Great videos. Love your relaxed style. Could you do a video of your bar setup? I'm experimenting with alternatives to the commercial bars and would appreciate seeing what works for you. Thanks Drew

thanks ! glad you enjoy de videos. ´The bar is pretty simple. Just a 20mm diameter carbon bar, 2mm thick wall, no flag release. Just a quick release to get rid of the whole kite if things get pretty ugly. Flag release is a personal choice that each rider must evaluate himself. In my case that I ride small Clouds that are depowered a lot by just letting the bar go, I don't see the need for flag release. But I understand the potencial safety issue in some circumstances.My bars do not have a central hole. They have a rotating ring that is always aligned with the central line, so I can sheet in and out at the same time I turn the kite without the typical friction of the line going through the hole. The grip is 3D printed in polyurethane, with oval shape and finger grips at 45º to fit the most common hand position, and a pocket for the thumb finger in the central part when I go one handed. So minimalistic but super efficient and ergonomically designed. I'll make a video about it

@@glidejunkie Thanks for the quick reply. Could you show a picture of your bar without the hole. It's hard to imagine how the rotating ring works without seeing it. In your videos you hand is mostly in the centre of the bar so hard to see the how the ring workd. Much appreciated, Drew

@@DrewInBrissie @glidejunkie Yes please. A quick video of your bar setup would be great. If you would like to share your .stl files for the 3d prints that would be awesome. Or sell them if you want to get some of your time expense back.

Awesome video, thanks for sharing! How do you wrap up your carbon bar? And where’d you get the materials for the bar itself?
@glidejunkie5 ай бұрын
Thanks mate, I wrap the lines around the ends of the bar, first 5-6 wraps in one end, and then one wrap in each end, crossing through the center. I will have to make a video about my bar set up... I use this kind of carbon tube which is 20mm x 16mm (2mm thick wall): amzn.to/3z70JcM I really trust this extra thickness and it is much stronger than the usual 1mm thick wall. I wouldn't trust a 1mm thick wall tube. It may look strong enough, but the holes make it weaker. I 3d print my own bar grips with a large volume printer like this: amzn.to/45kVanl . I actually use an older model, but that's the one I would buy now. I use TPU filament like this: amzn.to/3VmhtED.

Have you tried newer models of the Cloud kites? Im thinking to get myself one and not sure if it fly differently compare to the one are you using in this video.
@glidejunkie6 ай бұрын
My Clouds are the D model but have the E bridle upgrade. I haven't tried the newest model that has just been released which has the lighter and stiffer material in some parts of the leading edge. But I have just hear from the Facebook Cloudriders group that the new model turns even faster. And it is a tad lighter too, so I am sure the newest models are great too. Greg only releases new model when he is sure the improvement is worthwhile after many prototypes tests.

@@glidejunkie Thank you! I'm currently riding single strut Cabrinha Contras and lately had a chance to try some Cloud kites (D model just like yours) and liked it a lot. I also tried Slingshot UFOs (similar sizes) and somehow didn't liked it at all. Feels much slower/heavier compare to the Clouds. So I'm seriously thinking of getting myself some Clouds now.
@glidejunkie6 ай бұрын
@@crocodile172 some early UFOs came with very short rear pigtails which made them stall easily and lousy handling. It was solved with an extra 20-25cm pigtail. Make sure you didn't test one of the faulty units. The newer models are supposed to be good, similar concept to Clouds, but a little less drift, and behave a little more like a normal strutted kite. If you tried Clouds and you liked them, that's the way to go.
@crocodile1726 ай бұрын
@@glidejunkie I tried UFO v2. It was not back stalling but felt very grunty comparing to Cloud and even my Contras. With Clouds I can do those little helicopters easily and looks like not even possible with UFOs.

@@crocodile172I have ufo v2. I love it. It turns so fast, easy to loop. I agree it has silver grunt- which is good bc I can switch to twin tip of the wind picks up

What mount do you use to the insta360 camera, how long is the pole? Tnx
@glidejunkie6 ай бұрын
I use this swivel mount: amzn.to/4ccU3Z9. I am planning to make an improved DIY version with ceramic bearings, but the original one works well. I opened it and put marine grease on the bearing so it lasts longer in marine environment.. The pole is about 1m, but held at the middle point, so it only extends about 0.5m. I put a counterweight at the other end to balance it. This would be a good carbon tube for this purpose: amzn.to/4egoWxC

Ok and how do you get the mount firmly affixed to your helmet?
@glidejunkie6 ай бұрын
@@SnwbrdB I use an aluminum gopro mount bolted to the helmet, similar to this: es.aliexpress.com/item/33019593141.html?src=google&src=google&albch=shopping&acnt=439-079-4345&slnk=&plac=&mtctp=&albbt=Google_7_shopping&albagn=888888&isSmbAutoCall=false&needSmbHouyi=false&albcp=20330803848&albag=&trgt=&crea=es33019593141&netw=x&device=c&albpg=&albpd=es33019593141&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw_qexBhCoARIsAFgBlesAwrcbdcnt1Z4I1bjEPwy0as1xCtXypVAZFqku4hxXfIhGEG9l6G8aAuoeEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&aff_fcid=18c7267eff3b43248472499a22b42ac7-1714090101776-00784-UneMJZVf&aff_fsk=UneMJZVf&aff_platform=aaf&sk=UneMJZVf&aff_trace_key=18c7267eff3b43248472499a22b42ac7-1714090101776-00784-UneMJZVf&terminal_id=f5a9b437f92743069d5f962b0e8aa0de&afSmartRedirect=y
