He is amazing and talks so clear. My parakeet Zazu is starting to talk :-) he is 4 months old and such a blessing :-) they are amazing Parrots. I get crap all the time from people telling me parakeets can not talk and they are not parrots. People should really educate themselves about these tiny parrots because they are amazing.

Christopher Tradeshow Do you give him/her any attention when he/she screams? even one word, or look and even just being in the same room can reinforce the naughty screaming behavior. If it's unacceptable to you and you want it to stop, you have to train *YOURSELF* by leaving the room as soon as the screaming starts, when he/she stops, immediately enter the room and reward the good behavior of being quiet. You have to be consistent and persistent with this otherwise it just confuses the bird and it won't stop.

Infernal Cookie I have the sweetest lovebird that will only let me handle her. If its anyone else trying to pet her she will become hostile and start to growl and bite. 😂
@coolcatjk30
@coolcatjk30 7 жыл бұрын
How often do you hold him/her. Does the Lovebird spend a lot of time outside their cage? Because if it doesn't, then they only ever feel safe inside their cage. I recommend on days your going to be home for awhile and can keep an eye on the bird just leave the cage door open, with some millet or treats on top of the cage, and just let it explore on its own. Eventually it's curiosity will get the better of him and he will leave the cage, but you want to make sure that NOTHING bad could or will happen. Make sure no cats or dogs etc. will bother it. Cause then it will learn to never leave the cage. Once it becomes comfortable outside the cage without any treats on top the cage, start giving it treats by hand, or where he can see that your the one putting the food in top. The important thing is that it starts associating you with food. I see too many people just think that because your the one putting food in the bowl/ dish whatever. That they have already associated you with food. But that is not true, they have associated the food bowl and the cage as a source of food. Which is one of the reason they feel safe in the cage. TLDR, if you start giving the bird food in places outside the cage and from you directly, it will learn to trust you and start being comfortable outside the cage.
@vayermenoviko0linixD
@vayermenoviko0linixD 7 жыл бұрын
Never. He doesn't let us hold him, he sees our hands or us moving and he moves away, the only way to hold him is to chase him around the cage or throwing a cloth onto him if he is out of his cage but I don't like doing that. He is not very curious, he gets out of his cage for a few times in each room but once he is used to it he doesn't get out of the cage for days or until I move him to another room. Plus I can't find spray millet anywhere and he doesn't like foods other than his mix and bread (and he's not crazy about it either). I'm desperate, I just let him do his thing now and just wish for him to realize I won't harm him. People have told me that some birds decide to show trust and affection to their owners after years and years of being wild so that's what I'm hoping for at this point. I've had him for 7 months now and his behaviour towards me hasn't changed at all.
@coolcatjk30
@coolcatjk30 7 жыл бұрын
Infernal Cookie it doesn't have to be Millet. Anything that is their favorite treat will work. And yea you want to avoid chasing the bird. You have to remember these animals are prey animals, and that kind of behaviour will make the bird think that you are a predator, and not a flock member. Another common way to get them comfortable with you is to make ur presence known for good things. What I always do with a new bird is when they are first getting used to their new environment, is to approach the cage and as I approach I'm talking to the bird the entire time. The reason is because you never want to sneak up on them and spook them. Goes back to that whole predator behaviour thing. Another way you can acciociate food, is open their cage and put food from the inside into their food bowl. Close the cage and immediately walk away. It's best to do this with their favorite kind treat or food. During this excersise it's crucial you do not try and touch the bird or pick up the bird. Just put the treat in the bowl close the cage and walk away. I recommend doing this for at least a week, but every bird is its own individual, and is different. You will know you are making progress when your bird starts to no longer try and nip or bite when u have ur hand in the cage. If after a week you don't see any changes then keep trying and only put food in the bowl and close cage door and leave. If you notice improvement, then the next step is trying to give the bird food directly from your hand, this can be done by either putting the food directly in ur palm and with an open palm present the food to ur bird, or u can hold it with ur index finger and thumb and try giving it to the bird. Never ever force the bird in doing something it doesn't want to do including taking the food from ur hand. Trying to pick it up etc. Because all that will do is teach the bird not to trust you. You want your bird to think that you being around is a good thing, and that will never happen if you try and force your bird to do things it doesn't want to do. Once you have tried to give the treat to the bird and it takes it from you, keep doing this over and over multiple times a day for about a week. If at any point you notice they are going back to the old aggressive behaviour it means your trying to quickly, and go back a step is what I would do. Quick example your bird stops trying to bite you when you put food in the bowl so you try and give it a treat but it tries bite you when you do that, stop trying to give it treats and just go back to putting food in the cage close the door and walk away. You are trying to build the trust not break it. Once they start taking the food from your hand every time. The next step is trying to tempt the bird to jump up on ur hand with it's favorite treat. Hold the treat just out of reach from the bird and place your free hand between the treat and the bird. Basically you want to do it in a way that if they want to get the treat they have to perch up on ur hand. Don't force the bird to go on to ur hand, let it choose to go on to ur hand to get the treat. This is the hardest step, if they just sit on their perch and don't move, or do anything that is ok. You still have made progress, because it's no longer trying to bite you. Also most people would be tempted to remove the bird from the cage once it perches on ur hand. Don't do that, just let it chill on ur hand and when it decides enough is enough it will hop off and just close the cage and walk away. This could be a few seconds or a few minutes, remember we want the choice to be on the bird and let it do what it wants to. Once they reliably step up and take the food the next step is move you hand around a few inches inside the cage, do this slowly. This will get the bird used to movement on your hand. After a few days of this last step then you can try and remove them from their cage. I know I've given some advice that conflicts with my previous comment, especially about the food bowl. But that's why I clarified on making sure that when u put food in the bowl it's from the inside of the cage. Too many cages have the type of food bowl that can be removed from the outside, and this is when the associate food with the bowl and not the person. Also google what kind of fruits and veggies are safe for your bird. And see what they like, once you find something that is different from their everyday food that they love, this speed up the process tremdously. The point of this training process is to keep the stress level of the bird at a minimum. Again don't rush anything, take your time. I will be honest this process is a lot faster with a new baby bird than with an adult. And it sounds like your bird has already associated you with bad things. It can be fixed but it will just take more work and time. Also just curious how is their cage set up. Is it against a wall and off the ground? With blankets over it? Because how the cage is set up can either increase or decrease their stress level. Remember these are prey animals, and it's considered unnatural for them to see us as a flock member and not predators. And what I mean by unnatural is that it's a taught behaviour to trust us. Birds are not dogs or cats that instinctivally trust us. That kind of trust has to be taught. Last thing during this time the bird is going to be in its cage for awhile, but we don't want to be cruel about it. Birds are social animals, so during the time of trying to give it treats, etc. Talk to ur bird from the outside of the cage. Don't put ur face super close, just close enough where they can see you and just talk to them. Make kissing noises and whistle etc. When I say walk away I mean that, but that doesn't mean to neglect or ignore them, it just means give them their space.

