I did a waterstart session today, and I wish I had watched your tutorial before, thank you,it's by far the best tutorials 💯
@pku22225 жыл бұрын
By far the best instructions (in person or on video) I've seen on the nuts-and-bolts of water start. I'm still a newb and waterstarting has always seemed to involve a bit of "black magic" and luck. Many instructors and fellow kiters have said it's just a matter of practice and you'll get it eventually. Probably. However, I've always thought it is better to understand the physics and precise timing and control of various maneuvers, power and body positions in order to execute a successful waterstart in all kinds of conditions. Without that understanding you might wind up practicing the wrong things over and over again. This video breaks down all of that (yeah, all that happen under two-freaking-seconds!) Appreciate it!

Seriously, guys. You make the best tutorials. One quick thing is super-emphasize is to make small corrections with your board (not your kite)

Really nice drone work seeing the kite and the rider in the frame. It is great that it is high enough resolution to see what the rider is doing with the bar. Good job.

As a struggling beginner, i'd say the thing that helped me the most was pointing the nose of the board in the direction of the kite pull when you dive it. Obviously without putting weight on that front foot and diving the nose under. I always saw people riding sideways (crosswind) and thought 'oh so i just dive the kite and go sideways'. Go downwind towards the kite pull first, then turn crosswind 😄

I am just a beginner. For me it is really important to steer the kite aggressively enough to get a hard pull while the kite is still quite high. This pulls me nicely up out of the water. If the power comes at a low angle, then I just skid along the water because the vertical component of the force is just too small in comparison to the horizontal component. I noticed that my instructor was always up on his feet before the kite dipped down below 45 degrees.
@Dowell318 Жыл бұрын
It's not fair! You make it look so easy! I can't hardly get up on my board, but I suspect that's because my foot straps are too small. Getting some new ones soon. God you make it look easy - it's not!!! This is HARD!!! lol.

Great video.I'd love to see a second advanced part of this to show how to waterstart and ride in light wind. Concentrating on better power diving and moving kite more efficiently in light winds, trimming the kite for light winds may be. Obviously the board handling can be slightly different too? Common mistakes and problems in light wind and how to work around them - may be? Just a thought.

I am watching all these videos in prep for actual lessons. I want to know what is going on and why and self practice in my living room. Your vids really give good body mechanics advice on the how and why aspect. This will help me save money and get more out of each live lesson. Could you maybe produce a lesson on what good used gear looks like. I see the clearance gear from the last years are a good deal. When buying a board if it was a quality board then it most likely still is. Kites that is what I would like to learn about when buying used. I want to get a kit together without breaking the bank. I will probably mix and match with an emphasis on quality with bargain prices, I hunt. I like Naish and I see Slingshot a lot and Liquid Force?? What are your thoughts on gear and the build quality. Your making a difference and keep up the good work, good day.
@kitesurfcollege8 жыл бұрын
I'm going to make an equipment selection guide soon. It will explain the different kite shapes and who they are suitable for. I would recommend one of the more established kite brands for sure, Core, slingshot, cabrinha etc. There are many relatively new brands, who maybe have move in from other sports, and their equipment doesn't last well and has poor flying characteristics.

This is Aruba, has some nice spots and very reliable wind - but actually the main spot in the video has a lot of rocks and reef very close downwind, which means it's not ideal for beginners. If you make a mistake, you could run into these hazards quickly. We mainly use it as there's not much to fly the drone into nearby.

Hi!, I see the video is on Aruba!, Can you tip me out for spots, hours, and rules? What spots is on the 2:58 ?? The rule for kiting until 9am in baby beach is still valid? Thank you!! Have a trip in 2 weeks so any help is welcome. Thanks again
@kitesurfcollege7 жыл бұрын
No problem. 2:58 is boca grande. Baby beach, unfortunately, is pretty much banned these days, the police will often stop you from kiting there even if it's 6am and no-one else is in the water.

I am an ok windsurfer, will this help to learn this?
@kitesurfcollege7 жыл бұрын
Hello wgv. Generally, windsurfing experience does not help when learning to kitesurf. The control of the kite is completely different. In fact, many windsurfers learn slower than average, as they have a tendency to cling to the bar, when they should hold the bar lightly.

How much the kite and the baord cost???
@kitesurfcollege6 жыл бұрын
It varies a lot depending on quality, and year of release. The board from $400 to around $1k, and the kite $1k to $2k. Second hand you can get much cheaper deals, but you need to know what you're looking for.

personal experience kiss very good video i like and is healpfull very tecnocal but is one of the way not the best way for intermediate beginner in the learning proces because the 12 clock waterstart is not efficent . realy good video for indipendet kiters thet already know how to start from 11 and 13 clock so the board point down wind no realy thet easy if you start at 12 best to start at 11 or 13 the call stady pull so you lear not to spinn under the kite and the board will point 45 dgreed . beginner dont need to cross the red power zone . very good tips for not crashing the kite on over stearing and correct handling wath is coud be the probmel is the start at 12 clock the zen you need to pull hard the bar to stearing whit if you place the kite in the sweet spot 45 dgreed dive the kite and dont bring the kite at 12 again nononononon no . some correct some not correct for beginner . and meaby for indipendent ridre thet know the rigth way how to waterstart . 45 dgreed kiss. is good video well made 12 clock it work but only if you hare already indipendent kiters . most case scenario .

Start by learning to fly power kites, they're great fun and will teach you about the wind. Get at least a 2.5m foil to start training with take it to the beach whenever you go, you'll learn to respect the wind.

@@grieverx8670 of course! I love kiting and fell in love with it when I first tried a modern power foil. Look at Prism 2 line power kites, they're a little pricey for what they are but great to get you into it, I started with a 1.8 and 2.5.. if you're not too heavy be ready!
