What a nice spot, flat, waves, views, mountains, everything 👌😀, how come there are not other people kiting?
@kitesurfcollege3 жыл бұрын
Hi VeganEvo, good question, there's probably a few reasons. There's not many local kiters here. It's more of a surf spot than a kiting spot. Also a lot of the local kiters have a 9m or 10m as their biggest kite, as the wind around here can pick up dangerously quickly. Also, it's winter so the sun goes down about the time most people finish work or maybe the locals can't handle the cold - says the guy with a semi-dry fleece-lined wetsuit ;-)

Hi mate, love your page and this video, how is your set up to get this kind of footage while being alone?
@Pete_R633 жыл бұрын
@@yohanbrebion3851 That is the beauty of a 360 degree camera. He has it on a slim pole mounted to him and the camera gets everything and then he chooses what direction he wants to focus on. I have several 360 degree videos on my channel. You can post the video so the viewer can watch the whole thing, meaning, if you watch on an iPhone or an iPad, as you turn the device, you are looking in a different direction or if you are on a computer you can use the arrow keys to look in different directions. You can also choose to make a 'flat' video like this one. Look at the last two videos on my channel. I posted a 1 minute zipline in full 360 and then the same zipline run as a 'flat' video. One time while snowboarding, I was holding the pole behind me and a guy skis up to me yelling, "Dude! Your camera! It's not pointed at anything!" and I yelled back that it is a 360 camera so it is pointed at EVERYTHING! The nature of the 360 camera and software effectively 'erases' the pole it is mounted upon. In some videos, in the proper sunlight and angle, you will see the shadow of the pole on the ground but not see the pole in the person's hand. It is amazing! I hope this helps. Cheers

@@Pete_R63 mate, all what you just wrote seems amazing, I am definetely gonna check more about it and the videos on your channel. Already checked the price today and I got scared tho' 😂 but it seems worth the money when you like outdoors activity! Thanks a lot for your answer 🤙

@@yohanbrebion3851 You are very welcome! I am a huge GoPro fan - I own about 30 of them but their original 360 cam, the Fusion was just too expensive. (I ended up buying one when they dropped the price to less than half but I still haven't used it) At the time the Insta360 ONE came out. It had most of the features of the GoPro but was a LOT cheaper. It is still a great camera and I was using mine heavily until only about a year ago or so (even though I have the ONE R, ONE X, and now ONE X2 which is the camera in this video). I haven't looked lately but a couple years ago, I bought my ONE off of ebay almost new for $160. The one downside to 360 is the resolution. Even though it is shooting in 5.7K or higher for some newer cams, it is trying to capture everything in a big sphere or field of view with only those pixels as opposed to a flat framed image. It is so cool watching a zipline or a snowboard run you just did on your iPhone and swiping with your finger to see what is on the left or the right or look up at the sky or watch your shadow zipping across the ground. There is so much possibility. I used to strap at least 3 GoPros on me when I zipline and now 360 has made me lazy and I just carry the 360 on a pole and maybe a GoPro as backup. If there is anything else I can answer - feel free to ask. I don't know all that much but I do know these cameras are revolutionary! Have a good one!

This was filmed with the One X2, which is a 360 camera. The camera is held using a backpack that has an arm sticking out of it. The arm holds the camera about 1m behind your head, so you get a 3rd person perspective like a computer game. The arm must be straight. If the arm is bent, it shows in the 360 video. The software only removes a straight selfie pole directly under the camera. There are various backpacks with straight self poles sticking out. Or you can get a harness with a mount for a selfie pole also. I had a "shoot" backpack but I had to modify it as the arm it comes with originally has a bend in it. The camera I choose was an Insta360 One X2 rather than a gopro max, as the one x2 has much clearer video and it weighs less which is handy for backpack mounts. If you want to find out more about this little camera, have a look here: www.insta360.com/sal/one_x2?insrc=INRJ30U

This is so good mate! Basically you have created a video that everyone needs to see in regards to special awareness. I love how you explain your reasoning for doing things. We are 'pilots of the ocean' and really need to do risk analyses everytime we go for a session. Is it shallow? Are the waves strong? Is the wind gusty? What are my escape routes should something go wrong? Am I capable to swim walk back? Is there anyone downwind of me before I do new tricks etc... Absolutely brilliant content! Your channel is what IKO is going to pay you for to keep kiters "current". This term is used for helicopter pilots who haven't flown for a while and need to get current with an instructor - almost like a refresher course.

@kitesurfcollege3 жыл бұрын
HI Evan, good question. I just answered that one, so I will be lazy and copy/paste that here for you:
@kitesurfcollege3 жыл бұрын
It's with a backpack, that has an arm sticking out of it. The camera was a One X2 not a max. The one x2 is lighter weight and the video is sharper.

Have you tried a line mount with this? I'm curious how that would look.
@kitesurfcollege Жыл бұрын
Hi Mark. I haven't tried it. I'm pretty sure that you generally wouldn't get any better results with a 360 camera on a line mount than a standard gopro or action camera on a line mount. An action cam will generally have a clearer picture in a smaller FOV, and you are typically using a small FOV to fit in the rider with a line mount. The main advantage of the 360 is that you can reframe and fit in what you need, but a line mount will point the camera at you automatically. Plus a wide FOV shot showing kite and kiter from a line mount would be awkward to watch. The 360 will automatically level the video, which is nice. But most newer action cameras automatically horizon level too, and you can horizon level in editing with older action cameras. You will be able create some new angles with the 360, and if you lines slack briefly, you can keep yourself in the shot. So there are a few advantages to 360 footage, but for standard line-mounted, rider-facing shots a good action camera will be superior. Let me know if you try it out.

Do you keep your One X2 in a protective case while kiteboarding?
@kitesurfcollege2 жыл бұрын
Hi Will. I don't have the dive case, would like to try it. I did try the lens guards at first, but they tended to collect extra water droplets around the edges of the guard. So I took them off and keep the rubber cover over the X2 until I'm ready to use it.
