Despite some shots where it's obvious they're using stunt cars (like where you can see KITT with a round steering wheel), I just love how action sequences like these were done with real vehicles and helicopters and no miniatures. This is why I think Season 1 is my favourite season of the original Knight Rider series (even though there were a couple times where they did use miniatures). While Seasons 2-4 also did actual stunts, it felt like there were times where those seasons relied heavily on miniatures than real stunt vehicles. But at the end of the day, I still love the show.

I can only imagine all of the logistical complexities that were involved in filming all those stunt sequences, and the amount of safety precautions they had to take behind-the-scenes. And on a side note, apparently the helicopter used in this scene - registration N764CL - is still around as of today, according to a quick Google search, and has been using for filming in other movie productions as well.

Every time I start watching this clip, I think the same thing, "Why not just land the helicopter?" But then I realize that it's most likely, because of the overall series plot and what the show was ultimately about (bringing criminals who operate above the law to justice and taking them out of commission,) I realize that crashing the helicopter and, thus, destroying it is the best, if not only solution, in keeping the criminals from ever being able to use it again. That's my take.

Anyway, having been born in 1977, I grew up watching this show and loved every minute of it. So I was really sad when it ended. Several other commenters have said that there was a 2008 series. I didn't know that. I'm sad I missed it. I will have to see if I can find it and watch it to see if I would like it. I've been thinking of the original series for quite a while now, thinking how cool the technology would be if the series was rebooted in this day and age. But then I think of what the writing/scripting, acting, directing, producing, etc. would be like and determine it would all be crappy. Therefore, the series would be totally unwatchable. Oh well! A person can dream and hope...right?

Because it's a reused shot from another episode. They did that a lot during the series to save money. In the pilot episode the blew up a small private jet and then a season or two later they wrote a script so they could make use of the same footage.
