Bruce Boschek I can’t decide which! If you could only pick one, which would you choose?
@BruceBoschek4 жыл бұрын
@@julietteyork3721 That's a difficult call. I guess it would depend upon how you plan to use it. We had the bowl-lift machine first and thought that it would be good to have one with smaller bowls. Even with the newer wiper blades you have to stop the machine and wipe down the bowl with a rubber spatula now and then. As it turns out, the tilt-head machine is not that much of an improvement in that regard. The only real difference is the availability of glass bowls for the tilt-head machine. If you shop around the price difference is also minimal. Thinking about it, I would probably prefer the bowl-lift machine. Either way, you cannot go wrong. Both machines will serve you well, I'm sure.

Thanks for sharing, Bruce. Like Juliette, I am unsure. I like the idea of mixer that can handle anything I throw at it now and in 5 years time. Right now it's me and my partner. . So right this moment am favouring the Bow lift. It's size does not concern me. I dont my storing it in the floor cabinet (or is it crazy heavy?) My concern about it is its ability to deal with small quantity. You seem to suggest it struggle like Amy says? I like the convenience of the tilt head but am worried the shaking of the head will shorten its life span or that it struggle to make larger amount. You have both so are the ideal person to ask! Please help! (and stay safe in these crazy times!). Thanks Greetings from London, UK.

Just a sec - I had a bowl lift as my first mixer. I loved it and used it for years and years! My kids grew up on it, and there was nothing it couldn’t do. It was too big for storing on my counter and so I stored it underneath in a cabinet. It was heavy and a pain in the rear to lift up all the time and put it away. It finally broke (it is fixable but I haven’t done that yet-lol) but I was in the middle of a move and I was gifted a new mixer as a housewarming gift. I chose the artisan mixer. Now it sits out on my counter and I use it ALL THE TIME because it is right in front of me! I love seeing it on m y counter because it just makes me happy :). I now use it for more than just baking too. Don’t get me wrong, I still use it to mix cookie and cakes batter and I also knead dough in the artisan and the smaller mixer does fine with regular bread dough. I am also more apt to use the attachments i have, use it for mixing meatloaf, or shredding cooked chicken or even massaging kale for a salad. So maybe this will help you make up your mind. They are both great you will be happy with either. They are just different!

I've have KitchenAid for 40 years. I actually bought one of the bowl lift mixers because of the amount of dough involved in a recipe. I didn't want the bowl to spin around when I had heavier bread or pizza recipes. HOWEVER, I returned the bowl lift, because A) I'm a one person household; B) the recipes I make (now) don't require a lot of dough; and C) for the reason Amy stated early on, the amount of room that you have to add ingredients, and also to add/remove the attachments, when you lift the tilt-head vs the tilt-head. Plus, easier to use the tilt-head than struggle with getting the bowl into the frame for "bowl-lift" version.

I just upgraded from a tilt classic to a bowl lift pro 5. I find the bowl lift is much more stable when kneading dough. I've heard that you can't always go by the watts, it's the torque that determines the power. I saw your pan room tour yesterday and was really surprised to see that white bowl-lift mixer on the top shelf considering how heavy they are! If I stored one above my head, I would never use it. My aunt had a special cabinet for hers that lifted up and out to counter level--this was in the 70's and I was in awe because our family was lucky to have a Sunbeam. I have the Pro 600 and hate that noise as well. The 4.5 quart tilt-head really is best for most jobs. Mine is almost 30 years old and works great.

