Kitchenaid products seem to have steadily declined in quality over the years since the company went from hobart to whirlpool. Although the hobart kitchenaid did not make a food processor Just my impression. The mixers perform well but they are not made to last like when kitchenaid was actually made by hobart. My mother had the hobart made kitchenaid mixer for over 30 years and was still going strong when she passed away. Whirlpool corporation really decreased the quality in my opinion. Back to food processors, I have the Breville that I bought because of your review. I bought the most expensive model they make and this machine is a beast. I also have the dicing kit. I love that machine so much and there is no question of quality there. I love your reviews Amy.

Yes, KitchenAid has really gone to........ since Whirlpool took over. I never thought I'd say this, but I will NOT buy KitchenAid anything.

I had a Hobart-era 5 quart KitchenAid bowl-lift mixer. It still works perfectly, and my sister now has it. Given the bad reviews for KA mixers burning out or getting very hot when making bread dough, I wouldn't buy their mixers today, and now I feel that I wouldn't buy anything they make. This processor is definitely not in the same league as a Cuisinart or Breville.

I don't know about quality of the current KitchenAid mixer but I have a KitchenAid Hobart mixer that was my grandma's. The mixer was made in the 40's. I don't use it because I can't replace the mixing bowl. The Breville looks great.

Hi Amy & Eric!!! I'm happy you did this video. I bought a new one months ago. It's still in the box . Had to get a different shade of green. They didn't have my Apple Green. I had the 13 cup and gave it to my Son. Never even used that one. Anyways I have this 9 cup one now...I will be saving this. I just needed a smaller one. Looks real nice. Guess I'll go open mine up. Thank You so...much...Great Video!!!🦋

I have this. I only use it to shred cheese. I would rather have it than grate cheese by hand. I bought it refurbished for $35. I would not pay full price.

Thanks for another great informative video. Things aren’t what they used to be in the Kitchenaid company anymore. The small cutbacks, like removing the spring on the mixer base for attachments, has now expanded into the small chopper areas. Feeding tube too small, the mini chopper (that I purchased) was not thorough. Never totally completed the job. So I jumped onto the ninja mini chopper and works great. A self employed cook showed me the difference. Goes to show that a company cannot survive on name alone, but needs a viable product nowadays. Especially with the costs of these gadgets.

Exactly, plus the mixing attachments that chip paint and need to be replaced. My old Hobart-era KA has very tough nylon coating, and it never chip.s KA has really cheapened their line of products.

Hi Amy, this KA doesn’t do that great a job. I had the old KA 9 cup and only used it to shard cheese. I gave it to a friend. I bought the slicer/ shredder attachment to my KA Stand Mixer and it does a good job. I use my Vita Mix for chopping jobs like onions. For what you have to cut off to get the food to fit, you might as well just slice it by handThe design, but it doesn’t work well enough to spend the money on it. Thanks Amy.

i tried this and sent it back, I tried to do a small amount of dough and it almost threw itself off my island.. I grabbed it just in time! I had an old ka that finally was getting too old.. But I searched and searched, couldnt afford the breville as everyone says its the best. I tried a Braun food processor I got from amazon and Im in love with it! its so quiet which is important to me and it has multiple speeds you can choose I guess you would say.. Its light weight so I can lift it yet it doesnt go across my countertop when running.. I cant say enough about it. Im glad to hear you had the same review of this kitchenaid as I do. I always trust your videos, Thank you for taking the time.. Im so upset with ka any more, I wouldnt want any of their items. talk about going down hill!

I bought a mini Kitchen aid solely because of their reputation making amazing delightful stand mixers. it shredded cheese, and veggies ok but was not overly impressed. So I did read a fews reviews including Americas Test Kitchen when I was looking for a larger model. I was Surprised to learn that it does not come up to scratch in standard testing, and you have cemented my opinion. I bought a Cuisinart Pro instead. So far really pleased with it.😢

Hi Amy! Fellow kitchen aid addict here. I was wondering if you have gotten a chance to see the new kitchen aid artisan with premium touch points?! I have my grandmas original power plus model from the 90’s but might want to upgrade to get more watts! Maybe buy and review the new artisan?! It looks similar to the new mini but obviously full size. Been eyeing the pistachio color. Would love your thoughts! Thanks!

Breville slogan on souschef food processor package: MASTER NOT DISASTER..breville is a master..this kitchenaid is a total disaster..I preffer my uni-speed strong souschef with auto on-off mechanism while inserting and pulling out the pusher in the shute..it makes shredding and slicing hassle free.