That is the deepest voice I've heard on a budgie! Kinda cool. My voice is pretty high; so my budgie's voice is even higher haha, sounds like he's on helium sometimes

How do u get your bird to talk? How do you get them comfortable around you and not scared? Iv had my 2 parakeets for over a month now and they are still afraid and dont like talking or coming out of their cage. They do talk a lot to each other in their cage tho

Well it’s because you have two parakeets. They only need each other in their world. 😃You need to have only one so that he will bond with you better. Spend lots of time with him and make sure his environment is clean and that your budgie is well fed and plenty of clean water. Start with a male parakeet they will learn to mimic your voice and other sounds much better.

When they are baby’s and you feed them, they get tame and attach to the owners . All birds when baby’s are very easy to tame . Food does miracles for a baby bird.👍

Yes a budgie is a parakeet. Mine was also named Kiwi and looked identical. He died young maybe 2 yrs old of some reason I don't know, just got sick. Watching this video makes me miss him so much. He was the happiest sweetest budgie I ever had. He was super talkative, it was so cute, but I could never make out any actual words. It almost sounds fake, just because this voice is so different from all my budgies. All mine had a higher pitch sound. I'll keep watching just to reminisce on my beloved Kiwi bear.

Everytime I hear a parakeet talking it reminds me of this toy parrot thing my sister git fir Christmas years ago. It had one of those functions that would record what you said then play it back to you with a parrot filter on it. That's what they sound like to me. Even more so than a big parrot that's known for talking.