I grew up on the artisan tilt head using it often because it fit right under the counter and was so quick to use, “but” my mother never made homemade bread or stiff doughs, but lots of meringues, cookies and homemade cakes etc. It was very easy to add ingredients and remove the messy paddle. It also was white and never showed the dust of flour on it. I grew up and got a tall pro version in beautiful cobalt blue and it shows every speck of flour on it every time I use it for such and have to totally clean it each time. It was very hard to put on and off the bowl until I got used to it and now I can do it quickly, but I still struggle putting on and off the mixing paddle looking straight down without the tilt angle. It does take up more space, but I love that it is a work horse for stiff doughs. I also love using the very quick batch cheese shredder and or butter shredder attachment. I read that using the tilt version often for stiff doughs can damage eventually the joint of the tilt back version, but not the stationary taller version. My mother had her artesian tilt version around 40-50 years but did not bake homemade bread or rarely made stiff sugar cookie dough. So, it depends on if you are doing many meringues and very rarely stiff bread doughs really, or you are really into making stiff sugar cookie dough and bread dough often enough that it warrants the stronger motor and non-movable head. Having both would be nice but you do have to have the room for it. If I were doing it all over again, I would get white because I don’t remember my mother’s having to be swabbed down for every speck of flour each time of use. The colors are pretty, but definitely more upkeep to keep gleamingly pretty after each use. They are making a more comfortable handle now on the taller versions, that mine does not have. Besides the attachments, they do offer for more money, an optional smaller bowl/shorter whisk combo especially made for the pro line series for those who need to whisk meringues or smaller batches, which I plan to get.

Your Commercial 8 is the most versatile of all of them. You can purchase a 5 quart bowl to do smaller quantities, and KitchenAid also makes a 3 quart bowl and Combi-Whip that will fit on the Commercial 8 (I have one). The Ultra Power is great for someone on a limited budget, and it will run all the KitchenAid attachments. However, their power is more limited. All of the mixers in this video would be perfect for the needs of most home cooks, including the 4 1/2 quart Ultra Power. You do have to be careful with stiff dough, however. I would recommend the Commercial 8 for making bread on a regular basis. You need as much power as you can get for a stiffer yeast dough. It is nice when you don't have to pay the high cost of bread at the local grocer.

I concur. The pro-line models, of which the Commercial is one (the 6 and 7 qt Professional HD models are the other two and share the exact same mechanical components) are the next best machines in terms of power and quietness, but they're no match next to a vintage 10 quart Hobart if you can find one at a decent price and have the wherewithal to restore it ;-)

I don't do much baking, but I'm trying to decide which of the two I should buy in regards to the Classic and the Artisan. My main concern is, will the classic stall if I knead too much dough. I don't know how much dough it is able to knead without stalling. The biggest dough I would knead would be for a large loaf of bread. If the Classic can handle it at 275 Watts, then I would buy that one, but if I need more torque, then I would bug the Artisan since it has 325 Watts. Have you had any experience in stalling motors? They can be subbed out for a similar color or something neutral. Kitchen Aid did a good job when they designed these mixers:)

I love my classic white tilt head, 325 watt, 5 quart better than my lift bowl. The lift bowl is very awkward when adding ingredients and when removing the bowl with mixes in it. The beater doesn’t raise high enough to get mixture off of it and into the bowl before removing the bowl. You have to tilt the bowl so far to get it out from under the beater that loose mixtures practically spill out of the bowl when removing it. It’s also difficult to get a spatula down in the bowl to make sure everything on the bottom is getting mixed in to a batter. Sometimes dryer ingredients are left at the bottom. The tilt one tilts the beater out and no problem getting your spatula down the sides to scrape the bowl all the way to bottom to make sure all ingredients are mixed properly. The tilt versions are cheaper than the bowl lift versions. If you lock the latch for the tilt mechanism while mixing, the mixer will not bounce.

Thank you! Idk why so many prefer the bowl lift because I have had a pro 550 for years that even with its huge 8qt bowl, it is such a challenge to scrape the sides. Often times things at the bottom DONT get mixed. Thinking of trading mine in because it’s such a hassle!

So I have a KitchenAid stand mixer. That is a lift bowl. I love using it. The only thing I have issues with is the whisk head that fluffs like egg whites and stuff. Do you know how to adjust the bowl so I can do it without the whisk bending in the bowl?