Cuisinart, what have you done to our beloved food processor?! It looks and sounds very Mickey Mouse-ish. priced at $129 on Amazon, looks like a lot of hassle and disappointment. The Breville will always be the beast and so goes the saying, you get what you pay for.

It's a nice looking machine, I really like the "all parts fit in the bowl" design but I'm not so sure about the lid locking mechanism. It seems like it could snap after some time or when you accidentally bump it on the kitchen counter (had that happen before with other brands). I was always a Kitchenaid fan, but I'm sad to admit that the quality of their products is getting worse and worse... It kind of looks and sound cheap.

Yes, it IS 'gutless'-! Both the 9-Cup and the 7-Cup KA food processors use THE SAME, dinky motor - drawing a mere 250-watts. In fact, the only difference between their 7 & 9 cup units is the *height* of the work bowl. Both models share the same (underpowered) motor base. The other [not-so-obvious reason] for using a relatively 'tall and skinny' bowl, is to allow for that undersized motor. The smaller diameter work bowl can only accommodate small diameter blades, shredders, etc., which engages with a smaller surface area of the food, reducing the loading on the motor. And speaking of the motor - if you remove the bottom, you can see the genius of "value engineering": It's about a step-up from true garbage. As already mentioned, it has a very small motor requiring a gear train consisting of plastic/nylon gearing which clearly has a limited lifespan if the processor is placed under a constant load over a long period of time. The only real 'genius' of this design is how it accommodates all the discs/cutters inside the work bowl for storage. Eliminating the need for a bayonet-type of attachment system for the bowl and cover is "nice", but well-made food processors (the Breville being a fine example) easily demonstrate when proper engineering and manufacturing are combined, the on/off twisting motion can be easy, reliable, and never causing any false interlock issues. I bought the 7, 9 & 13 cup sizes of this latest iteration of KA food processors to compare them to one another and with other *real* food processors. I would consider the 7 & 9 cup sizes nothing more than "toys in the kitchen" - as your very thorough testing demonstrated. Even if the low-end build quality and tiny motor never cause any issues, the ridiculously tiny feed tube requires the user to "Process the food prior to using the Processor-!" Where's the benefit in that-? Not to mention the compromised results. On the other hand... I will say this - if your kitchen workspace can accommodate a *slightly* larger footprint, and you can step-up your budget a little bit, I would describe their 13-cup size processor as a "good starter" processor. Additionally, included in the unit is a dicer with about an 11mm x 11mm (⁷⁄₁₆") dice, along with an externally-adjustable slicing disc with 6 pre-set thicknesses. It also has [hold on to you hair] - a motor drawing 500-watts. And as it has a 13-cup capacity, the feed tube is finally of a size more conducive to 'food processing'. BUT it should be noted - as an example - the [usable] height of its 13-cup work bowl is about the same size as that of the 16-cup Breville so... that means in order for the Breville to accommodate those additional 3-cups, its work bowl is a *larger diameter* than the KA, allowing the Breville to incorporate an even-larger feed tube while placing more of the ingredients closer to the S-blade, producing more consistent results. (It's direct-drive motor draws 1200 watts to handle the additional bowl size and potential ingredient loading). Thanks, Amy for a fair assessment of this processor - of which you can see, I'm not exactly a fan.

I have a couple of comments, both concerning safety. 1. If you have the machine running and take off the clip, will it stop? 2. In addition to being narrow, that feed tube looks awfully short. I had the heebeejeebees when Amy's fingers were poking stuff into that feed tube.i

That snappy thing sounds like really cheap plastic, actually the entire thing sounds like it's made of cheap plastic and the snappy will probably break in no time. The blades sound tinny thin and cheap. The motor sounds like it's going to die while your testing without anything in it. I hope it's not more than $50-$100.

It is not the Aisle of Shame because of affordability. It is called that because the stuff is so good and the prices are great that you go crazy filling your cart buying a lot of stuff. Like me...buying up tons of cookware and bakeware...multiples of stuff, etc. It is looked down upon to go crazy and fill your cart with tons of stuff. It is more like a guilty pleasure lol. It is kind of like that feeling after you act crazy at a Black Friday sale. It is crazy fun digging through stuff and fighting the crowd...but afterwards you feel guilty lol. It is the impulse buying that makes it a "Walk of Shame" to the checkout line.
