Ocean Rodeo Review | Aluula Roam vs Dacron Roam

Aluula kite material is the talk of the town. So we had to feel this. What are the differences between Aluula & Dacron? Do we feel different kite characteristics? We got our hands on a set of Ocean Rodeo Roam kites with Aluula material and a Roam with the normal Dacron material. You compared the Aluula kite to a 1st gen Roam, that 9.5 m Roam you are using is two models old and very different to the 2020 Dacron Roam. I also have flown the Aluula 10 m Roam and it does not overfly your head at 12 o'clock, any other kite in similar conditions would have turned upside down and fell out of the sky. I thought your review to be lazy, there are many other better reviews of this kite on youtube. I got the feeling you may like the materiel but not the design elements of this particular model.

Love you guys @kitefinder - have ridden the 10m Roam in Aluula agree it's very light and quick turning but thought it was small IMHO (it did fit inside the 9.5 in your review) I'm sure the crew at OR would cringe at some of your comments, but that's why we love you guys - don't take anything too serious it's just a kite. :)

I have been waiting for a direct comparison, thank you. Sounds like the light wind characteristics (loft and relaunch) are pretty similar, correct? What would you say the real benefit of the aluula is? Just quickness of handling?

Hi, handling mostly kite design but the Aluula material has some great advantages for the designer. He can make the frame lighter, stiffer & more reactive kite. Then you have the durability but we couldn't test that one but that would be an extra advantage.

Definitely is a real advance in kiteboarding technology or materials. I hope the cost can be reduced in the future.

The real difference is in the canopy not so much the leading edge.. the stretching is so bad on inflatables. 4 months and the kite is 20% less performance especially in the big kites

a kite is made from a lot of diffrent materials that give it a lot of diffrent variables. First you have to ask yourself if you like how it flies and if that fits the way you like to ride. It you can answer this with a mmmm and this is the best experience ever.. then it would be a Yes because the extra € 800,- will buy you happiness... .but choosing it just for the material proporties where only part of the kite is made off.. then it would be a No.. The aluula material could give some new design oppertunities but for now there are many other kites with thin leading edges (ozone always makes tiny tubes) and you can pump up a Naish kite to a recommended 11psi with normal Dacron... So it is an OK kite with cool innovative material but it is just a start with the design options... Same happend with Flysurfer when they started using there "deluxe" material.. first they just build a existing model with new material and later on they started really designing with it with the sonic.. and now they take it further with the "lotus" material. And that can be all nice but if you don't like the feel of a flysurfer you still better buy something else ;)

Ocean rodeo are rubbish kites thou. I flew them in Vietnam. Rubbish design. Game changer my arse. Who is gona pay another 1000 for something that dispears over your head. No one in the free style world rides em.