I have a white bowl lift exactly like the one in the video. She and I have been together since 1980. She’s never given me a moments trouble. I cannot tell you how many hundreds of pound cakes, cookies, divinity…..I bought at least 4 or 5 for my daughters, daughter-in-law and nieces. I am going to be like an Egyptian and be buried with her, along with my favorite apron and spatula! 😊 .

What is the ranking between professional 5 plus , professional 600 and professional HD?
@ramencurry66726 ай бұрын
For families, the biggest size is best. If it’s just 2 people, the 5 Quart Artisan is good especially if you plan on making bread or pizza dough

I will be saving for the artison its just me and darling unless its a holiday. Im not likely to be able to lift it where i normally put our appliances if i got bigger ones. My school had tilt heads (I took every class i could that would feed me). I loved them. My only mixer currently is a cheap handheld electrical. I will be checking local pawn shops for a gentally used one. My brother found one early this year and loves it.

I have a bowl lift and have considered the tilt head, but the power and stability of the bowl lift outweighs the change. My only issue with KitchenAid is the noise (screeching - common with both versions), and I wish they would offer the glass and decorative bowls for the bowl lift as they do with the Artisan. Same for colors.

This is by far the worse mixer I have ever used. We bought this for $599 a year ago and had used in for less than one year and the roller stopped turning while the motor is still running. I waited a month to bring into repairs due to Covid and the holidays and the warranty had just expired. They told me this is a known problem and repair cost comes to $400+. Because the warranty expired they are not covering it. What a SCAM!! If this is a known problem, why did they focused on the marketing in selling a colourful and fancy looking mixer to the public instead of engineering a good quality mixer and fixing the inherent problem??? I will never buy another KitchenAid product ever again and will tell everyone I know to do the same. Shame on you kitchenScam!

Thanks for the video. I have the Pro 6 and it has been serving me well for nearly 13 years. Martha Martha Martha💜 I absolutely had to get a KA because of Martha 🤗. My mom had a Oster and my grandma had a Sunbeam which I have in my garage. It hasn’t been used for at least 27 years. I’m really hoping it still works. One of these days I’ll pull it out. 💜❌⭕️💜❌⭕️💜❌⭕️

Why is your Grandmother's mixer being kept in the garage? Over time the grease becomes like varnish and freezes up the beater shafts. Is the mixer showing some "scars" showing its age? for a price you can have it restored to have it looking ad working like new! Becoming something you have on your counter with pride.

Hi, I am looking to purchase stand mixer. Do you think that kitchenaid 5KPM5 can handle 2 kilos of pizza dough 70% hydration in reality? I think the 6 quart is too big for me. Usually I make 1.8 kilo of dough by hand.

are you saying that the smaller ones can sometimes vibrate enough to move themselves? i was considering getting one, but if thats true, ill have to take a hard pass on it. that is completely unacceptable.
@tagalonggal4 жыл бұрын
Sigh Phi Guy I have had a tilt head for 25 years and it has never vibrated like that, never moved itself, even when I put extra ingredients in for a double loaf of whole grain bread. The only problem I had with it then was the bread dough creeps up the dough hook. The spiral dough hook with the bowl lift mixers don’t have that problem.
@yjyjyjthumbtacks3 жыл бұрын
Mine doesn’t vibrate when mixing. More of the top head lifted up and down while mixing esp. when needing to cream butter which sometimes scares me lol cause spent too much $ and afraid of it breaking. Hahahaha.

i have a kitchen aid artisan now. it sucks at doing dough. the dough sticks to the blade like a merry go round. plus the motor sounds like it's straining. plus the thing jumps around all over the counter as the head looks like it wants to pop off🤬 while it's trying to knead the dough. opting in for a pro 6 next month🙂🙃. at 199.99 at a xmas sale one year at walmart can't complain for what there going for now😁. it's only good for cakes cookes brownies ect ect..

