Kizer Fluid V - The Best Flat Frame For Avoiding Wheel Bite?

I decided to give the Kizer Fluid V another try. I enjoyed them when I skated The Mesmer John Bolino, then weirdly really didn't get along with them when I tried the Blank Sean Keane, so I decided to give it the old third time is a charm and see how it works with the USD Sway Chris Farmer. Is this a better flat frame than my beloved Entente Diridari? Is this frame now slightly overlooked because it comes stock on USD Sway and Mesmer Throne skates? Does it offer good wheel protection on grinds? These questions and more answered.

If you use the handle of a hammer put inbetween the frame and twist it long ways it holds it open to get middle wheels in and you can let hammer go so have both hands to use 🤙🏼 nice review ❤

By far my favoeite frame ever. Bonus - you can access the frame bolts without taking the wheels out (at least with 58mm wheels, not sure about 59 or 60). I've ridden them on SL's, 909's, 5th Elements, and now Blanks.

I just put these frames on and then I found your video! I’m relieved to hear they performed so well. I’m trying flat for the first time in a while because I really like anti rocker but I miss the smoothness of Flat and I’m riding bowls and hips more. I didn’t have any trouble at all putting wheels into my frames, they slid perfectly in place. I think maybe my frames are warped (in a helpful way)because they were just laying about in my shed for the longest time

great review. Love these frames - they even feel faster than other frames on the roll, I think it's because they're so tight on the wheels. And yes, the groove looks weird, but it works so well, especially when worn in. Really want to try the Superfluid version.

I had a pair from my Sways that i replaced with oysi, then i got some Bolino v1 boots on a deal from Oak City, so i just slapped the Kizers on to make them essentially stock Mesmers. I really am surprised how well the block works on them. I can backside the rounded quarter pipe with no coping at Durham park a long way without bite, and that thing is round and wide. Crazy good stock frame.

I’ve used the Mesmer Fluid V for around one year and these are my thoughts: Cons: Putting the middle wheels might be a nightmare as the walls are tight and the space is narrow. You’ll need tools to open that gap as you showed in the video. With other models like the Them frame, changing wheels is super easy. Even if you tight the wheel bolts, I have the impression they are too long and keep spinning and you’ll need two allen keys. Because the previous point, they might create a click sound that makes the frame feel like it’s made of cheap plastic. PROS: Price point is super good, the frames offer good wheel-bite protection (but this also depends on your wheels profile, size, and hardness), and they last long. I would like to try the super fluids material, definitely, they should be a good frame. Nice review and video! Cheers
@wheelsceneblading

I never experienced the clicking with the Mesmer Fluid or this one, but I have had that with the Them frame and the Symmetrics. I did notice when I skated them this week I had to tighten a few bolts - i hope that’s not a regular issue.

So if you take the right width screwdriver handle, you can open the frame up using the handle side. I'd use something that has a triangular handle or similar shape so you can twist it enough to open up the frame and not need a second person or pliers to open them up.

The best flat frame would be for me a Oysi frame with flat sidewalls like the Kizer fluid frames because it slides much better for topsides and soultricks on rough ledges than frames with cut-outs in the sidewalls. PS: The Kizer Fluid V are in my eyes also good flat frames, but for some tricks on obstacles which have a little bit wider angle than 90 degrees I have not made good experiences. And they are also slower than the Oysi frames. Therefore a combination of these two would for me be the best flat frame.

TIP for putting the wheels in. Take a Leatherman multitool without opening it, put the tool in a frame and then twist sideways. so the tool spreads the framewalls and locks in place. This way you have free hands and the wheels just drop inside.

my first skates are a Sway 60 and i really didnt have that much trouble with the wheels (ive rotated them a few times to reduce wearing.) i found that if you do the insides first, by just applying a little outwards pressure to the side ends with your fingers they go in okay. however if you put the outer wheels in first you will then find the inner ones almost impossible to fit.

My only beef with how they come stock is how they put a size small frame on a 41-42 shell. Feels very small on that boot, so I always remove it or just get boot only and put a 270 length frame on.
@cfronin
@cfronin Жыл бұрын
They do indeed slide very well, they are not my favorite flat frame though. I ride them flat 60 on m12, any soul space if enough for me, I don't care about that BUT, you can't carve in ramps and bowls without the frame walls touching and slipping away. I guess its okay for grinder bladers. My favorite setup is the Mega flat 64 so with the Fluid V I feel very slow and very low on the ground. A tall frame is harder to skate but its better for style, with the Fluid V I feel like skating a cheat setup like anti with a super huge soulplate so you don't have to bend your knees. I really need to force the tricks to look good with that frame.
@wheelsceneblading
@wheelsceneblading Жыл бұрын
That’s interesting you should say that because I had the slipping out issue on the Mega! I skated a bank spot in them and they kept wiping me out.
@HenrisKas
@HenrisKas 10 ай бұрын
I got these with Sways and the first frames was a bit "warped" and the middle wheels was not touching the ground - like antirocker but it was very little, like 0.5mm. That with square wheel profile makes it train-tracky. I got replacement and took round profiles 61mm wheels and mounted them on CJ2. I can't tell how good or bad they are as this is my "first" aggressive skates, but I have a lot of urban skating / bombing / ice-hockey hours and so on. And my goal is to have one skates with multiple sets of frames - big wheels and small wheels. So my observations - I still can't find a frame to replace fluid V. Maybe 50/50 with metal cores would be an upgrade but then I get tempted with IQON UFS frames with all the possible setups..
@wheelsceneblading
@wheelsceneblading 10 ай бұрын
Even with a warped frame, it should level out with skating and reach a point where all eight wheels are touching the ground. I am not a fan of square profile wheels at all, I prefer round or semi bullet profile (tapered with a slight flat area on the top)
@HenrisKas
@HenrisKas 10 ай бұрын
@@wheelsceneblading sure it will wear in, but then rotating wheels will be a puzzle, btw wooden skateparks are awesome for wheels lifespan. Anyway, I had nothing to lose and contacted the shop. They sent me a replacement so I added extra round profiles wheels. Second year, still rolling. BTW Just ordered Decode 90 with grindblocks (90,72,72,90) - High hopes, lol.

I've been skating these frames for a while with the Sway (came in stock). They ride surprisingly well! But from day one I noticed one thing that you mentioned at the beginning - it felt like you're riding on train tracks. I checked it later, and I don't know if it was just my frames but with a fresh out of the box flat setup the middle wheels were not touching the ground! It evens out after a few sessions but it seems like the middle bolts are not in line with the outer ones giving it a slight rocker. Really annoying since it happens every time I rotate my wheels or change to a new set. And now my question is - is this my frame only or was this an intentional design feature?
