Why Do People Look Younger Than They Used To?

Have you noticed that people today often look much younger than people of the same age did decades ago? It’s not just an internet meme. Research suggests that we really are changing the way we’re aging.
You may have heard of “The Brimley Line,” where people contrast the late actor Wilford Brimley’s … mature appearance at the age of 50 with how people today often remain youthful-looking well into middle age.
The Brimley Line may have started as an internet meme, but it reflects a real trend: In recent decades, a series of scientific advancements have led to longer lifespans, better health, and, yes, even slower aging.
A 2018 study found that the “biological age” for Americans over 60 declined by about four years between 1988 and 2010.
Another study found that the proportion of seniors with mobility issues fell by about 14% between 2008 and 2017, while those struggling with daily activities declined by over 20%.
And that’s on top of the massive medical breakthroughs that have made everything from heart attacks to pneumonia less lethal.
Changes in lifestyle have also made a difference. Today, fewer people work jobs with grueling physical labor, fewer people smoke, and more people wear sunscreen, all of which directly affect the visible signs of aging.
Bottom line: The story of how we’ve slowed down aging is really a story of scientific triumphs. Except for when it comes to Paul Rudd. Even we can’t explain that one.

Better health for people I can agree, but those examples provided for how much younger people look today were all rich celebrities who could afford the best cosmetic procedures to look young, and they weren't in jobs that involved hard labor.

People live softer lives. People have more vitamins and balanced nutrition. People are more immature. You'd never catch my grandfather playing video games or talking like a teenager. People today pamper themselves physically like only Royalty used to in the past. The toil of physical labor is different than going to the gym. Life was serious. Everything wasn't a joke. Everything wasnt provided so easily. No Welfare. The average modern person lives pretty comfortably. In war torn poverty stricken countries they don't look so young. We're spoiled and coddle ourselves. And our faces don't have have the look of wisdom...more childish. I am not sure it's better. In fact, as for character....we have grossly devolved. Twisted mentally....but good looking.

I would say it’s generational, lifestyles and cultural shifts in the time period can affect the appearance of aging, if we look at different countries and their history we can always see periods that can change our aging process. currently generation Z is considered to be aging terribly because the popularity of substances /partying. There’s also a video on this how “generation z is aging terribly”.

As someone who has always been told I look much younger than my biological age, I can assure you 2 things that I controlled that contributed to it starting at age 14: 1.) I used sunscreen whenever I was going to be outside for prolonged periods of time & 2.) I kept my skin, especially my neck & face moisturzed every single day. I'd always try to buy facial moisturizer with the highest SPF sunscreen in it. The other contributing factor out of my control: good ol' blessed genetics. Nobody in my family looks their bio age.