It’s not that hard. If the mixer is known to be light / occasional use, get the tilt. Heavy duty or unsure- get the lift design.
@mikewallace80873 жыл бұрын
Note: an electric motor is most efficient at full load amps/watts/ power. It is best to buy a machine that is suited for your actual needs. Buying a bigger brute is okay but it seems people just must have the Big Powerful Mixer. My mother used a Sunbeam Mixmaster Model 12 ...1965 version for our family of six total. It did the job. I have one of those myself and the Kitchenaid Classic 250W version. My wife liked using an electric hand mixer for the three days of her Christmas cookie baking marathon , not using the Kitchenaid. Remember, these machines are not use and toss away. They do need maintenance of changing gear grease and motor brush attention.

Can you tell me if the bowl are interchangeable? I have the Mixer KSM7 7QT bowl version that has the DC motor , but wanted to confirm if the bowls and paddles are interchangeable. If so, then I'll probably get the water jacket KN2WJ as I understand that it fits the 6QT bowl mixers.

THANKS FOR THE INFO. ALTHOUGH I PREFER A TILT HEAD FOR EASE OF USE, THERE'S ONE DISADVANTAGE THAT YOU NEGLECT TO MENTION. THE BOWL ON A TILT HEAD ALWAYS GET STUCK WHENEVER YOU'RE MIXING A DOUGH (YOU ALMOST NEED A CROW BAR TO RELEASE THE BOWL!). THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE BOWL LIFT SINCE THERE'S NO WAY THE BOWL WILL GET STUCK!

So so pretty! Life long hot pink fan, so to see a kitchenaid in hot pink-I had to go for it. I just ordered the hibiscus artisan. I already have a Bosch, so I have a workhorse for the big stuff. I wanted a pretty one for my day to day tasks, easier clean up and to pretty up my kitchen. That raspberry ice would never be moved off my counter. 🤩 Thanks for all the great reviews and content. Your videos are like sitting in my super smart friend’s kitchen and getting the scoop!

Great Video, and I just want emphasize the point you made in 12:50. If you care about you sanity, buy the one that has a DC MOTOR. AC motors are loud and are less smooth. With this simple choise, you will go from a good mixer to a great one.
@GodGunsGutsandNRA4 жыл бұрын
If either will not fit under your cabinets, then your cabinets are mounted wrong. If your tilt-head is “rocking,” then you need to adjust the head screw until it locks securely. They should not rock.

I just bought the Pro 6qt refurbished and got it for a song. I've wanted one all my life. When my mom passed family members came in and they took what they wanted. One thing they took was my mom's KitchenAid stand mixer. My mom was quite the baker. I learned to bake next to my mom. I quit baking. I'm 66yo now and my granddaughter asked me for a recipe and how to bake a cake. I started baking again after all these years. One day it'll be hers just like my Corningware sets. I just bought her her first recipe cards set and box and sent her some of my faves. A mixer for me is spending a day in the kitchen with my granddaughter baking goodies.

I have a bowl lift mixer, my brother bought me in 1986. It has never repaired. I think the bowl lift mixer has more bowl.
@janesmith78235 жыл бұрын
My pro 5 bowl lift mixer fits just perfect under my cabinets...that was a major deciding factor for me. I wanted to be able to store it and use it without pulling it out due to the tilt head. I also read over time due to the weight of the motor in the tilt head that it can become loose and wobbly and can impair some of the functionality of the speeds. I also wanted the higher wattage so the motor wouldn't burn out over time. That being said the tilt head is nice for additional ingredients I just think overall storage/usage/longevity the bowl lift is best for me! Happy baking!!
@3seasonscable_todd9404 жыл бұрын
Not sure how long you're hoping it lasts but we've had our Kitchen Aid Classic since 1985 and it's still going strong. No issues with wobbly heads, motor burn out or functionality. These are workhorses no matter what style you get...the last mixer you'll ever buy!
