This explains 7 different kiteboarding accidents in detail. Hopefully learning from these will help people avoid the mistakes of the past.
Thanks so much to all of the uploaders. It's not easy to show the world your worst moments, but your clip may well save someone's life. Power kites are complex, powerful and often counter-intuitive - your best way of staying safe is to take plenty of lessons.

I have watched a lot of videos on kite surfing this year as Im new to the sport and on my 6th lesson and I have to say Kite-Surf-College Tutorials are the closest you will get to actually having lessons which is a MUST for this sport. Thank you for your efforts in make these tutorials. Respect the wind it will always win!

Agree with everything except for it's a "MUST" to have lessons. With so many KZbin tutorials, you really don't need lessons if you do your research and better to spend that money on gear. Greetings.

@@x78340 I think you can learn Kitesurfing together with an experienced friend, but you should not try learning it all by yourself. You're putting not only your own life but also the life of others at risk.

What a diction ! 🙂 Seeing on the guy standing next to his kite at self launch attempt, the last kiter is just too stupid for the sport. He's not an exception unfortunately.

Great video. A lot of salutary lessons here. I've been kiting for 18 years...not regularly...and since I had a death loop in the water yesterday it reawoke me to how quickly things can go wrong. Thanks for making and posting.👍

Great video with analysis. I have developed for myself a pre-launch very quick checklist (2 second) that I am using all the time and it helps me to avoid silly mistake. It's spelled KITE and it's symbolic. K is for checking (K)Quick Release, put my hand on it to know where it is and which direction to eject, so I don't have to find it. I is for checking the LINES, straight, no twist and correctly hooked T is for checking the SafeTy leash for being correctly hooked up E is for checking the Environment, wind, people, other kiters, hard obstacles on land, etc. It takes me 2 seconds to check while the launcher helper is holding the kite, since I use my hand to run through the list. I have stopped few mishaps before they happened with this checklist. I just post it here so you can develop your own checklist and FWIW

I love this video. I am nearly 50 years and Kite for 3 years and consider myselve unexperienced. I witnessed a very nasty Kitemare from an unexperienced young kiter while launchingnhis Kite way to coureagous. We had to pull his tongue out of his throat to avoid he would suffocate, his cheekboan and nose were broken and he was unconcious for nearly 5 minutes. He is alright now. However it made us extra aware of the fact that launching a Kite is no joke and must be taken utterly serious. It is very important to check your lines and surroundings under every condition, and take your time.

THE FLYING DUTCHMAN Here is another nearly 50-er, which just had 3 blocks lessons on beautiful Sardinia. How is the learning curve for us? These videos do make you aware of the risks and the way you should always use the safety steps. I have 2 sons, 14 and 16, who also need to start learning, which I will show them this video. great tips. Where are you kiting, at sea or in country? I will be at Strand Horst/Friesland. I had a close call in Boracay early this year due to the tangled powerline. (I was in a hurry to go out to save/help my windsurfer friend who was stuck in the rip currents where coral reeves were sharp and shallow). I was able to release the leash within 2 seconds when I realized I was in trouble although I got lifted about 3-4 ft in the air. Other than my ego, I did not get hurt. People will always think that something like this will happen only to other people until it happens to you.. (Thank you so much for the important info!!)

Rearrange your safety so it fully releases kite if you pull it. Just letting go of the bar will stop 80-90% of the power. If this doesn’t work something Is f’d up and the first release won’t do anything. Your kite is not worth your life

Thank you for these videos, wish I had watched more of them when i was learning! Kitemare scenario typical of gusty Utah. Wind stops, kite stalls into power zone, Force V gust comes and hot launches you into the next dimension. I also wore a raft helmet and Dakine floaty vest when i was learning. Of course you will look like the regional ambassador of Kook nation but as a beginner you gotta take every precaution so you can live to kite another day!

Thanks a lot for putting this up. I've been kiting since 2000 and was lucky to never have had an accident or even dangerous situation. I came from paragliding where neglect can be fatal. Check your material, check your lines, let yourself help by others on the beach. Admittedly not every beach offers helping hands especially in over commercialized spots it is sometimes hard to find someone helping you start your kite. I've seen people with jet skies on the beach where a kiter was kilometers away from the beach and going offshore when asking them they pretended to see nothing. When pointing to the fact that they are refusing their duty to help they got a little nervous and started the engines. Even before starting your session make sure that someone could take care of you if things go south.

Would also like to see one on launching with the kite too far upwind. I've seen so many new kiters have kites rolling over other kites and people. Before giving a thumbs up make sure the kite isn't fluttering from being underpowered. The kite should be steerable and literally trying to launch out of the launchers hand.
