yard sales, thrift stores much better places to buy real wood furniture that can be modified to make a quality new piece of furniture. Plywood and building supplies are very expensive now.
@wendybutler1681
@wendybutler1681 9 күн бұрын
Because building a storage unit takes a lot of large and expensive tools to do a decent job. Using simple hand tools to modify or disguise an existing piece is far more do-able for a lot of people. And because plywood is so expensive right now. Cheaper to buy the ready-made units. Same with fabric now, too. It costs less ready-made than it does to make it yourself. That's just not right!!

@cynthiacrawford1573 I'm talking about the video. Most of these examples show people using tools many people don't have, and raw supplies. My point is, if you're going to cut and build something using tools, and boards as depicted in this video, you might as well build everything using quality wood instead of cheap partical board prefabricated junk.

You can also make a pdq bed with little more than a few cement blocks, a 3/4" plywood top, and upholstery foam for the mattress. I've done the same for a rocket stove, sofa, table, and storage shelves. In short, you can make most of the necessary household furniture that way and dirt cheap. It isn't for tony cocktail parties, but if you're just then setting up house, it goes a long way toward stretching your dollars after a weather event, divorce, etc. Learn to make do when you must. I would highly advise using some kind of construction glue however. You don't want higher stacks of cement blocks falling over on you.

We don't own some of these tools or a garage to fit them. Our house is built on a slab. I'd make these because they'd be good storage for my fabric and sewing accessories. With a taller one i could keep yarn, knitting needles, chrochet needles, and other and other things. They don't take a big footprint, i can put on a single wall, and have everything organized. I'd probably screw them together for stability, at least she has ideas and shares them. 👍

You have to be really careful with spray paint and plastic...some types of spray paint have additive that actually can start to eat into the plastic, while others will just slough right off with basic, regular use levels of contact. There's specific ones that are made for plastics, but it's hard to say if it would stand up to the lid being frequently handled.

I see possibilities everywhere I look. If she didn't get so angry at me for my abilities I would would be a less anxious person. We live together. I shall escape soon to my own 4 walls again. I will need creative ideas to make cheap look expensive. I kept enuf to furnish a one bedroom but will need shelves, etc. My own kitchen again! This housing crisis is real. Never thought I'd be technically homeless. Not a one bedroom to be had in my city except luxury. Disability income does not DO luxury.

Actually I have 2 of the trofast units from Ikea they were bought for my now 21 year old when he was 2 and they are still going just as strong as the day they were assembled and trust me with 4 boys in the house they were put through everything lol.

If properly taken care of , cube organizer shelves last for a very long time. If you follow the manufacturers instructions on not putting anything heavy on them or moving them around while filled then they'll survive for many years.

I agree. I have two 4 cube units in my bedroom that I use to store my Breyer Horse collection. They're pretty but after just a few years of owning them the wood look sticker finish is peeling off. I wouldn't buy anything like this again.
