I ordered this exact model (yes, a red one!) before watching this video. After seeing your video, I am confident I made the right choice. The few poor reviews on Amazon are still worrisome on my mind, but now at least I know what to expect and will be able to tell (by ear) if there is something wrong. I used a 22-quart Hobart mixer every day at work for 20+ years, so this is a dream come true for my home kitchen. So many hours reading reviews, examining specifications, comparing models, evaluating my needs and justifying the cost of such an appliance…I finally pulled the trigger. Thanks for your review…very satisfying!

There are just two problems with this machine and one is from lack of use and the other is overheating it. The speed controller is not like the earlier machines and if not used often will become glitchy. You can buy new controller for around $75 but if you unplug the machine and run the switch back and forth between Off and 10 about 20 times you will usually clear the contacts and it will work normally again. If you overwork the machine there is a thermal fuse that will burn out and that will need to be replaced. Kitchenaid doesn't offer a replacement but you can find these online and a video to show you how to replace it.

My mom gave me her KitchenAid stand mixer that is 30 years old, but you wouldn’t know it didn’t just come out of the box. I have thought of upgrading it, but I cannot overcome replacing something that has nothing wrong with it, not even a scratch. It’s more a part of the family than some individuals in the family. When QVC had a clearance on the KA multicookers, I jumped on it. It even matches the mixer. Similarly built like a battleship. Neither are WiFi connected, have a touchscreen or a camera. Isn’t that great!

Thank you for another great review. Clearly, the capacity of this mixer is large, but in terms of its footprint and overall height, it's exactly the same size as the Pro 600 bowl lift mixers. The only physical difference [besides the beaters, whip, etc.], is the *height* of the bowl.
@russ50245 жыл бұрын
This mixer is a much quieter unit, than the Pro-600. This one has a DC motor which is supposed to be more durable and longer useful life. Hopefully owners of this mixer will comment .

@@russ5024 Yep, I just got one, and you are right. The difference between them is the 6 qt has a larger, louder motor, goes by watts and weighs 30 lbs. The 7 qt has a DC motor which is a LOT quieter, it goes by HP (horsepower) instead of watts, which is about 1.4 HP. It also weighs less than the 6 qt- 25 lbs-so actually LIGHTER. From what the saleswoman told me on the phone when I was purchasing, the reason for the weight difference is because of the DC motor is more efficient and weighs less. Ive read quite a few complaints about the PRO series, but Ive also read a lot of amazing reviews too. For myself and what I need a large capacity for, I LOVE the 7 quart PRO series. Its pretty amazing. The next size up is a HOBART 20 quart and those are like $5k-20K. Ill stick with the largest 7 quart for $700. :D

I find when making dough for bread sometimes the pin on the attachment arm likes to walk a little loose making the dough hook hard to remove. A slight tap on it with a plastic punch and a hammer reseats the pin but can be frustrating if you don't know what is going on or how to remedy it. That's been my only issue with the mixer otherwise I love mine. I got the cast iron black one directly from kitchenaid and the paint is perfect on it.

I read a review that claimed the ceramic started chipping off the beater & getting into the foods within a few months time. I wish they would use simply stainless steel. At the huge price, its the least they can do.
@philipwebb9604 жыл бұрын
The chipping doesn't happen unless the beater or dough hook gets hit pretty hard, dropping it on a hard floor for instance. Nothing you would put into the bowl to mix would hit the beater hard enough to chip the nylon coating. You CAN knock the beater around hard enough outside the bowl to chip it, but the chip obviously wouldn't get into the bowl. The nylon coating on my 39 year old flat beater is chipped in a couple of very small places, but I know when it happened (I dropped it twice). If you want them badly enough, you can buy a stainless steel flat beater and dough hook made by either KitchenAid or a third party.

