Kittens with Cerebellar Hypoplasia Remind Owners to Vaccinate Pets

A Colorado State University veterinary student rescued two kittens facing certain euthanasia because they were born with cerebellar hypoplasia, a brain disorder that prevents normal movement. The student provides intensive physical therapy to help her kittens. As the little cats progress, the vet student reminds people to vaccinate their pets - a critical step that would have prevented the brain disorder in these kittens.

I think shelters need to be educated about CH cats and kittens, so they won't be euthanized. Just because these cats have a disability, the people at shelters think that they will never be adopted. So I think education is the key to bring about more awareness to this disorder, and maybe more CH cats and kittens will be adopted. This was a good video. Thanks for posting. I agree. That wheelchair is a good idea.

I have a cat with CH that was rescued from a shipyard. She's not as bad as these guys but has issues with running and jumping. She is one of the most loved cats I have ever had. She will be 6 yrs old in a few months and is very healthy and active.

My CH kitten was born to a feral mom. I didn’t get mom but was able to rescue Freddie! With exercise she gets stronger every day! She is mild CH -walks with a wobble- periodic seizures- not often only if stressed.

What made me look this up I saw a cat in the parking lot of the restaurant near my house and it was walking with a limp & bobbling head and me and my daughter nurse was like it must be something neurological and I found this when I started researching

My mother is a veterinarian technician. We have a kitten like this at her workplace right now. Her owner brought her in and was ready to euthanize her. I told the little kitten she came to the right place if she's not neurotypical. We're all a little crazy! The owner didn't want her anymore, so we found her a good home with someone who specializes in disabled animals.

Is this something that can develop after several weeks of what seems like normal function in a kitten? My kitten developed a head tilt and is ataxic with nystagmus. The vet gave meds for inner ear infection, but it seems really severe. Thoughts?

Feral cats don’t have a chance -unless someone in their neighborhood takes responsibility to get them vetted and ‘fixed’ w/o kindness and caring neighborhoods they don’t get any care at all. They need continuous feeding,shelter and at least that 1 vet visit. Diatomaceous earth (food grade) sprinkled on their food will help with parasites