The dough hook on this pro model is much better than the hook that comes with the classic models.
@russ50245 жыл бұрын
The dough hook provides a different kind of kneading action that is possible in the larger bowls of the 6, 7 and 8 qt. that have more powerful motors. They get kneading done almost twice as fast (half the time) of the dough hooks that were standard with 4.5 and 5 qt models sold during the 1960s and 1970s. Artisian stand mixers now come with dough hooks that have a slight 'spiral" to knead doughs in less time too.
@cherryberry94684 жыл бұрын
Russ Thanks for the info! I didn’t know that.
@bl69734 жыл бұрын
Russ The J hook kneads off the bottom of the bowl which is basically how a typical person kneads, while the C hook kneads off the sides. Not only that but thenwhisk can really get into the sides because of the way the wires are bent.

At 4:06 When she raises the bowl how the paddle attachment raises it is no longer in the Locked position. In older models they had a spring to compensate for this. KA has announced that "the Spring is Not Necessary". We see here how this makes the bowl attachment "Walk" and clatter alot...making the motor work harder than it needs to. IF the Spring were still in use the torque would be even all through the mixing process. Edit: I watched at 1/4 Speed and literally could see the pin moving back and forth from the "LOCKED" position at 4:16 (At 1/4 Speed on YT) I couldn't even see the the "Dowel" that holds the attachment in the Locked position is definitely not where it is suppose to be. My theory is that KA removed this one crucial piece to save money and to sell replacement parts. The worm gear and planetary gear are the most common failure and I surmise that the continual Torque and then NO Torque is the cause. BTW..did anyone know that Hobart sold KA to whomever and KA has went down hill ever since. I am NOT Sorry about my review of this Product, (even if it is a year old) it only shows the easy things andshould not influence people who want a quality product and get a sub-standard product for the price we all pay. I have a recipe that will KILL all Kitchen Aids! Except for my Classic..which in the end gave up the ghost eventually it served me well and it has the Spring loaded Spindle, I just bought a Pro 5 Lift model (without the Spring loaded Spindle) 2 months ago..it overheated twice on the same batch, and is now leaking grease in my dough! Needless to say it is going back. Bad Form Kitchen Aid!!!
@sashineb.21143 жыл бұрын
I agree about the necessity of the spring on the tool shaft. I saw another video where the paddle flew off the post when the mixer was stopping. I have a KitchenAid from the 1980s made with the Hobart specs, still going strong. I keep hearing that the new KA mixers are not as good, as I hope mine keeps working.

The KitchenAid won't perform like a Thunderbird ARM-01, but it is less than 1/3 the cost, and still offers adequate performance for most users. If you are on a budget, then this one is the one to get as long as you carefully monitor the amount, and the hydration of the dough. As long as you don't work it too hard, you should be all set. But if you have bigger needs, there is nothing wrong with buying a commercial mixer. I'll never regret the purchase of my old Berkel 10 quart, even though I have at least one KitchenAid Commercial 8 and an Ankarsrum Assistant in my collection.

First you must unplug the mixer from the wall outlet. Second there is a screw on the back of the mixer that holds the Kitchenaid band around the top of the mixer. Third remove the 4 screws that hold the top cover in place. Once you remove this cover you will see the motor the motor controller and the gear assembly covered by a plastic shroud. Do not remove this part because you will end up with grease all over your hands. The electric motor brushes are close to the rear of the machine. you will able to see one of the brushes. The other brush is 180 degrees opposite to the first brush. The removal, and replacement of these two brushes is a very delicate operation. You should only allow an electrical technician to replace these brushes. This is the reason why you were not told how to do this. You can also see videos in KZbin that walk you through the steps. If you do this wrong you will probably burn out your motor, and probably set you kitchen on FIRE!! Send it back to the factory. I believe that people should have all the information to make an intelligent decision. DO NOT DO IT!

I don't use it for cakes other than sponge cakes. I think it's to strong for cake batter. It makes cakes stiff by adding to much air. I have ka hand mixer. I use it for 45 sec on 2

I just kneaded some dough to make Christmas cookies. The dough hood kneaded the center of the bowl, but it pushed up on the sides all the rest of the dough. Why did that happen?

Sure, you can buy a cheap Farberware for $99.00 bucks. But it will never match the quality and capabilities of the KitchenAid Pro-Line 7. But, feel free to buy the cheapie if that's what you feel is best.
